- Name meaning
- *Higashi no Umi* (東の海 'eastern sea') with the furigana gloss イーストブルー (Ī sutoburū / English 'East Blue'). One of the four cardinal Blues of the One Piece cosmology, each named by compass direction: East, West, North, South. The English 'Blue' replaces a more usual *kai/umi* ('sea') in the romanized name, marking the four seas as a coordinated naming-set keyed to the *colour-of-the-sea* register (parallels the *Red Line* / *Grand Line* geographic axes). Within the East Blue specifically: *the weakest sea* by reputation (per Brandnew, Ch. 69), the starting-sea register, and Luffy's birthplace.

Notable for hybrid-fauna (Snake-Rabbit, Lion-Pig, etc.) and for its sole resident Gaimon, a pirate fused into a treasure chest for 20 years. Geography: dense forest, single tall cliff with five chests on top. Per Gaimon (p. 29), receives more visitors hunting exotic animals than treasure.

Baratie arc (Ch. 45)
Baratie is the arc’s central setting — an oceangoing pirate-clientele restaurant in East Blue waters operated by Zeff. The Baratie sets the neutral-zone-for-pirate-trade precedent in the series. Krieg Pirates is the arc’s antagonist faction; Ch. 45 sets up Krieg’s inbound arrival via Gin’s commitment to guide Krieg’s damaged flagship to the Baratie.
Pirate-armada-class threat first introduced to East Blue: Krieg commands 50 sub-crews / 5,000 combatants per Patty’s exposition (Ch. 45 pages 9-10). The armada-class villain tier is first instanced in East Blue here.
Loguetown / chapter-bridge (Ch. 96)
- East-Blue villain-bounty roster summarized at Marine HQ (page 6, Brandnew’s briefing): the average East-Blue bounty is 3 million berries — the chapter installs the regional bounty-baseline. The active East-Blue villain bounties (now all SMASHED) were Arlong 20M, Krieg 17M, Buggy 15M — each over 10M, above the regional average. Pre-loads the East-Blue-is-the-weakest-sea framing as a Marine-bounty-tier statement.
- East-Blue saga’s arc-locations are operationally closed. - First on-page mention of Vira (page 3) — Sanji reading the newspaper: ‘THERE WAS ANOTHER COUP D’ÉTAT IN VIRA. THE WORLD SURE IS IN TURMOIL.’ Vira is a minor East-Blue (or pre-Grand-Line) kingdom; first naming installs the coup d’état political-instability-as-recurring-news-genre.
Long Ring Long Land — Foxy’s origin (Ch. 313)
- Ch. 313 (p. 18) — Foxy “the Silver Fox” is stated to hail from the East Blue, leading a small pirate crew (the Foxy Pirates) undefeated across 920 consecutive Davy Back Fight matches. An East-Blue origin for the Davy Back Fight antagonist — adds to the roster of notable East-Blue-born pirates.
Arlong Park arc (Ch. 69)
- Ch. 69 — three great powers exposition: the Grand Line’s pirate’s graveyard reputation is here systematized into three great powers (the Seven Warlords of the Sea is one; the other two unnamed). The East Blue’s north-western sector (page 12 caption) contains Arlong Park (Arlong’s territory). Fish-Man Island is canonized as in the Grand Line. Arlong is named as a Jinbei-equal-warlord-tier fish-man pirate operating in East Blue without Warlord status — “He makes Don Krieg look like a pussycat” (page 8).
