Summary
In the ruins of Thriller Bark, the Warlord Bartholomew Kuma stands over the defeated Straw Hats and prepares to take Luffy’s head. Zoro charges and unleashes “Lion’s Song,” but his blade cannot bite — Kuma is harder than iron. After a blade-melting mouth-beam, Kuma reveals himself: a government “human weapon” called a Pacifista, built by the genius Dr. Vegapunk with a cyborg body fused to a Devil-Fruit power. Zoro offers his own life in exchange for sparing his captain and crew, declaring that ambition is worthless if he cannot even save Luffy. Sanji tries to substitute himself; Zoro knocks him unconscious and takes the deal alone. Kuma agrees, but extracts every ounce of Luffy’s accumulated pain and fatigue as a giant bubble and forces Zoro to absorb it. Zoro endures the agony in silence. Before leaving, Kuma murmurs that Luffy is Dragon’s son and that he has “exceptional friends,” then vanishes. The crew wakes inexplicably healed; they find Zoro standing blood-drenched amid the rubble, who tells them that “Nothing… at all” happened here.
