Structural lore — a human whose body has been augmented/rebuilt with machinery. First established on-page in the Water Seven arc via Franky.

What we know

• Ch. 336: A cyborg is a human with a machine body — chained metal fists, a machine torso, fire-breathing, and built-in weaponry — explicitly distinct from Devil-Fruit power. Franky reveals himself as the series’ first on-page cyborg (pp. 6–10): after the crowd assumes a Devil-Fruit user (who would drown), he jumps into the harbor, surfaces, and declares “I didn’t eat any Devil Fruit… I’m a cyborg!!”
• Ch. 336: Cyborg bodies can mount integrated weapons — Franky fires a built-in “Weapons Left!!” launcher (p. 16). The water-drowning misdirection (Devil-Fruit users sink) is the device the reveal pays off.
• Ch. 368: Franky’s cyborg body demonstrated in combat. Aboard the kidnap Sea Train, bullets fail to fell him because of “weapons and steel built into my body… I’m a cyborg” (pp. 16-17). New structural detail: only his front is cyborg, his back is unmodified — “I couldn’t reach my back” when he rebuilt himself — and he keeps a built-in fridge to keep his cola cold (p. 17). Establishes that cyborg bodies can house utility systems (refrigeration), not just weapons, and that a self-built cyborg is limited by the builder’s own reach. Pays off the @0336 cyborg reveal; cross-link Franky.
• Ch. 485: The cyborg motif extends to a government-built body. Kuma is revealed as a cyborg “even harder than iron” whose iaido strike cannot bite (“A CYBORG LIKE FRANKY?! No… he’s even harder than iron!!!”, p. 7) — but “nothing like your friend Franky”: a Pacifista, built by Dr. Vegapunk, fusing a cyborg body with a Devil-Fruit power (pp. 7-10). Fulfils this note’s flagged forward-canon (Vegapunk’s science / Kuma’s Pacifista). Distinguished from an ordinary (self-built) cyborg like Franky. Cross-link Pacifista.
• Ch. 358: The ORIGIN of Franky’s cyborg body is shown directly (flashback). After the Sea Train ran him down — the accident the World Government “reported” as Cutty Flam’s death — the gravely wounded Franky, fearing he would die from his own heat, washed up aboard an abandoned scrap-filled ship and “transformed [him]self using scrap metal” to survive (“It’s how I survived!!”, pp. 3, 6). Establishes Franky’s cyborg as a self-built / self-modified machine body (not a third party’s surgery), assembled from junk on Scrap Heap Island. Confirms the cyborg is front-only in this era (the back-mounted hatch / cola-fueled engine mechanics are elaborated later in his backstory and forward-canon) and re-frames the @0336 “I’m a cyborg!!” reveal as the result of this emergency self-rebuild. Pays off Franky Not A Devil Fruit User Cyborg Durability Tell (origin elaboration).

• Ch. 510: Franky classifies the World Government’s Kuma-replica “war machine” as a cyborg of the same kind as himself (“just an ordinary human body, modified to carry weapons”) whose skin still bleeds, distinguishing organic-but-modified bodies from Devil-Fruit users (pp. 13-14).
