1. The Holy Land is a life-support anchor
Imu’s immortal body is sustained by Mary Geoise / the Empty Throne / the Mother Flame; leaving its range removes the anchor and the body starts to fail. Best fit for the 1182 “not meant to withstand the outside” line.
2. In-person body is fragile; Imu normally rides hosts
Imu reached Egghead/Elbaf earlier by possessing Gunko’s body (Ch. 1149); the amorphous “pop-out” (@1178) and the wounded true form (@1179) suggest the native body is rarely exposed and poorly suited to combat outside. Cross-link Imu Possessed Lily.
3. Immortality carries a running cost
If Imu’s deathlessness works like an Ope-Ope-style immortality operation or a covenant it must continually pay (Nature of Devil Fruits), sustained exertion away from its power source draws down a finite reserve — hence the bleeding.
4. The wounds are combat/Haki damage, not distance
Alternative: Loki’s flash-freeze and the giants’ resistance, plus a Conqueror’s-Haki burst from the castle (@1179), simply hurt Imu, and “away from Mary Geoise” is narrator flavor. Weaker — the coughing/bleeding precedes contact and the 1182 line frames it as intrinsic.
