Structural lore — islands that exist in the sky above the sea. Mysteries (unsolved questions) live in
Vault/Threads/; this is what the world IS.Note: This is the canonical concept note for Sky Islands. It absorbed the former
World-Building/Sky Islands.md(the Ch. 218 first-establishment note); that file is now a redirect stub. The mystery/quest “can a ship reach one” lives separately at Sky Island Existence.
What we know
First on-page establishment (Ch. 218)
- A Sky Island has a magnetic field strong enough to capture a sea-level Log Pose and redirect it vertically (pp. 18-19) — implying it is, navigationally, the “next island” on the route. See Grand Line Magnetic Fields, Log Pose.
- Ships and human remains (skeletons) are present up there and can fall back to the sea — first hint that vessels reach (or are lost from) sky islands.
- Ch. 228: Sky Islands are referenced in a 400+-year-old explorer’s log (Mont Blanc Noland’s). People of that era “didn’t doubt the existence of a sky island.”
- Ch. 228: A one-man sea-ski called a “Waver” runs on an engine whose power “is found only on Sky Islands.”
- Ch. 228: A living “sky fish” exists and was witnessed by Noland.
- Ch. 228: There are “many things with special properties” up there; “as a sailor I wish to someday visit this sea in the sky” (Noland’s log).
- Ch. 230: Physical corroboration of the City-of-Gold legend — gold ingots and a statue fragment salvaged from the seafloor off Jaya, plus a golden bell and bird/penguin in ancient Jaya’s iconography (pp. 2–5). Strengthens the “the gold/island rose to the sky” reading.
