- Name meaning
- *Sheruzu Taun* (シェルズタウン) = literal English 'Shells Town' — a small East Blue coastal port-town named for the **seashells** that pile on its beaches. Descriptive port-town place-name; the seashell motif is matched by Rika and Ririka's coastal-eatery and the harbor setting. May also be a soft-pun on *shells* as munitions (cannonball/artillery shells) — fitting the Marine-base presence — but the literal seashell reading is dominant.

Profile
A Marine-base town in the East Blue. Architecturally typical East Blue (cobblestone streets, low colorful houses, central plaza with a town fountain visible in the background), but dominated visually and politically by the Shells Town Marine Base. The town’s citizens are visibly terrified of the base’s commanding officer (Captain Morgan) and his son (Helmeppo) — a base that nominally protects them but in practice oppresses them.
Etymology
“Shells” — straightforward maritime imagery; possibly a reference to the shell-decorated entrance arch and the town’s coastal placement. Synthesizer / etymology agent: research whether the Japanese name has additional layers.
Key chapters
- Ch. 3 — first appearance; setting for the Helmeppo / Zoro / Luffy meeting.
- Ch. 4 — Captain Morgan’s full reveal; depicted as silent and terrified under his rule (tributes extracted, townsfolk refuse to associate with Luffy out of fear). Rika’s mother slams the door on Luffy and Koby.
- Ch. 5 — Zolo’s Kuina flashback; Straw Hat Pirates founded at the Marine courtyard’s cross. The single most narratively load-bearing event the town hosts.
- Ch. 6 — Execution-yard battle. Luffy unleashes Gum-Gum Whip on the Marine line; Zolo deflects swords in one move; Luffy + Zolo coordinate to defeat Captain Axe-Hand Morgan and liberate the town. The execution yard is also where Zolo declares his world’s-greatest-swordsman life-pact and Luffy first names himself “Straw Hat Luffy” on-page.
- Ch. 7 — Aftermath chapter. Town celebrates Morgan’s defeat (p. 2-3); Ririka’s tavern feeds Luffy, Zoro, Koby (p. 4); Luffy declares the Grand Line as destination (p. 5); the 153rd Branch lieutenant expels Luffy and Zoro from town (p. 8-9); Koby enlists with the Navy (p. 17); Luffy and Zoro depart the harbour with the entire Navy detachment saluting (p. 19-20).
