Chapter 922: Supreme Commander Kaido of the Animal Kingdom Pirates

Summary

A vast dragon descends on Kuri and Kin’emon confirms it is Kaido, who can transform into a dragon — his first full on-page appearance. Law recaps for the allies why Kaido has come (the Straw-Hat/Law alliance smashed Kaido’s SMILE-weapon factories on Punk Hazard and Dressrosa and jailed his partner Doflamingo) and orders everyone to stay hidden while he handles the fallout, but a furious Luffy bolts to lure Kaido away from Okobore Town. The drunken dragon descends on the forests of Kuri, confronts the thief Shutenmaru with an offer to join him, and is nearly provoked into leveling all of Kuri — until Hawkins redirects him with a deliberate lie (“it’s merely a lie to contain his rampage”) — claiming Luffy and Law are hiding in the empty ruins of Oden Castle (folding in the legend of an “eerie light” near its peak that gnaws at Orochi). Kaido flies off and obliterates the castle ruins with a Blast Breath, still drunk and still in dragon form (he never reverts to human this chapter) — at which moment Luffy reaches him and lands a Gum-Gum Elephant Gun square on Kaido’s head.
