Summary

The chapter opens on the aftermath of Bellamy’s bar brawl from last chapter: townsfolk gawk at the wrecked saloon, identifying the crater-site as “Roshio the Executioner’s grave” and marveling that even close witnesses can’t explain what happened — the work of Bellamy the Hyena, who “definitely possesses the power of some kind of Devil Fruit” (pp. 2-3). Bellamy stands revealed in full, arms crossed, having just heard that “Straw Hat Luffy” is worth thirty million (p. 3). Inside the bar, Luffy, Nami and Zoro sit at the counter; Bellamy makes a show of buying Luffy “the most expensive drink,” boasting “we’ve met a lot of big guys today” (p. 4). His crew, including Sarquiss, crowds the Straw Hats and provokes Zoro over his swords; Sarquiss kicks Zoro, who draws but is talked down by Nami (“we haven’t learned what we need to know yet!”) and by Luffy’s standing promise not to fight in town (pp. 5-9). Luffy asks the bar how to reach Sky Island — and the whole room erupts in laughter (pp. 10-14). Bellamy ridicules the “ancient legend” of an island in the sky, dismissing the Knock-Up Stream rumor as a lubbers’ fairy tale (p. 15). He escalates into his creed: “the age of pirate pipe dreams is over” — El Dorado, the Emerald City, the One Piece itself are fantasies, and “fools who are blinded by fantasy treasures can’t see the riches lying right at their feet” (pp. 15-17). When Luffy quietly answers, Bellamy attacks; Luffy and Zoro take the blows without retaliating, Luffy laid out flat with his straw hat knocked off, while the bar cheers Bellamy on and pelts the crew with grog (pp. 17-19). Sarquiss grins; Nami, desperate, breaks and shouts: “Luffy! Zolo! Forget your promise! Clobber that guy!! …Fight them!!” — and Luffy, bloodied, answers “Do not…” as the chapter cuts off (pp. 19-20).
