Summary

The chapter opens at Windmill Village (East Blue), where the mayor, Makino, and villagers worry over news that Garp has vanished at “Pirate Island.” Across the world a catastrophe unfolds: an earthquake “with no parallel in recorded history” — actually the lingering aftermath of Lulusia’s destruction — has raised the global sea level by roughly one meter, swallowing beaches and several islands across all four Blues, the Grand Line, and the New World. On Egghead, a nation-sized Marine fleet (100 ships, 20 battleships, 9 vice admirals, 30,000 sailors) led by Admiral Kizaru and overseen by Five Elder St. Jaygarcia Saturn has surrounded the island, which is sealed inside the Frontier Dome at 100% barrier strength. Saturn orders the research ships sunk to silence witnesses and dismisses the sighted “Kuma’s daughter” Bonney as harmless. The picture resolves when Egghead places a call to Mariejois: York, the traitor among the satellites, reveals to the Five Elders in the Hall of Power that the Mother Flame’s power plant is on Egghead and that she sent the weapon that destroyed Lulusia. She offers them the Mother Flame in exchange for being made a Celestial Dragon — and stages a fake “hostage” plea, screaming for the Marines to rescue her before “Straw Hat Luffy” kills her, so the fleet will storm the island. The Straw Hats realize they can flip the trap and use York as a shield to escape.
