Imu Speaks To Joy Boy As A Returned Acquaintance
Status: confirmed · Technique: dialogue-from-dead-character, negative-space, parallel-arc-structure
The seed
The Imu-form’s refrain “Isn’t that right?” (pp. 3, 12) climaxes as “ISN’T THAT RIGHT?!! JOY BOY!! ”
(p. 13) — second-person, personal, mid-battle, beneath the eye-studded halo. p. 12 pairs the refrain with an inset
silhouette of a stitch-scarred face; p. 15’s closing close-up shows the Imu-form’s OWN cheek bearing matching stitch-scars
plus a pointed ear, and the line “So, thou art back… ” to an off-panel arrival. Builds on Imu’s pounding heart at the
name (Ch. 1122 ) and the destruction of Saturn over “Joyboy” (Ch. 1125 ). The addressee of “thou art back” is deliberately
withheld — negative space. recent-chapter; verified against 1178–1180 (the form is Imu’s own descended body per the @1179 page-anchor).

Why this matters
Three DISTINCT Imu↔Joy-Boy claims now live in the vault — do not fold them:
Physiological tell — Imus Heart Pounds At The Name Joy Boy (@1122 seed).
Heir-equation — Imu Slashes Teech And Luffy Posters As Davy Jones And Joyboy (@1179 poster note).
Personal acquaintance (this note) — the second-person address + “thou art back” greeting (@1181).
If confirmed, this is Oda using dialogue-from-a-primordial-survivor to establish that Imu and Joy Boy were contemporaries — the negative-space withholding of the addressee is the classic chapter-cliff device. See Joy Boy Identity , Imu Identity , Imu .
