Chapter 1181: God and Devil

Summary

High above burning Elbaf (“Elbaph” in this chapter’s VIZ lettering), Prince Loki confronts the Imu-possessed, black-winged, horned Holy-Knight vessel (Gunko’s commandeered body, per Ch. 1174). Over a flashback panel of King Harald (“…so you must kill me to take the throne, Loki!!! That makes me the worst king in the history of Elbaph…”, p. 2), Loki demands to know if this is the one who “manipulated and killed my father” — noting Harald died at 144 when giants naturally live to 300 (p. 2). The vessel answers only that “the one who suffered the greatest setback… was Mu” (p. 2). Loki attacks with the lightning-hammer Ragnir (“Ragna Izuchi!!”, p. 4); the vessel counters with jagged-grinned beasts of black flame (pp. 4–7), naming the power “Omen… my military might… a power that lurks within all things” (pp. 6–7), and grows to giant scale (“You can turn giant?!”, p. 7). She impales Loki with a named black greatsword — “Blade of Judgment — Nemesis” (p. 8) — then, hovering on black wings beneath an eye-studded halo, lectures that Corruption (“power so lusted after… too easily gained”), Covenants (“choosing servitude out of self-interest”) and Omen (“the envy that seeks to achieve one’s goals”) “form the trinity… of what we call DOMINATION!!!” (pp. 9–10). A now-gigantic Nemesis crashes down to pin Loki (p. 11); wheezing, he sneers that her “God’s Domination” is really “a contract with the devil,” and she replies: “God? Devil? What is the difference?” (p. 11). Declaring “No one lords it over me!!!” Loki seizes her out of the sky bare-handed through the black flames, bites her wing, and — “Then you don’t… respect me enough!!!” — slams her into the earth in a colossal impact (pp. 12, 14). She screams “ISN’T THAT RIGHT?!! JOY BOY!!” beneath the eye-halo (p. 13) while, elsewhere, Luffy gorges himself to recover, muttering through mouthfuls about a Haki he’s never felt before, “heavy and harsh” (p. 13). Loki rises as the black dragon Nidhoggr and unleashes “THORHEIM!!!” (pp. 14–15). In the smoke, the vessel — pointed ear, stitch-scarred cheek, ringed eye — smirks: “So, thou art back…” (p. 15). • The trinity of “Domination.” Imu’s doctrine, stated on-page: Corruption (power too easily gained by those who lust for it), Covenants (servitude chosen out of self-interest — cf. The Covenant, Depths Covenant), and Omen (the envy that seeks to achieve one’s goals) “form the trinity… of what we call Domination!!!” — and “Domination… is the only true bliss in the world!!” (pp. 9–10, 12).
• “Omen” named as a power. The black flames are “Omen… my military might… a power that lurks within all things” (pp. 6–7) — phrased like a universal power system (compare Haki’s “lurks in every living being” framing).
