  • Franky identifies the war machine as 'just an ordinary human body, modified to carry weapons' — a cyborg like himself — but notes its skin still bleeds; a bomb fired into its mouth short-circuits and detonates it, exposing a destructible mouth-beam emitter (pp. 13-15).

Summary

Admiral Kizaru (Borsalino) continues his rampage across Sabaody, blasting buildings and unveiling his first named technique, the light-speed “Sacred Yata Mirror.” He corners Basil Hawkins, whose card / straw-voodoo-doll power redirects the killing blow onto his own crew so that Hawkins himself survives unscathed. A Transponder Snail call from Sentomaru (heard, not shown) informs Kizaru that the Marines have pinned the Sabaody incident on three rookies — Luffy, Captain Kid, and Trafalgar Law — and the Admiral sets to work. Cut to Grove 12, where the Straw Hats are pinned down by a “war machine” / “human weapon” built to look exactly like the Warlord Bartholomew Kuma. Franky recognizes it as a modified human body like his own cyborg frame; the crew throws everything they have at it — Robin, Chopper, Franky, Brook, Nami, Sanji (still hurt from Thriller Bark), Zoro’s Asura, and finally Luffy’s Gear Third Gum-Gum Giant Rifle — after discovering that a bomb down its throat short-circuits it and that its skin still bleeds.

New reveals

  • The “war machine.” The World Government has a completed cyborg human weapon modeled exactly on a Warlord of the Sea (Kuma), fighting the Straw Hats at Grove 12 (pp. 9-19). First on-page completed unit of the program catalogued at Pacifista (the name “Pacifista” itself is not spoken this chapter).
  • It is a modified human, not a true Logia/zoan. Franky: “He’s like me — just an ordinary human body, modified to carry weapons!” Its skin still bleeds, and a bomb in its mouth short-circuits/detonates it (pp. 13-15) — i.e. it has internal, destructible machinery and a mouth-beam emitter.
  • Kizaru’s “Sacred Yata Mirror” (Yata-no-Kagami) — first named technique; light-speed mobility/strike (pp. 3-5).
  • Hawkins’s survival power — a card draw + straw voodoo doll transfers fatal damage onto his crew; Hawkins is untouched (pp. 5-7).
  • Marine target list: the three culprits are Straw Hat Luffy, Captain Kid, and Trafalgar Law (p. 8).
  • Transponder-snail variants: a “miniature transponder snail” and a “black transponder snail” (wiretap model, arm-worn) (p. 8).

Open questions raised

  • What is the war machine, who built it, and how many exist? (Completed unit shown; mass-production only implied.)
  • Why is it modeled exactly on the Warlord Bartholomew Kuma — and what does that imply about Kuma?
  • Can the Straw Hats actually destroy it, or is this a delaying fight while Kizaru closes in?
