Summary

Pages 1–2 carry the One Piece 29th-anniversary color centerspread — the Straw Hats swimming through a sunken city led by a crowned frog-turtle (VIZ splits the spread across two pages). The chapter proper opens on p3 with an unmarked, undated flashback (no caption, no date): Imu takes a voice transmission — only radiating balloons and static, “ZZSHK…!!”; no Den Den Mushi is drawn — from a caller who declares “I’M… / …JOY-BOY!!!”; Imu answers “INDEED… / JOYBOY IS LONG DEAD…” and, asked “WHO ARE YOU?”, names itself aloud: “I AM… IMU!!”. In the present (p4) Luffy — in his white, cloud-curl form — duels Imu’s black-flamed, horned descended combat form over the forest of Elbaf; the hinge is Imu’s “SO WHY DOST THOU REMIND MU… / …OF THAT TIME?!!”, answered with “HOW SHOULD I KNOW?!”. Luffy pummels the homing black-flame bombs with “GUM-GUM… / …JET GATLING!” (p9), then takes a huge new form — “GUM-GUM… / …GENIE!!!” (pp9–10) — laughing “HO HO HO HO HO!!”, calling “OH, YEAH, I SAW YOUR FIGHT WITH LOKI!!” and vowing “AND I WON’T LET HIS DEATH… / …BE IN VAIN!!” — a gag that pays off on p11, where Loki turns out to be alive (“I’M STILL ALIVE, YOU MORON!!”). p11 also carries “MOVE, RAGNIR!!” (Ragnir), Ratatoskr’s “KURI RI RI RI!!” beside the downed prince, and an uncaptioned “ARABESQUE BRICK FIST!!!” (the panel names no owner). On p12 Jimbei arrives — “LUFFY!! DO YOU WANT ME… / …TO MAKE SURE HE’S PROTECTED?!” — and Luffy hands him the downed Loki: “YEAH, PERFECT!! THANKS, JIMBEI! HE’S MY PAL!!” (Loki, immediately: “I AIN’T NOBODY’S PAL… / STUPID PIPSQUEAK!!”). Nami watches from the ground (“WAIT, THAT’S LUFFY?! HE’S FIGHTING THAT GUY FROM BEFORE!!”), and Brook places the sovereign only so far — “THERE IS NO GROUP MORE SHROUDED IN MYSTERY… / …THAN THE WORLD GOVERNMENT.” and “THE ONLY PEOPLE HIGHER THAN THE KNIGHTS OF GOD… / …ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE FIVE ELDERS, AS FAR AS I KNOW…” — while a second speaker only guesses “SO MAYBE HE’S THE KNIGHTS’ COMMANDER…? I BET THAT’S IT!!”. On p13 Imu asks “GUNKO… COULDST THOU NOT BREAK THAT ICE…?” as Brook, off in the ice-field, cries “AAAH… PRINCESS SHURI!!” — and Luffy lands “GUM-GUM… / …CAUGHT-YOU-SLIPPING BULLET!!” on Imu’s form. Imu answers with “STIGMA!” (p14), then draws a black-flame katana out of the Omen — “BLADE OF NOTHINGNESS— VOHU.” (p15), the chapter’s title blade — batters Luffy, and walks the withered forest with the WG cross on his cloak (p16; Luffy: “THE FOREST DRIED OUT!!”). In the final beat Imu recants the earlier recognition: “OF COURSE I KNOW… / …THAT THOU ART NOT JOYBOY!!” and “JOYBOY… / …WAS NOT THIS WEAK!!” (p17). To be continued!

• Flashback (unmarked, undated): a voice transmission reaches Imu — “I’M… / …JOY-BOY!!!” — and Imu answers “INDEED… / JOYBOY IS LONG DEAD…”: Imu treats Joyboy as a closed, dead chapter (contrast with Imu’s 1179/1181 personal torment). In the same exchange Imu names itself out loud — “WHO ART THOU?” / “I AM… IMU!!” / “MU…?” / “WHO ARE YOU?” / “OH… ME…?”. • Who phoned Imu claiming to be Joy Boy, and when? Is the caller the same “Joy Boy” Imu insists is dead?
• Is the black-flamed, horned sovereign fighting Luffy definitively Imu’s own descended form (WG cross on the cloak, p. 16), and does the withered forest confirm the “cannot withstand the outside” toll?
• Why does Imu reverse the 1187 “Joyboy” recognition — is “weakness” the real disqualifier, or a taunt?
• Who throws the uncaptioned “ARABESQUE BRICK FIST!!!” on p. 11, and who is the unidentified horned, bearded old giant seated beside Brook in the ice-field on p. 13? (Neither is captioned.)
• Brook calls the frozen Gunko “Princess Shuri” (p. 13) — does he actually know her as Shuri, and does that settle the Gunko↔Shuri question? (Imu addresses her only as “Gunko”.)
