Summary

A recap-framed chapter that opens with a color title spread of an exhausted Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji slumped on a town park bench (“Now, please relax.”). Most of the chapter is the crew reliving, in fragmentary flashback, the gauntlet of sea-terrors they barely survived earlier that day. The pieces: a giant turtle devoured a galleon whole — ship and all — with its air hoses still dangling from its mouth (pp. 4-6); Nami blames herself for sending the boys to the bottom of the Grand Line and dissolves into “I’m sorry!!” (pp. 6-7); a band of salvage-pirates, the Masira Pirates, frantically try to save their captain who is dragged under (“The boss is still alive!! …what the Masira Pirates are made of!!”) (p. 7); sudden midday darkness is read by the crew as a monster-omen (“when it suddenly gets dark in the day, monsters are coming”) (p. 9); Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji are spat out of the turtle’s mouth alive (pp. 10-11); and the giant salvage-gorilla Masira (“the Salvager”) rears up, furious that the Straw Hats encroached on his salvage territory and his treasure (“NOBODY STEALS MY TREASURE!!”) (pp. 12-13). The terror peaks as enormous winged silhouettes loom over the sea and the crew flees screaming “M-M-M-MONSTERS!!” (pp. 14-16). Back in the present (pp. 17-18), the Going Merry has reached a town; the crew tallies the day’s impossibilities — a weird monkey salvaging a wreck, the Log Pose needle pointing straight up to the sky, a falling galleon, the giant monsters, and the turtle that gobbled a ship — before Luffy and Sanji get into a kicking-match and are thrown out with a “GET LOST!!” (p. 19).
