Log Pose Needle Points To The Sky Sky-Island Setup

The seed

The crew states plainly (p. 17) that the Log Pose needle “was pointing up to the sky.” An instrument that physically cannot lie about its bearing is being made to point at an impossible destination — a textbook explicit-Chekhov seed for the Sky Island reveal. Reinforced by the same page’s “falling galleon” (a ship that came down). (Seed likely originates one to two chapters earlier; the on-page skyward needle is already logged in Log Pose from Ch. 0218–0219 — back-date seed_chapters when those reads are reconciled.)

The payoff

Why this matters

The Log Pose is established (Ch. 0105) as the one navigation instrument you must never doubt — “wherever that needle points, there will always be an island.” Oda weaponizes that exact trust-the-needle doctrine to make the impossible (a sky destination) feel inevitable: the prop’s reliability is the argument for the sky island. A clean example of an explicit prop-tell that converts an earlier-installed rule into a setup.
