- The claim
- Imu's Elbaf engagement ends in EXIT, not defeat, and the exposure clock — not any fighter — is what ends it. The escalating deterioration of the descended body (stated @1182, rendered as cracking @1191, escalated to blood @1192) reaches a threshold at which Imu leaves the field: it withdraws, is recalled to the Holy Land, or the form breaks and Imu abandons it. No one on Elbaf lands a killing blow, and the confrontation is scored on-page as a survived exposure rather than a won fight — which is exactly what Gaban's 'he's immortal, there's no way to win' is there to set up.
The claim
This note says nothing about what Imu is, its race or its origin, and takes no position on whether the descended body is Imu’s own or a vessel — the claim is about the body’s behaviour on the page, not its nature. Joy Boy / Nika / the One Piece are untouched.
Reasoning
left in the 0.5–0.7 band rather than rounded up: the mechanism half of this claim is well-evidenced, but the outcome half (that nobody lands the kill) is a real bet against a Final-Saga arc that has assembled Luffy, Loki, Gaban, Hajrudin and all of Elbaf against one target.
- chekhov-explicit — the limit was spoken aloud by the regime’s own side and then, over seven chapters, paid out on a monotone rising curve: Sommers states it (Ch. 1182 — “Great Imu’s body is not meant to withstand the outside!!”), the forest wilts (Ch. 1188), the form wheezes (Ch. 1189–Ch. 1190), the face and limbs crack (Ch. 1191 p.6, CRIK/CRAK), and the cough becomes a dark spray (Ch. 1192 p.15). A stated frailty that has been drawn seven times and never once reversed is a loaded gun with a scheduled discharge — and a discharge is an exit, not a corpse. Second explicit seed pointing the same way: Gaban’s “But he’s immortal. There’s no way to win…” (Ch. 1191 p.13). See Imu’s Body Cannot Withstand The Outside World, Gaban Declares Imu Immortal And Unwinnable.
- negative-space — the win condition is stated negatively and by the one man qualified to state it. Gaban’s blade demonstrably did negate a Holy Knight’s immortality (Gaban’s Blade Negates the Holy Knights’ Immortality) — and here he does not claim it works, he claims there is no way to win and orders the giants to evacuate Luffy instead. The corpus is telling us, through the character best placed to know, that damage is not the answer on this field. What is conspicuously absent from 1190–1192 is any beat suggesting a kill is available.
- prop-tell — the body itself is the tell, and it has been from the descent onward: Imu arrives at Aurust Castle already wounded, coughing and splattering dark blood (Ch. 1179 p.15 — see Imu Arrives Wounded Coughing And Bleeding Black), and Ch. 1192 p.3 has the true form winded and hacking before Luffy lands anything. That pre-fight cough is the single most load-bearing panel here: it separates exposure damage from battle damage and hands the arc a timer that runs independently of the fight.
Structural cross-check (context, not a counted technique): Imu has already demonstrated the exit this note predicts. It reached Elbaf the first time by riding Gunko (Ch. 1174 — “Great Imu is inside of her now!!”), popped out of that host when the covenant failed, and a black-spotted remnant slithered quietly away unnoticed while its opponents celebrated (Ch. 1178 pp.4–8, 14). The antagonist’s established behaviour when a body stops working is to leave it and go. That is a disengagement grammar, not a death grammar.
Supporting evidence
- Ch. 1149 — Imu’s proxy-operation pattern is installed: presence on a distant battlefield is not the same as the body being there.
- Ch. 1174 — “Great Imu is inside of her now!!” — Imu operates Gunko by proxy; the body on the field is disposable to it.
- Ch. 1178 — the precedent for the predicted exit: the entity pops out of its failed host, and a black-spotted remnant slithers away unnoticed rather than dying.
- Ch. 1179 — Imu descends in person and arrives already wounded, coughing and splattering dark blood in the Aurust Castle throne room (p.15).
- Ch. 1182 — Sommers states the mechanism out loud: “Great Imu’s body is not meant to withstand the outside!!”
- Ch. 1188 — the environmental toll: “The forest is wilting?!” (p.14) — the exposure is costing something continuously, not per-blow.
- Ch. 1191 — the limit becomes visible: fracture lines across Imu’s face and black limbs (CRIK/CRAK, p.6; HSSS~/CRIK CRIK + KOFF!, p.13). In the same chapter Gaban names the win condition negatively — “But he’s immortal. There’s no way to win…” (p.13) — and orders Luffy evacuated rather than reinforced.
- Ch. 1192 — three coughing beats on an escalating curve: winded and hacking before the fight resumes (p.3), again mid-fight (p.12), and a dark spray after Luffy’s first clean hit cracks the Tohu va-Vohu guard (p.15). Imu is still standing at chapter’s end.
What would refute this
- Imu is killed, destroyed or unmade on Elbaf. Any on-page death, dissolution or permanent unmaking of Imu within the Elbaf arc refutes this outright — even if the frailty is the proximate cause.
- A fighter, not the clock, ends it. Imu is beaten off the field by damage — a decisive blow from Luffy, Loki, Gaban or a combined attack that is framed on-page as winning, with the deterioration incidental or unmentioned in the beat that ends the engagement.
- The deterioration is re-attributed. The cracking/coughing is explicitly re-explained on-page as combat damage, a technique’s cost, or a temporary strain unrelated to being outside Mary Geoise — killing the mechanism half.
- Imu is repaired in place. The body is healed, reinforced or replaced on Elbaf and Imu continues at undiminished power with the deterioration reversed, never leaving under the clock.
- Imu simply stays. The Elbaf arc closes with Imu still deployed on the island, body intact, no withdrawal, recall, collapse or abandonment beat anywhere in the arc.
- Gaban’s line is falsified as characterization. “He’s immortal, there’s no way to win” is shown on-page to be Gaban’s error rather than the arc’s rule — e.g. an explicit reveal that Imu was killable there all along and the cast simply failed to try.

Scoring log
2026-09-08 — re-scored at frontier 1192 against the corrected VIZ record for 1188/1189 · STILL OPEN · confidence 0.6 → 0.62.
Filed one day ago, but filed against a fan-scanlation Ch. 1188 — which the note flagged itself. That chapter (and Ch. 1189) have since been re-read from official VIZ, so this is a first honest pricing of the corrected record. No refuter fired: Imu is not killed, not beaten off by damage, not repaired in place, not re-explained, has not simply stayed, and Gaban’s line is not falsified. The engagement is still live at 1192’s close.
Gain 1 — the provenance caveat can be retired, and the beat survives. The note’s recent-chapter warning singled out 1188 as provisional. Its cited beat holds in substance with corrected wording and page: not “The forest is wilting?!” (p.14) but “THE FOREST DRIED OUT!!” (p.16) — and VIZ places it on the same page-row that shows the WG cross on Imu’s cloak as Imu walks the withered forest. The Ch. 1188 note reads that panel explicitly against the standing countdown (Imu’s Body Cannot Withstand The Outside World). The environmental-toll leg is now VIZ-verified rather than provisional — a straight de-risking of a load-bearing citation.
Gain 2 — Ch. 1189 supplies unpriced support for exactly the half this note calls its
weakest. The note concedes that “the outcome half (that nobody lands the kill) is a real bet.” 1189
is not in this note’s evidence_chapters and was never scored here — and on the corrected pages it is
directly on point. VIZ p.10 has Shanks state that the King of the World has never been
reached by anyone: “The King’s power is impossible to measure! Go to the Holy Land and the mystery
will only deepen rather than come to light!! If it were that simple… …someone else would have done it
already!!!”, corroborated by Loki’s own failed hunt on p.11 — “I left
home and spent a few years abroad… In the end… …I never did find my way to him!!!” The
fan-scanlation had the exact inverse (“someone managed it once”), i.e. a precedent of success. The
corrected record instead gives the corpus a stated record of universal failure against this sovereign,
from two independent mouths, one of them a Yonko — which now stacks with Gaban’s “But he’s immortal.
There’s no way to win…” (Ch. 1191 p.13) into a consistent authorial framing that this
opponent is not beaten.
Held to +0.02 rather than more, because the 1189 lines are strictly about reaching the King (locating him, penetrating the Holy Land), not about surviving him in combat — and Loki himself notes the access problem is now moot (“So if that’s the King of the World right there… …I’ll never get a better chance!!!”). It is aura and prior, not mechanism.
The drag — Luffy has been connecting on Imu longer than the record showed. Correcting 1188 cuts
against the negative-space leg (“what is conspicuously absent from 1190–1192 is any beat suggesting a
kill is available”). VIZ 1188 p.13 shows “GUM-GUM… / …CAUGHT-YOU-SLIPPING BULLET!!” is
Luffy’s blow driven into Imu’s black-flame form — the fan-scanlation had filed it as one of Imu’s
weapons — and p.7 has Luffy taunt “I WAS ABLE TO HIT YOU BEFORE!!”. So fighters have been landing
named attacks on Imu since 1188, four chapters earlier than this note’s “first clean hit @1192 p.15”
framing implies. That does not refute anything — Imu absorbed all of it and is still standing, which is
the note’s whole point — but “damage is not the answer” is carrying slightly more rhetorical weight than
the corpus strictly supports, and the honest read is that the fight is hurting Imu, just not decisively.
One cite correction for the record. The chekhov-explicit bullet says “the form wheezes
(Ch. 1189–Ch. 1190)”. On the corrected pages 1189 contains no Imu deterioration
beat at all — the “HUFF…” on p.2 is Luffy’s, and 1189 is the chapter where Imu is most dominant
(pinning Luffy to a tree, taunting him about Ace and Sabo). Imu’s panting starts at
Ch. 1190 and runs through 1191–1192. The escalation curve therefore reads
1182 stated → 1188 forest → 1190 panting → 1191 cracking → 1192 blood, with a genuine flat spot at
1189. The trend holds and has never reversed, but it is not the strictly monotone chapter-by-chapter
climb the filing describes — logged so a future pass does not re-inherit the overstatement.
