- Every Strawhat crew member wears (or will wear) a head-prop / hat-prop that is **inherited from their dead-or-distant mentor** — extending the Shanks-to-Luffy straw-hat-stewardship grammar (Ch. 0001) into a roster-wide rule. Confirmed instances in the ch 1-150 corpus: Luffy (Shanks's straw hat), Zoro (Kuina's Wado Ichimonji as the head-prop-tier inherited blade), Chopper (Hiriluk's X-cross top-hat). Forecast instances: Robin (the Ohara archaeologist-hat / Saul-coded prop), Franky (Tom-coded shipwright-prop), Brook (Yorki-coded musician-prop), Jinbei (Fisher Tiger-coded prop). Each named-debut chapter visually pre-installs the prop; each mentor-death/separation chapter retroactively re-keys the prop as an inheritance-mark.

Reasoning
Three independent ch 1-150 instances already pay off the pattern, and Oda’s installation grammar is consistent across all three:
Instance 1 — Luffy / Shanks’s straw hat (Hat Handoff Promise)
- Ch. 0001 pp. 46-47: the handoff with binding return-promise.
- Ch. 0006: Straw Hat Luffy self-introduction — the prop becomes the name within 5 chapters.
- Ch. 0008-0018: hat-as-rage-trigger / hat-as-Shanks-recognizer / hat-as-sacred-object reinforcements.
- Ch. 0081, 0093: Luffy lends the hat as protection-token to Nami (re-deployed inheritance grammar).
- Ch. 1055: hat-vault scene reveals the original hat belonged to a Joy-Boy-tier figure — the inheritance is multi-generational.
Instance 2 — Zoro / Kuina’s Wado Ichimonji (Zoros Promise to Kuina)
- Ch. 0005: Zoro inherits Kuina’s blade after her death; the promise is the inheritance-binding clause.
- Ch. 0006: hara-kiri-pact attaches the inherited-blade to Zoro’s life.
- Ch. 0017: the in-mouth third sword in Onigiri is Wado Ichimonji — the inherited blade carries the named-technique.
- Ch. 0097: Wado Ichimonji canonically named on-page as an O Wazamono meito; the inherited prop is canonized as a world-tier artifact.
- Forward-pattern: every Zoro arc-finale (Mihawk Ch. 51-52, Thriller Bark, Wano Enma) re-tests the inherited-blade grammar.
Instance 3 — Chopper / Hiriluk’s X-cross top-hat (Hiriluk Hat With X-Cross Chopper Inheritance Visual Tell)
- Ch. 0134: Chopper’s debut — pink top-hat with white X-cross, named as Dr. Kureha’s beloved reindeer. Wardrobe-prop pre-installed without backstory.
- Ch. 0141: Hiriluk wears the same X-cross hat-design in black-top-hat form. Inheritance visually confirmed by panel-overlap with Chopper.
- Ch. 0145: the X is Hiriluk’s emblem on his chest, flag, and banner. Chopper’s hat = Hiriluk’s flag in costume form.
- The hat survives every Chopper transformation (Heavy-Point, Walk-Point, Brain-Point, etc.), making it the most-shown inheritance-prop in the series.
The grammar across all three instances:
- Inheritance is from a dead or absent mentor (Shanks departed; Kuina dead; Hiriluk dead).
- The prop is the visible carrier of the mentor’s identity — Luffy is Straw Hat Luffy; Zoro’s combat is Three-Sword-Style with Wado in mouth; Chopper’s hat is Hiriluk’s flag in costume form.
- The prop is pre-installed in the named-debut chapter before the inheritance is revealed.
- The prop becomes a load-bearing identity-marker — strangers can identify the bearer by the prop (Buggy Ch. 17 reads the straw hat as Shanks-property; Tashigi Ch. 100 recognizes Wado on Zoro’s hip; future-canon equivalents pending for Chopper).

- Franky — predicted: a shipwright-prop (sunglasses or speedo?) inherited from Tom (his shipwright mentor). Tom’s death-or-absence backstory should re-key the prop as inheritance.

- Ch. 5 — Zoro inherits Kuina’s Wado Ichimonji after her death, the promise binding the inheritance.
- Ch. 6 — the prop becomes the name within five chapters (“Straw Hat Luffy”), and the hara-kiri pact attaches Zoro’s inherited blade to his life.
- Ch. 97 — Wado Ichimonji is canonized on-page as an O Wazamono meito — the inherited prop as a world-tier artifact.
- Ch. 134 — Chopper’s debut with the pink X-cross top-hat, the wardrobe-prop pre-installed without backstory.
- Ch. 141 — Hiriluk wears the same X-cross hat-design, confirming the inheritance by panel-overlap with Chopper.

What would refute this
- A future Strawhat is introduced whose canonical wardrobe contains no mentor-inherited prop. Refutes the roster-wide claim.
- A canonical mentor-inherited prop turns out to be self-purchased / self-made, not inherited (e.g., Brook’s afro is his own hair, not Yorki’s prop). Weakens but does not refute the rule (props need to be from-mentor, not just symbolic-of-mentor).
- Oda explicitly breaks the pattern in a final-saga addition (a new Strawhat with no mentor whose prop has no inheritance grammar). Refutes the universal claim.
- The Ch. 1055 hat-vault reveal is retconned (the Joy-Boy-hat origin is severed from Luffy’s hat). Would weaken the multi-generational parent grammar that makes the pattern load-bearing.
Scoring note — 2026-07-25
This note is retro-filed at pass 150, so the mandatory sweep runs the whole corpus, not just chapters after the filing date. Two of the four forecast instances now carry on-page counter-evidence, both on this note’s own “weakens but does not refute” tier.
16–17), Zoro/Kuina’s Wado Ichimonji (Ch. 5, canonized O Wazamono Ch. 97), Chopper/Hiriluk’s X-cross top-hat (Ch. 134/Ch. 141/Ch. 145). Nothing at Ch. 1188/Ch. 1189 bears on the claim. But the honest reading is that the forecast half is now running behind: the rule looks like a strong recurring grammar rather than the roster-wide law the note asserts. Confidence 0.8 → 0.75.
