Why this matters
Ch. 142 is the first on-page utterance of both:
- World Council (the early-saga English-translation for the institution canonized forward as the Reverie / Levely / 世界会議 Sekai Kaigi).
- Mariejois (the World Government’s holy capital, forward-canon located atop the Red Line).
The Council’s institutional purpose — collective security against existential threats to the WG-order — is canonized on the same panels as the Dragon-revolutionary threat-assessment. Pre-loads:
- The Alabasta-saga Reverie chapters.
- The Lulusia-incident chapters.
- The Sabaody-and-post-time-skip WG-political-order arcs.
- The eventual Reverie arc proper.
The Mariejois first-naming also pre-loads the Celestial Dragons register — Holy Land is a religious-iconography label that later resolves as the WG’s living-god-Celestials’ city.
Etymology
- Mariejois: French Marie (Mary) + joie (joy) → Mary’s Joy. The Christian-Madonna register on the WG capital is high-signal — pre-loads (a) the religious-iconography of the WG itself, (b) the Lily/Imu/Madonna sub-pattern of forward-canon, (c) the Joy-Boy thread (Mary’s Joy / Joy Boy — the joy lexeme shared).
- Reverie: French rêverie — dream/musing. The Council is named after the act of day-dreaming.
