The question
What happened to Sabo at Marijoa, and is he alive?
The World Economic Journal reports (via Morgans, who cites a “fatality,” p. 6) a story tying Sabo to the events at Marijoa during/after the Reverie. The Revolutionary Army at Kamabakka HQ is thrown into chaos — they have lost contact with all of their people and resolve that “ascertaining the truth is our first step” (Koala, pp. 8-9). The shock ripples to Sabo’s brother King Stelly of Goa (“My brother?! He was in Marijoa?!”), to Dadan at Mt. Corvo, and to Makino’s village (pp. 9-10).
Leading theories
Theory A — Sabo survived
- Claim: The “fatality” cited in the report does not refer to Sabo himself; he is alive but cut off from the Army.
- Evidence leans on:
[[Chapters/0956]] - Confidence: low (no on-page confirmation either way)
Resolution
Resolved @ Ch. 1054 — Sabo survived Marijoa; he witnessed Imu murder King Cobra and escaped, and the World Government framed him for the killing.
- News breaking worldwide reported a fatality at Marijoa and the Revolutionary Army lost contact with all its people, leaving Sabo’s fate an open question (Ch. 956).
- The Reverie fallout confirms Sabo is alive — the Revolutionaries all escaped — now world-famous as the “Flame Emperor” and framed by the WG under the headline “SABO KILLS COBRA” (Ch. 1054).
- Sabo surfaces in person by Den Den Mushi from the Kamabakka Queendom, denies assassinating Cobra, and is confirmed alive again after the destruction of Lulucia (Ch. 1058, Ch. 1060, Ch. 1082); Luffy separately notes he met Sabo at Marijoa (Ch. 1062).
- The Reverie flashback shows what actually happened: Sabo watched Imu kill Cobra, intervened with a Fire Fist, was repelled, and escaped Mary Geoise carrying Cobra’s dying message to Luffy and Vivi — the reported “fatality” was Cobra, killed by Imu, not by Sabo (Ch. 1085).
