Chapter 940: Sparks of Rebellion

Summary

In the Flower Capital safehouse, Law storms off after doubting Shinobu’s loyalty, and the rest of the alliance frets that their raid plan has leaked. In Ebisu Town — the slum where capital exiles are dumped — the Straw Hats hear the tale of the scammer trio (Bingo/Bongo/Bungo) ruined for harassing the late oiran Komurasaki, then spend a whole conversation with the cheerful old beggar Tonoyasu without realizing he is the town’s beloved “saint,” father of Toko, who feeds the destitute with his daughter’s wages and knows the rebels’ plan (including the waning-crescent-moon ankle mark that identifies Kozuki comrades-in-waiting). At the Udon prison mines, Hyogoro teaches Luffy “Ryuo” — Wano’s word for Haki, “Flowing Cherry Blossom” — but Luffy fails over and over. Caribou and Raizo are revealed to be imprisoned there too; Caribou pledges himself as Luffy’s underling. Stunned that the Akazaya and Momonosuke survived Toki’s twenty-year time-leap, Hyogoro — once the greatest yakuza boss in all of Wano — reveals that Udon’s tens of thousands of prisoners include the yakuza bosses who once backed Wano, all of whom would gladly fight for Kozuki, and that Kawamatsu is held in a cell he means to free first. In the Udon wilderness, the amnesiac Big Mom’s group rides toward the camp with Okiku, hunting oshiruko.
