Profile

The “Demon Child” — identified in Oden’s backstory as the most dangerous of the wicked men of lawless Kuri. The young Oden fought and defeated him, after which he came under Oden’s command and joined the Akazaya Nine. In the present day he is also the thief Shutenmaru, boss of the Atamayama Thieves Brigade active in Kuri — first named Ch. 916. First shown on-page Ch. 924 (the cloaked relief-bringer secretly feeding Okobore Town; face partly hidden).

Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 1008)

• The chapter title names him “Leader of the Atamayama Thieves Brigade, Ashura Doji.”
• First to reject the “returned Oden”: insists on Toki’s law (“Mankind cannot return to the past”) and strikes the impostor, proving it sheds no blood — exposing it as a Kanjuro painting (pp. 4–6).
• When Jack crashes in, Ashura (already badly wounded) volunteers to keep him occupied — “I don’t choose this fight to settle the scores of the past” — and orders the rest to “Go and protect Lord Momonosuke” (p. 12).

Wano Country (Ch. 951)

• Reveals he spent his “20 years asleep” productively: collected ships from every port Kaido destroyed, hauled to the ruined south-west port of Kuri to ferry thousands of raiders to Onigashima — “You think I spent the last 20 years asleep?” (p.12–13). Earns Kin’emon’s praise.

Wano Country — Kuri (Ch. 950)

• Leads the Atamayama bandits/loyalists toward the Fire Festival raid as the scabbard “Shutenmaru”; addressed on-page as “Ashura,” confirming the bandit chief is the Akazaya scabbard (p. 13). See Atamayama Thieves Brigade, Akazaya Nine.

Wano — Kuri (Ch. 945)

Wano Country — Atamayama / Kuri (Ch. 941)

• As Shutenmaru, his Atamayama hideout in Kuri is set ablaze by Holdem’s faction to provoke the Atamayama Thieves Brigade; he storms off to “go flatten that cretin” at Bakura Town, drawing Kaido’s army (pp. 8-9). Kin’emon and Inuarashi race to recruit him.

Wano, Act Two — Atamayama (Ch. 925) — first clear, unconcealed appearance; named “Ashura”

• Shown in full at Atamayama (Head Mountain), Kuri — the Thieves Brigade base — where he is addressed as “Ashura” (pp. 13-15). Duels Inuarashi (Dogstorm) to a draw; Kin’emon halts the fight.
• Revealed as a former samurai who “didn’t swear fealty to the entire Kozuki clan” but served one man — Kozuki Oden (p. 15). Resents the scabbards: “Y’all abandoned the country for 20 long years!!! And that absence won’t ever vanish…” (p. 16) — names the chapter title.

Wano Country (Ch. 924) — FIRST SHOWN on-page: the cloaked relief-bringer to Okobore

• First on-page appearance (face partly hidden). A large, cloaked man — named on-page “Ashura Doji” (p. 8) — is revealed to have been secretly delivering relief food to the starving people of Okobore Town. He watches over Otsuru from hiding, “still beautiful, 20 years later,” but resolves they “cannot yet be reunited… until Lord Oden’s wishes have been accomplished at last!!” (pp. 7-8), and apologizes that he cannot yet face “Luffytaro.” Otsuru frets the relief food went to waste in the attack and calls the benefactor “a kind-hearted fellow.”

Wano Country (Ch. 923) — heard on-page as Shutenmaru; orders a retreat

• On the scene as Kaido descends on Kuri: as the oni-masked thief boss Shutenmaru he orders his Atamayama bandits back to the mountain — “I got a bad feelin’ about this!” — and a follower answers, “What, Shutenmaru?!” (p. 4). Named/heard on-page; his design/identity are not clearly revealed this chapter.

Wano Country (Ch. 922) — shown masked as Shutenmaru; confronted by Kaido

• As the oni-masked thief Shutenmaru, he leads the Atamayama Thieves Brigade in the forests of Kuri when a drunken Kaido in dragon form descends on them. Kaido — ”…I remember you… but the past is the past!! If you agree to work for me…” — hints at an unexplained shared past and offers him a place in his crew (pp. 7-8).
• Recognizes the dragon as Kaido and refuses to be cowed (“Are you drunk?! … Kaido?!”); a follower asks whether to strike for an opening (p. 9).

Wano Country (Ch. 921) — shown masked as Shutenmaru; named again as Ashura Doji

• First shown (masked). As the thief Shutenmaru — oni-masked, horned, riding a giant boar — he leads the Atamayama Thieves Brigade in robbing Okobore Town, taking even the fruit, sake and rice Luffy (“Luffytaro”) had given the starving townsfolk (pp. 10–12). Laments “Wano is finished… there ain’t no real men left in this land,” and that without a general the nine samurai cannot fulfill Oden’s wish.

• Etymology done : BOTH names recorded — 酒天丸 (Shutenmaru) ← Shuten-dōji (酒天童子), and the primary アシュラ童子 (Ashura Dōji) = Asura (阿修羅, the war-titan demigods) + 童子 dōji oni-suffix, VIZ “Demon Child” (Oda’s coinage on the Mt.
