Chapter 822: Descending the Elephant

Summary

The Zou arc closes. Chopper finishes patching up the wounded Pekoms with a blend of Cherry Blossom (Drum/Sakura) Kingdom medicine and Birdie Kingdom herbology; the mink dukes and Momonosuke reflect on Zunisha, the living elephant that has carried their homeland for a thousand years, and Momonosuke resolves to remain on Zou to try to speak with it — wondering why his voice reached it and whether the Kozuki clan knows its secret. Luffy lays out a four-party plan: Team Luffy sails to Whole Cake Island to recover Sanji, Team Cat Viper (Nekomamushi) goes to search for Marco, Team Kin’emon heads for Wano, and Team Dogstorm (Inuarashi) stays to guard Zou. A crowd of minks vies to join the Sanji-retrieval mission, but Nekomamushi limits it to Pedro alongside Pekoms, fixing the team at six (Luffy, Nami, Chopper, Brook, Pedro, Pekoms). Pekoms, healed, names his Devil Fruit — the Turtle-Turtle Fruit, shell “hard as diamonds.” Usopp presents Nami her upgraded weapon, the Sorcerer’s Climate Baton. After farewells, Kanjuro draws the means for the “elephant descent” and the retrieval team is flung down off Zou toward the sea. A closing cut to Alabasta shows Vivi and King Cobra setting sail with Karoo — “it’s been so long since I was last at sea.”
