Ch. 103 confirms his species — island whale, largest whale species in the world, endemic to the West Blue (p. 18). His presence at the East-Blue-side Grand Line entrance is therefore a mystery seed: he traveled with a pirate crew who came down Reverse Mountain decades ago, and he is still waiting for them.

• The Straw Hats encounter Laboon’s home pod of Island Whales in the New-World deep sea; their scarred snouts echo Laboon’s. Brook confirms to them that Laboon is alive and full-grown at the Grand Line’s eastern entrance (Twin Cape), unable to pass back under the Red Line because of his size. Thriller Bark (Ch. 489) — Brook records the Rumbar song to deliver to him; the promise renewed

• Brook seals his crew’s last song into a Tone Dial expressly so “this song needs to get to Laboon!!” and reaffirms the vow: “I WILL come to you, Laboon, I promise” / “Please wait for me… just a bit longer” (pp. 5-6, 10). A full-page splash re-stages Laboon roaring at the Twin Cape lighthouse (p. 11). The reunion itself stays far-forward. • The dying Rumbar Pirates’ final recording of “Bink’s Sake” on a Tone Dial is explicitly their message to Laboon — “the one that Laboon, the captain… all of us loved so much” (p. 9). • Farewell-at-the-cape shown in flashback (p. 18): ships sailing from the cape, “Laboon, we promise… we’ll return here!!” — staging the departure the Ch. 103-104 narration described.

Thriller Bark — Brook’s Rumbar flashback (Ch. 487) — Laboon’s adoption and the source of the Promise

• Appears as the baby island whale that latches onto the Rumbar Pirates (pp. 3-5): the crew feeds him, names him “Laboon” (“Since when does big boy have a name?” → “Laboon”), and defends him from a sea monster.

• Luffy paints the Straw Hat jolly roger onto Laboon’s forehead (page 2) as a binding contract: “That mark is our contract!” — Luffy promises to return one day for a rematch.
