Profile

Second island of the Grand Line after Cactus Island. A prehistoric island frozen in the age of dinosaurs — Brachiosaurus-style sauropods, prehistoric raptor-birds, ammonites in the foliage, and giants (canonized via Louis Arnot’s exploration-book quote as Land of Giants). The Grand Line’s unstable climate (Usopp, Ch. 0115 p.18) is the in-universe mechanism that allows the island to remain temporally isolated — the age of dinosaurs never ended here.

Etymology

• VIZ: Little Garden
• JP: リトルガーデン (Ritoru Gāden) — phonetic English borrow.
• Little Garden — the ironic-diminutive naming pattern. The island appears in Miss All Sunday’s framing as nothing; the framing is inverted by the chapter-close visual (a tiger that should be the apex predator is shown squashed by a footprint). Oda’s island-of-nothing-becomes-island-of-everything inversion is the next-island-setup grammar.
• Authorial in-universe etymology (Ch. 115 p.19): the explorer Louis Arnot named the island Little Garden, Land of Giants — meaning to its inhabitants, the island truly is a little garden. The name is a perspective-shift install: same physical island, little from the giants’ frame and enormous from the humans’ frame. The construction is a colonial-era explorer-naming-convention pastiche — Arnot positions Little Garden as discovered, surveyed, and named despite being unsurvivable for him to live on.

• Ch. 126 — Instinct. The Wax-Wax House set-piece on Little Garden is resolved — Mr. 3 + Miss Goldenweek + Mr. 5 defeated by the Strawhats.
