Summary
The Alubarna palace is collapsing around the chase. Vivi (carried/running with Karoo and the wrapped, bandaged Igaram-decoy-courier group) races toward the city square to stop the rigged explosion, leaving a note for the others and telling Usopp she’s going on ahead. Underground, in a crumbling pillared mausoleum, Luffy faces Crocodile for the third time. Bleeding and exhausted, Luffy can no longer rely on borrowed water — so he opens his own wounds and coats his fist in blood, taunting Crocodile: “Blood can make sand harden too, right?” Crocodile, intrigued and contemptuous, agrees to settle it once and for all and reveals his trump card: he pops the cap off his gold hook to expose a poison-tipped hook beneath (“It came off…” / “A poisonous hook.”), declaring that as a pirate there are no rules in combat and “when pirates fight, it’s to the death.” The square above is wired to explode the instant it’s triggered; both combatants charge — “Let’s settle this once and for all!! This is the end.” (DA-DOOON!!). Meanwhile, above ground, Nami and Zoro have entered the city — Zoro, lost and arguing with helpful citizens about which way to go, is finally redirected by Vivi/Karoo: “You’ve got to stop the explosion in the square! Now MOVE!!” — “We’re here to help you!!”
New reveals
- Blood substitutes for water against the sand-body. Luffy weaponizes his own blood — “Blood can make sand harden too, right?” (p. 15) — solving the Ch. 0199 limitation that a wet fist runs dry. He now has an effectively unlimited “water” source: himself.
- Crocodile’s gold hook conceals a poison-tipped hook. Crocodile flips the cap off (“It came off…” p. 16); a thinner barbed hook is revealed (“A poisonous hook.” p. 16). First on-page reveal that the prosthesis is a concealed venom weapon — escalates the duel from skill-mismatch to lethal-poison stakes.
- The third Luffy-vs-Crocodile bout is staged in the underground royal mausoleum. Crocodile enumerates the three venues (p. 15): “First, in the desert outside Rainbase… then in the royal palace… and now in this underground mausoleum…” — formalizing the Luffy-Crocodile combat trilogy’s geography.
- “No rules in combat — pirates fight to the death” doctrine (p. 17): Crocodile articulates the pirate-duel ethos to justify the poison hook; Luffy accepts (“I get it.”).
- The square-bomb is a live overhead threat to the duel. Crocodile: “When the square above us explodes, this place will be buried instantly.” (p. 17) — the bomb-timer Vivi is racing to defuse is the literal ceiling of the duel chamber.

Open questions raised
- Whether Crocodile lands the poison hook on Luffy in the duel (poison-as-deferred-kill-mechanism — forward-canon to the arc finale).
- Whether the square-bomb is defused before it detonates and buries the mausoleum (Vivi/Zoro/Nami race — forward-canon).
- The exact mechanism by which blood (vs. clean water) hardens the sand identically — treated as self-evident on-page (“blood is a liquid”), not elaborated.
