What we know

• Ch. 105: The Grand Line’s islands are rich in minerals whose mineral-deposits generate abnormal magnetic fields strong enough to override normal compass behavior. “The region is filled with abnormal magnetic fields.” — Crocus, page 5.
• Ch. 105: Normal navigation is impossible on the Grand Line; the Log Pose is the necessary special-instrument.
• Ch. 105: Each Grand Line island generates a distinct magnetic field; the Log Pose records the field of the current island and points toward the next.

Implication

• The Grand Line’s geography is physically structured by the magnetic fields. The seven-routes-converge-on-Raftel structure (Seven Grand Line Routes) is mechanically enforced by the magnetic-field connectivity.
• The mineral-rich cores of the islands are themselves a world-building feature — pre-loads later chapters where mineral-content of islands becomes relevant (Skypiea sky-stone, Wano kairoseki).

Open questions about this topic

• What is the physical mechanism by which mineral cores produce island-specific magnetic-fields?
• Does the magnetic-field-structure pre-date the Void Century, or was it engineered? (Speculative; cf. Void Century and Ancient Kingdom.)
