- **Cover-story Vol. 3 — Sanji's Cordial Welcome** (page 1, title-page splash). Sanji solo on a wooden boardwalk dock, sitting beside a bullfrog wearing a bandanna, holding a green apple in his left hand. Goggles round his neck, *DON PANT(A)* T-shirt (partial visible). Signpost behind reads *BAD COWBOY / JUSTICE*. The cover continues Sanji's solo-cover-story arc (Vol. 1 = Ch. 80 zebra-and-grapes; Vol. 2 = ?; Vol. 3 = this chapter). Pre-loads the *Sanji-as-pre-Baratie-wandering-cook* lore arc that the cover series will canonize.
- **Sanji intercepts Zoro to stop him from diving for Luffy** (pages 3, 89-90). Open-page intercept: *'STOP, ZOLO!! IF YOU GO INTO THE OCEAN LIKE THAT YOU'LL DIE!!'* — full-body composition with Sanji catching Zoro mid-stride toward the water. Zoro's wounds (the still-open Mihawk-chest-slash canonized in Ch. 84 by Nojiko) gate the *Zoro-cannot-dive* tactical premise. Zoro's reply: *'HAVE TO HURRY... LUFFY...'* / *'I CAN'T WAIT AROUND FOR YOU TO FIGHT!!'* Sanji: *'I'M STOPPING YOU BECAUSE I KNOW THAT ALL TOO WELL, CRAP-SWORDSMAN!! I KNOW THERE'S NO TIME.'* The chapter installs **the only-non-DF-Straw-Hat is the only one who can rescue Luffy** doctrine in active dialogue (the Ch. 84 implicit tactical-rule is here articulated as Sanji's combat-justification line).
- **Genzo dives into the pool to rescue Luffy** (pages 4-5). Despite Sanji's prior override, Genzo (with pinwheel-cap still on) plunges into the water (*SPLASH!!*) and swims down toward chained Luffy. Hatchan from above: *'YOU IDIOT! SO YOU CAN'T BLAME ME FOR DOING THIS, RIGHT!!?'* / *'INTERESTING!! HE WANTS TO FIGHT ME, A FISH-MAN, UNDERWATER!!?'* Sanji aside: *'THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THESE GUYS WANT!!! THAT RECKLESS IDIOT!!'* Hatchan/Arlong jeer: *'WHAT AN IN-CREDIBLE FOOL!!'* / *'BWAH HA HA HA HA HA! LEARN THIS LESSON WELL!!! YOU HUMANS ARE NO MATCH FOR US!!'* The chapter chains the Ch. 84 *Genzo-volunteers-to-dive* declaration into actual self-sacrificing action — the Bell-mère-grove-defender register now extends to *literal-suicide-mission-for-a-stranger*.
- **Genzo uses Luffy's rubber neck as a snorkel** (pages 5-6). Underwater, Genzo grabs Luffy's stretched neck (*'IS THAT LUFFY'S STRETCHED NECK!?'* / *'HURRY, BEFORE MY BREATH RUNS OUT...'*) and uses it as a literal breathing-tube to surface for air: *'... WITH THIS STRETCHY NECK OF YOURS, YOU COULD AT LEAST COUGH UP WATER AND BREATHE AND...'* (page 6). The chapter installs a **devil-fruit-as-survival-prop** combat-grammar — the rubber-body's utility to *other* characters (not just Luffy) is canonized. Genzo's tactical reasoning: *'I'M SORRY!! I DON'T HAVE THE STRENGTH TO BRING UP YOUR WHOLE BODY, BUT...'* / *'... AND LEAVE THE REST TO THE OLD MAN!'* / *'THEN I JUST HAVE TO SHATTER THE ROCK WITH A KICK...'* — Genzo's plan is to shatter Luffy's chain-rock and let Sanji finish the retrieval.
- **Kuroobi enters the water and forearm-sledges Genzo unconscious** (page 7). *FISH-MAN KARATE... FOREARM SLEDGE!!!* — full-page composition, Kuroobi diving down on Genzo from above. Genzo is knocked out (*BLOOP*); Sanji aside: *'I'VE BEEN SPOTTED BY A FISH-MAN!!'* / *'OH NO...'* / *GLUB GLUB*. The chapter installs **Kuroobi as the active Fish-Man Karate combat-master** (the Ch. 84 named-art delivered by Choo now has its named-master engaged on-page). Kuroobi's first on-page combat-feat: *Forearm Sledge*. Pre-loads the formal Sanji-vs-Kuroobi combat-pair lock.
- Kuroobi Ray Fish-Man Officer
- **Fish-Man Karate's underwater-power-multiplication doctrine** (page 9 — Kuroobi: *'HMPH. THAT WAS WEAK. DOWN HERE YOUR KICKS HAVE HALF THE FORCE THEY'D HAVE ON LAND. BUT WITH FISH-MAN KARATE, THERE'S NO LOSS OF POWER IN THE WATER. IN FACT, THE POWER OF SOME MOVES IS EVEN MULTIPLIED!!'*). First on-page canonization of the **water-power-asymmetry** mechanic — humans lose force underwater, fish-men gain it. The chapter installs **water-as-asymmetric-combat-arena** as the foundational fish-man-vs-human combat-grammar. Forward-resonance: every later underwater-fight in the series (Fish-Man Island arc Ch. 612+; Whole Cake / Wano coast fights) re-keys to this Ch. 86 install.
- **Kuroobi's underwater combat-vocabulary cascades**: *Forearm Sledge* (page 7), *Duelling Hair Tether* (page 8), *Bowel-Buster / Instant Undersea ...* (page 9, kick to Sanji's gut), *Flaming Axe Kick* (page 10, downward kick), *Back Foot Jawbreaker* (page 10 — *KRAK!!*), *Guffaw Palm Bomb* (page 11 — *THWOP / KROOOOO*), *Pulverizing Pressure Plunge* (page 14 — *SHWAP / SWOOO*, dragging Sanji to deep-ocean pressure-zone). The chapter installs **Fish-Man Karate as the named-attack-naming combat-discipline** of the Arlong-arc — every move is announced in caption-banner format the way Zoro's three-sword-style and Sanji's French-culinary attacks are. Pre-loads Jinbei's Marineford Fish-Man Karate (Ch. 549+) and the full Hody Jones articulation (Ch. 612+).
- **Sanji absorbs the full combat-cascade and is dragged to crushing depth** (pages 11-14). After the *Guffaw Palm Bomb* hits (page 11 — *THWOP* hammer-strike to the back of Sanji's head, with *KROOOO* explosion in the next panel), Sanji loses too much air (page 12 — *URGH!!! I LET OUT TOO MUCH AIR! I NEED AIR! AIR!!*). Kuroobi prevents him from surfacing (*WHERE ARE YOU GOING?*), then drags him downward (page 14, *Pulverizing Pressure Plunge*): *'IF YOU WERE TO DESCEND RAPIDLY TO THE BOTTOM OF YOUR OCEAN... YOUR GUTS WOULD BE SQUEEZED OUT OF YOUR BODY!!'* / *'YOU CAN'T EVEN ENDURE EXTREME CHANGES IN WATER PRESSURE!! YOU HUMANS TRULY ARE POWERLESS CREATURES.'* Sanji aside (page 14): *'THE OLD MAN WILL HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF LUFFY FOR NOW.'* / *'GOTTA CHANGE MY PLAN!!'* The chapter installs **pressure-differential-injury** as a fish-man-karate combat-tactic (humans crushed at depth).
- **Kuroobi monologues Arlong-Pirates' full follow-through plan** (page 13). Multi-panel doctrine: *'YOU WANT TO ESCAPE FROM ME, BUT YOU CAN'T.'* / *'THIS GAME ENDS IN ONLY ONE WAY... DEATH.'* / *'BUT LET ME EXPLAIN TO YOU THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR FOOLHARDY HEROISM!!!'* / *'THEN I'LL FINISH OFF THAT LONG-NOSED FOOL AND ZOLO, AND I'LL KILL ALL THE VILLAGERS FOR THEIR REBELLION!!'* / *'THE RUBBER MAN WILL DIE AT THE SAME TIME.'* / *'AND WHEN YOU'RE FINISHED, I'LL KILL THE VILLAGE HEADMAN.'* / *'AND AFTER ALL THIS, I CAN'T VERY WELL LET THAT TRAITOR NAMI GET AWAY, CAN I!?'* / *'IN THE END, YOUR HEROISM IS JUST SO MUCH HOT AIR.'* / *'IT CAN'T SAVE A SINGLE SOUL!!!'* The chapter completes the **Nami-as-traitor-to-be-killed** premise — Arlong's actual end-game-plan-for-Nami is voiced aloud by Kuroobi (the Ch. 80 *Arlong's promise was always a lie* prediction is here canonized through Kuroobi's monologue). Status of seven named-targets: Sanji, Usopp, Zoro, all villagers, Luffy, Genzo, Nami — all marked-for-death.
- **Sanji breaks the tether, surfaces, and shouts Kuroobi up** (pages 15-16). Sanji's pivot (page 14): *'HE THINKS I CAN'T SAVE ANYONE!?'* / *'I WON'T LET HIM GET AWAY WITH THIS!!!'* Surfaces (page 15 — *SPLASSH!! HAAAAH!!!*); Yosaku/Johnny/Nojiko/Genzo (partially-revived) react: *'SANJI!!'* / *'HALF!?'* / *'HALF OF HIM!?'* / *'HE IS?'* (Sanji has retrieved Genzo's upper-body, leaving the rock+chain+Luffy still pending). Sanji to the pool: *'COME ON OUT HERE, YOU LOUSY FISH!!! I'M GOING TO FINISH YOU!!!'* Sanji's combat-tactic: **drag Kuroobi onto land where the water-power-asymmetry inverts** — the Ch. 86 Fish-Man Karate water-multiplier doctrine is being deliberately neutralized by the *combat-arena-relocation* counter.
- **Kuroobi's *Hundred-Brick Fist* and *Thousand-Brick Fist* on-land combat-doctrine** (pages 16, 18). Page 16: Kuroobi emerges onto the pavement (*SPLASHHH...!!*). Captions: *'KOFF!! YOU STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND.'* / *'I'M MANY TIMES STRONGER THAN YOU ARE. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF WE'RE IN WATER OR OUT OF IT.'* / *'AND NOW YOU'VE MADE ME MAD.'* / *'I SENT YOU FLYING BEFORE WITH THE HUNDRED-BRICK FIST.'* / *'BUT MY GREATEST MOVE IS THE THOUSAND-BRICK FIST. THE LIKELIHOOD OF YOUR SURVIVAL IS...ZERO!!!'* / *'I'LL DESTROY YOU WITH THE ULTIMATE MOVE OF FISH-MAN KARATE.'* Page 18: *'THE ULTIMATE PUNCH, THE THOUSAND-BRICK--'* (*WOOSH!!!*). The Fish-Man Karate **tiered-named-attack hierarchy** is canonized (Hundred-Brick → Thousand-Brick). Combat-rhetoric: *'HUMAN!!'* species-slur in active duel-register.

Summary
Cover-story Vol. 3 of Sanji’s solo cover arc opens the chapter: Sanji sitting on a wooden dock-pier beside a bandanna-wearing bullfrog, holding a green apple, DON PANT(A) T-shirt, signpost reading BAD COWBOY / JUSTICE behind him. The solo-cover-story continues from Ch. 80’s zebra-grapes splash.
Back in the Arlong Park courtyard, the Ch. 85 cliffhanger continues. Sanji catches Zoro mid-stride — “STOP, ZOLO!! IF YOU GO INTO THE OCEAN LIKE THAT YOU’LL DIE!!” — and articulates the Ch. 84 implicit tactical-rule out loud: the only Straw Hat without a devil fruit (Sanji) is the only one who can dive for chained Luffy. Zoro: “HAVE TO HURRY… LUFFY…”; Sanji: “I KNOW THERE’S NO TIME.”
Genzo overrides everyone by diving solo (SPLASH!!, page 4) for Luffy. Hatchan jeers (“INTERESTING!! HE WANTS TO FIGHT ME, A FISH-MAN, UNDERWATER!!?”) and Arlong from the deck (“BWAH HA HA HA HA HA! LEARN THIS LESSON WELL!!! YOU HUMANS ARE NO MATCH FOR US!!”). Underwater, Genzo finds Luffy’s chain-rock and improvises: he grabs Luffy’s rubber-stretched neck as a breathing-tube, surfaces via the neck (pages 5-6), tells Luffy his plan (”…WITH THIS STRETCHY NECK OF YOURS, YOU COULD AT LEAST COUGH UP WATER AND BREATHE…”) and prepares to kick-shatter the rock so Sanji can complete the rescue (“AND LEAVE THE REST TO THE OLD MAN!”).
Kuroobi intervenes — FISH-MAN KARATE… FOREARM SLEDGE!!! (page 7) on Genzo’s back, knocking him out (BLOOP). Sanji, spotted by Kuroobi, dives in (“NOT IF I CAN HELP IT!!”) — the Sanji-vs-Kuroobi combat-pair locks underwater (per the Ch. 75 Kuroobi Ray Fish-Man Officer forward-prediction). Kuroobi: “YOU WANT TO FIGHT ME UNDERWATER!?” / “IT’LL BE ALL YOU CAN DO JUST TO HOLD YOUR BREATH, HUMAN!!” and grabs Sanji’s hair (Duelling Hair Tether, page 8) to anchor him.
The chapter then canonizes the water-asymmetric-combat-arena doctrine (page 9): “DOWN HERE YOUR KICKS HAVE HALF THE FORCE THEY’D HAVE ON LAND. BUT WITH FISH-MAN KARATE, THERE’S NO LOSS OF POWER IN THE WATER. IN FACT, THE POWER OF SOME MOVES IS EVEN MULTIPLIED!!” Kuroobi cascades through Bowel-Buster / Instant Undersea … (page 9), Flaming Axe Kick (page 10), Back Foot Jawbreaker (page 10), and the head-strike Guffaw Palm Bomb (page 11, THWOP / KROOOOO). Sanji is air-drained (page 12 — I LET OUT TOO MUCH AIR!) and dragged into a pressure-differential-deep-plunge (Pulverizing Pressure Plunge, page 14).
Kuroobi monologues Arlong’s full end-game-plan (page 13): kill Sanji, then Usopp+Zoro, then the villagers, Luffy dies simultaneously, then Genzo, then Nami last. The Nami-as-marked-traitor premise is canonized aloud (“AND AFTER ALL THIS, I CAN’T VERY WELL LET THAT TRAITOR NAMI GET AWAY, CAN I!?”). The chapter’s titular Heroism vs. Fish-Man Cruelty register lands: “IN THE END, YOUR HEROISM IS JUST SO MUCH HOT AIR. IT CAN’T SAVE A SINGLE SOUL!!!”
Sanji breaks the tether, surfaces with Genzo’s upper-body in tow (HAAAAH!!!, page 15), and calls Kuroobi onto land — “COME ON OUT HERE, YOU LOUSY FISH!!! I’M GOING TO FINISH YOU!!!” The tactical-pivot: invert the water-asymmetric doctrine by relocating the fight to the pavement. Kuroobi emerges (SPLASHHH…!!, page 16): “I’M MANY TIMES STRONGER THAN YOU ARE. IT DOESN’T MATTER IF WE’RE IN WATER OR OUT OF IT. AND NOW YOU’VE MADE ME MAD.” Kuroobi names his tiered ultimate-moves: Hundred-Brick Fist (already deployed) and Thousand-Brick Fist (the killshot).
The chapter closes on a Sanji French-culinary attack cascade — six new attacks in three pages, every one footnoted with the French word and meaning: Collier Coup (neck, page 16), Épaule Sprawl (shoulder, page 17), Selle de Ouch (saddle, page 17), Côtelette Kabosh (back, page 17), Gigot Charlie-le-Horse (thigh, page 17), Poitrine Treader (breast meat, page 17), and the killing Mouton Mallet (lamb, page 18 — face-hammer kick). Kuroobi’s “THE ULTIMATE PUNCH, THE THOUSAND-BRICK—” never lands; he is interrupted and beaten down. Sanji’s cooldown line: “I GUESS YOU WON’T BE NEEDING DESSERT.” Kuroobi falls (page 18 final panel — eyes rolled, fallen-face).

New reveals
- Sanji-vs-Kuroobi combat-pair locks and resolves in one chapter (pages 7-18). The Ch. 75 Kuroobi Ray Fish-Man Officer forward-prediction is consummated; the Ch. 84 Sanji-clears-pool-deck pre-load is completed. Like Choo in Ch. 84, Kuroobi is dispatched in a single chapter on-land after Sanji inverts the combat-arena.
- Fish-Man Karate’s water-power-multiplier doctrine is canonized on-page (page 9, Kuroobi). The water-asymmetric-combat-arena mechanic — humans lose force underwater; fish-men gain it — is the chapter’s structural reveal. Forward-resonance: Jinbei (Marineford Ch. 549+), Hody Jones (Fish-Man Island Ch. 612+), every later underwater-combat re-keys here.
- Fish-Man Karate has a tiered named-attack hierarchy (page 16-18): Hundred-Brick Fist → Thousand-Brick Fist (ultimate). The named-attack-naming convention extends to fish-man combat-discipline, parallel to Three-Sword-Style and Black-Leg.
- Kuroobi’s combat-vocabulary on-page: Forearm Sledge (page 7), Duelling Hair Tether (page 8), Bowel-Buster / Instant Undersea (page 9), Flaming Axe Kick (page 10), Back Foot Jawbreaker (page 10), Guffaw Palm Bomb (page 11), Pulverizing Pressure Plunge (page 14), Hundred-Brick Fist (named retro on page 16), Thousand-Brick Fist (announced page 16, never lands). Nine named techniques in one chapter — the most prolific named-combat-display by a single fish-man to-date.
- Sanji’s French-culinary attack cascade — six new attacks in three pages, each with on-page footnote (pages 16-18). Collier Coup (re-deployed from Ch. 73 with footnote re-printed), Épaule Sprawl (shoulder), Selle de Ouch (saddle), Côtelette Kabosh (back), Gigot Charlie-le-Horse (thigh), Poitrine Treader (breast meat), Mouton Mallet (lamb). The footnote-per-attack format is the most concentrated demonstration of the Sanji French Culinary Attack Naming Convention in the series to-date.
- Sanji’s post-combat cooldown-line convention installs (page 18 — “I GUESS YOU WON’T BE NEEDING DESSERT.”). The culinary-pun finisher-line at moment of opponent-defeat is signed as a Sanji register.
- Luffy’s rubber neck is used as a snorkel/breathing-tube by Genzo (pages 5-6). The devil-fruit-as-survival-prop combat-grammar — the rubber-body’s utility to other characters as an environmental tool — is canonized. Forward-resonance: every later Luffy-as-utility-prop beat (the slingshot-Usopp launches, the Going Merry rescue-lifts) re-keys here.
- Genzo dives for Luffy (pages 4-7), fulfilling the Ch. 84 Genzo-volunteers-to-dive declaration. The Bell-mère-grove-defender register extends to literal-self-sacrifice-for-a-stranger. Genzo is knocked unconscious by Kuroobi’s Forearm Sledge and retrieved by Sanji.
- Sanji enters the water for the first time on-page in the series (page 7-8). The only-non-DF-Straw-Hat-as-water-rescue tactical premise is operationalized. Sanji can swim and combat underwater — a combat-mode no other current Straw Hat possesses.
- Arlong’s end-game-plan-for-Nami is voiced aloud (page 13, Kuroobi monologue): “I CAN’T VERY WELL LET THAT TRAITOR NAMI GET AWAY”. The Ch. 80 implied Arlong’s-promise-was-a-lie premise is here canonized — Nami’s coerced-officer position with Arlong was structurally pre-determined to end in her execution. Pre-loads the arc-climax beat where Luffy must intervene before Arlong reaches Nami.
- Cover-story Vol. 3 of Sanji’s solo cover arc (page 1 — bullfrog companion, green apple, BAD COWBOY/JUSTICE signpost). The solo-cover-story continues; this is the third installment after Ch. 80 (zebra-grapes) and presumably Ch. 85 (not yet read).
- Combat-arena-relocation as anti-fish-man counter-tactic (page 15 — Sanji draws Kuroobi out of the pool). The water-power-multiplier doctrine has a structural counter — drag the fish-man onto land where the asymmetry inverts. The chapter installs this as the canonical anti-Fish-Man-Karate combat-counter.
Foreshadowing seeds planted
Payoffs (seeds from earlier chapters that resolve here)
Mentions / appearances
- Sanji — protagonist of the chapter. Catches Zoro (pages 2-3 — “STOP, ZOLO!!”). Dives in to fight Kuroobi (pages 7-8). Absorbs the full Fish-Man Karate combat-cascade underwater (pages 9-14). Surfaces with Genzo’s upper-body (page 15) and calls Kuroobi up to land. Deploys Collier Coup, Épaule Sprawl, Selle de Ouch, Côtelette Kabosh, Gigot Charlie-le-Horse, Poitrine Treader, Mouton Mallet (pages 16-18). Defeats Kuroobi with the chapter-closer cooldown-line: “I guess you won’t be needing dessert.” Status at chapter close: standing over fallen Kuroobi on the pavement.
- Kuroobi — primary combat-antagonist. First on-page combat-action (Forearm Sledge, page 7 — diving onto Genzo). Engages Sanji underwater (page 8+). Monologues Arlong-Pirates end-game-plan (page 13). Deploys Forearm Sledge, Duelling Hair Tether, Bowel-Buster/Instant Undersea, Flaming Axe Kick, Back Foot Jawbreaker, Guffaw Palm Bomb, Pulverizing Pressure Plunge, Hundred-Brick Fist (retroactively named), Thousand-Brick Fist (announced; never lands). The Ch. 79 silent-enforcer / Ch. 75 etymology pre-load is operationalized as full Fish-Man Karate combat-discipline. Status at chapter close: defeated on the pavement (page 18 final panel — fallen-face, eyes rolled).
- Genzo — dives solo for Luffy (page 4, SPLASH!!). Uses Luffy’s stretchy neck as a snorkel-breathing-tube (pages 5-6). Plans to shatter Luffy’s chain-rock with a kick and leave the rescue to Sanji (page 6). Knocked unconscious by Kuroobi’s Forearm Sledge (page 7). Retrieved by Sanji (page 15 — “HALF!?” / “HALF OF HIM!?” — Sanji surfaces with Genzo’s upper-body only). Status at chapter close: partially revived on the pavement; the dive-and-revival completes the Ch. 84 volunteer-to-rescue arc.
- Luffy — chained-and-sinking continues from Ch. 83. Briefly active on-page when Genzo grabs his neck (pages 5-6) — Luffy is presumably semi-conscious at that point. No dialogue. The neck-as-snorkel utility is the chapter’s only Luffy-side beat.
- Zoro — on the pavement, attempting to dive for Luffy (page 2-3). Stopped by Sanji’s intercept (“STOP, ZOLO!! IF YOU GO INTO THE OCEAN LIKE THAT YOU’LL DIE!!”). Off-panel after page 3; presumably re-engaged with Hatchan elsewhere on the courtyard. Status at chapter close: not visible on-page.
- Hatchan — taunting from off-panel (page 4 — “INTERESTING!! HE WANTS TO FIGHT ME, A FISH-MAN, UNDERWATER!!?” in dual-laughing-faces panel with Arlong). Bystander to the Genzo-dive beat. Otherwise off-panel for the chapter — the Ch. 84 Zoro-vs-Hatchan combat continues elsewhere on the courtyard.
- Arlong — off-panel jeer (page 4 — “BWAH HA HA HA HA HA! LEARN THIS LESSON WELL!!! YOU HUMANS ARE NO MATCH FOR US!!”). Bystander to Genzo-dive beat.
- Choo — referenced obliquely as fish-man-karate-master predecessor (page 7 establishes Kuroobi as the on-page karate engagement). Not visible on-page; presumably still sunk from Ch. 84.
- Nojiko — on the pavement-side observing (page 15 — “SANJI!!” reaction). One of the witnesses to Sanji’s surface-emergence with Genzo’s upper-body.
- Yosaku / Johnny — reaction-pair on the pavement-side (page 15 — “HALF!?” / “HALF OF HIM!?” / “DON’T WORRY… HE’S ALL RIGHT!”). The chorus-reaction register continues.
- Nami — referenced in Kuroobi’s monologue (page 13 — “AND AFTER ALL THIS, I CAN’T VERY WELL LET THAT TRAITOR NAMI GET AWAY, CAN I!?”). Not on-page. The chapter canonizes Nami-as-marked-for-death-by-Arlong.
- Usopp — referenced in Kuroobi’s monologue (page 13 — “THAT LONG-NOSED FOOL”). Not on-page; presumably still at Cocoyasi village square per Ch. 80.
- Arlong Pirates — Kuroobi central combatant; Hatchan and Arlong as off-panel jeerers; Choo presumed-sunk. The crew’s officer-roster is depleted further (Choo Ch. 84, Kuroobi Ch. 86 — both Sanji-defeated; Hatchan Ch. 84-87 still engaged with Zoro).
- Straw Hat Pirates — Sanji central combatant; Zoro stopped from diving; Luffy chained-underwater; Nami marked-for-death (off-page); Usopp off-page (village square).
- Arlong Park — chapter’s primary setting (the courtyard, the pool, the pool-deck). Pages 2-18.
- Cocoyasi Village — implied off-page (Genzo is Cocoyasi-side; the villagers are presumed-present per Ch. 84).

Yosaku/Johnny/Nojiko/Genzo (partially-revived) react: “HALF!?” / “HALF OF HIM!?” / “DON’T WORRY… HE’S ALL RIGHT!!” / “I’LL EXPLAIN LATER!!!” Sanji: “COME ON OUT HERE, YOU LOUSY FISH!!! I’M GOING TO FINISH YOU!!!” (to the water).
- Page 16 — Kuroobi emerges + Collier Coup: Arlong Park architecture upper panel. Kuroobi emerges (SPLASHHH…!!). Kuroobi monologue: “KOFF!! YOU STILL DON’T UNDERSTAND. I’M MANY TIMES STRONGER THAN YOU ARE. IT DOESN’T MATTER IF WE’RE IN WATER OR OUT OF IT. AND NOW YOU’VE MADE ME MAD.” / “I SENT YOU FLYING BEFORE WITH THE HUNDRED-BRICK FIST. BUT MY GREATEST MOVE IS THE THOUSAND-BRICK FIST. THE LIKELIHOOD OF YOUR SURVIVAL IS…ZERO!!!” / “I’LL DESTROY YOU WITH THE ULTIMATE MOVE OF FISH-MAN KARATE.” Sanji: COLLIER COUP!!! (WHA) — kick to neck. Footnote at bottom: “COLLIER IS THE FRENCH TERM FOR ‘NECK MEAT’.”
- Page 17 — French-culinary attack cascade (5 attacks in one page): Sanji deploys ÉPAULE SPRAWL!!! (footnote: ÉPAULE = SHOULDER. NOTE: THE ASTERISKS ON THIS PAGE INDICATE FRENCH WORDS.); SELLE DE OUCH!!! (SELLE = SADDLE (AS IN “SADDLE OF MUTTON”)); CÔTELETTE KABOSH!!! (CÔTELETTE = BACK); GIGOT CHARLIE-LE-HORSE!!! (GIGOT = THIGH); POITRINE TREADER!!! (POITRINE = BREAST MEAT). Kuroobi: “WHAT DID YOU SAY YOU’D DO TO ME!?” / ”…!!”. Final panel: Kuroobi face-down (THO MP…).
- Page 18 — Mouton Mallet + cooldown line: Kuroobi rises (WOOOH!!!) “THE ULTIMATE PUNCH, THE THOUSAND-BRICK—” Sanji “HUMAN!! WHY, YOU LITTLE…!!!” Sanji’s response: BA-BA-BA-BA-BAM / MOUTON MALLET!!!! (footnote: MOUTON = LAMB). Sanji’s cooldown: “I GUESS YOU WON’T BE NEEDING DESSERT.” Final panel: Kuroobi fallen, eyes rolled (OOO OOO).

Open questions raised
- Luffy is still chained underwater at chapter’s end. Genzo’s plan to kick-shatter the rock was interrupted by Kuroobi’s Forearm Sledge; Sanji has cleared Kuroobi but has not yet returned to the underwater rescue. Pending: who completes Luffy’s actual extraction. Likely candidate: Sanji re-dives next chapter.
- Where is Zoro? Stopped from diving by Sanji on page 3, then off-panel for the rest of the chapter. Presumably re-engaged with Hatchan on a different part of the courtyard. The Zoro-vs-Hatchan Six-Sword vs Three-Sword duel from Ch. 84 is still mid-fight.
- Where is Nami? Marked-for-death by Arlong (per Kuroobi monologue page 13), but not on-page this chapter. Last on-page Ch. 80 at Arlong Park during her confrontation with Arlong / Luffy-witnessing-without-context.
- Where is Usopp? Long-nosed fool referenced in Kuroobi monologue (page 13). Last on-page Ch. 80 at the Cocoyasi village square — pending the village-square arc-beat.
- What is the BAD COWBOY / JUSTICE signpost in the cover-story? Possibly a one-off comic gag (cover-stories often have whimsical signposts); possibly a place-name pre-load if Sanji’s wandering-cook backstory is set in a location with this name. Pending the cover-story’s continuation.
- Is the bullfrog Sanji’s pet in his cover-story? The bandanna on the frog suggests a recurring animal-companion arc (parallel to the Ch. 80 zebra). Pending continuation.
- Will Hatchan’s Sun Pirates / Sabaody redemption arc be pre-loaded by Sanji-vs-Kuroobi’s resolution? The chapter resolves the Sanji-vs-Kuroobi pairing but leaves Hatchan in active combat with Zoro. The Ch. 73 Sanji-Hatchan cordial-meet ferry-ride is now fully reframed as the post-arc redemption pre-load — the chapter that resolves Sanji-vs-Kuroobi without involving Hatchan structurally preserves Hatchan as a future-non-villain candidate. Forward: Sun Pirates / Sabaody (Ch. 491+).
