In Loki ’s boyhood flashback he idolizes a fearsome pirate, begs “Take me with you!! ,” is rejected as “a whelp,” and — with Newgate orders in that crew (“Shut up, Newgate !! You don’t have to use a blade on a kid”) — laments “I was born in the wrong era!!! ” Newgate as a subordinate dates the crew to the Rocks-era ; the idol’s identity is withheld. A tight parallel to Luffy ↔Shanks (the very Red-Hair Loki now says he can locate). GUARD the captain’s identity.
The payoff
Ch. 1155 pp. 14–16 — the idol is Rocks D. Xebec
The withheld idol is revealed as Rocks D. Xebec Ch. 1154 names the scarred pirate who storms the island hunting King Harald as young Rocks; Ch. 1155 shows him assembling the Rocks Pirates via the Davy Back Fight — with Edward Newgate Loki , and hearing Rocks vow to “take over the world,” “the next thing Loki knew, his outlook on life had been saved” (p. 16). Why this matters
A dialogue-from-dead-character seed fused with parallel-arc structure : a dead-legend name-drop (“Newgate”) reframes a giant prince’s tragic backstory as a hook into the God-Valley / Rocks generation, while mirroring Luffy’s own idol (Shanks) onto Loki.
