Crocus narrates: “One day, when I was a lighthouse keeper… a friendly bunch of pirates came down Reverse Mountain, and behind their ship… came a little whale. It was Laboon.” The pirates are not named.

Ch. 104 hardens the seed with the temporal and geographic specifics. Sanji (page 5): “It’s been 50 years now. Those guys said they’d be back in a couple of years.” Crocus (page 8): “those pirates who left you in my care… have fled the Grand Line. But they’re never coming back.” Crocus (page 11): “His home is the West Blue, which lies on the other side of the Red Line.” — the crew’s origin is West Blue, narrowing the search-space for the future Brook-reveal. Ch. 459 — the “friendly crew” linked on-page to Brook’s dead crew
The “friendly bunch of pirates” who brought Laboon are linked on-page to Brook ’s now-dead crew, who left baby Laboon behind because “he was still a baby whale at the time, and we couldn’t take him with us on such a dangerous voyage” (p. 10). Brook names the awaited friend as Laboon Ch. 489 payoff below.

Why this matters
~386-chapter foreshadow span — among the longest-cycle seed-payoff structures in pre-time-skip One Piece. The seed is explicitly chekhovian (Crocus articulates “there’s a reason he keeps pounding against the Red Line” and then immediately tells you the friendly-pirates-backstory). Oda planted the answer at the same time as the question — the only mystery is which pirate crew it was.
