The seed
Why this matters
Massive long-arc seed. The scarring is the chapter’s most load-bearing visual-tell: it pre-loads (a) Crocus’s Ch. 103-104 waiting-promise exposition, (b) the eventual Brook / Rumbar-Pirates lineage (~Ch. 487 Thriller Bark), and (c) the Joy-Boy-style-waiting-promise structural register that runs through the entire series. The promise-from-an-absent-figure template (cf. Ch. 5 Kuina/Zoro, Ch. 1 Shanks/Luffy) here scales to island-whale dimensions.
Predictive test: any future Grand-Line creature with visible self-inflicted scarring should be read as carrying a waiting-for-someone sub-narrative.
