Sanji Versus Hatchan Future Combat Pair
Status: disconfirmed-by-arc-resolution · Technique: parallel-arc-structure · combat-pairing-pre-load
Ch. 88 — Hatchan is dropped by Arlong’s water-pressure attack on page 6, not by Sanji. The Sanji-vs-Hatchan combat-pair forward-prediction is
fully disconfirmed at the arc level — Sanji’s actual arc-combat pair is Kuroobi (locked Ch. 88 page 8/17). The Ch. 73 cordial-first-meet ferry-ride between Sanji and Hatchan now reads as
pre-loading the post-arc Sabaody-redemption register (Ch. 491+), not the arc-fight. Forward-resonance shifts: the cordial-first-meet was never the
pre-combat-cordiality signal; it was the
post-arc-cordiality setup.
Ch. 87 — Zoro-vs-Hatchan fight reaches off-page resolution; Hatchan tableau’d KO’d on the courtyard pavement (page 3)
The Ch. 73 cordial-first-meet-becomes-combat-pair grammar resolves on the Zoro axis, not the Sanji axis . The Ch. 87 tableau (page 3, DOOM!! / HACHI… ) canonizes the off-page resolution. The Sanji-vs-Hatchan register is now confirmed as deferred to Sabaody (Ch. 491+) for the redemption-arc payoff, not Arlong Park.
Ch. 86 — Sanji’s Arlong-arc combat-pair confirmed as Kuroobi, not Hatchan
The Ch. 84 Hatchan-to-Zoro pairing-swap is here fully-confirmed-by-Sanji’s-actual-arc-fight : Sanji’s Arlong-arc combat-pair is Kuroobi (resolved Ch. 86), not Hatchan. The Ch. 73 cordial-first-meet ferry-ride is now retroactively reframed as the cordial-non-combat register that pre-loads the post-arc redemption (Sabaody Ch. 491+). The Ch. 73 forward-prediction’s combat-pair component is wrong; the cordial-meet-becomes-recurring-relationship component is right.
The seed
Ch. 85 page 16 — full structural disconfirmation: Zoro defeats Hatchan, not Sanji
The Ch. 73 cordial-first-meet ferry-ride between Sanji and Hatchan is operationally resolved — but Zoro defeats Hatchan, not Sanji . The Sanji-vs-Hatchan combat-pair prediction is fully disconfirmed at the arc-fight level. Forward-re-keying: the Sanji-Hatchan ferry-ride is structurally re-purposed as the cordial-first-meet pre-load for the Sabaody Ch. 491+ takoyaki-stand redemption arc (rather than the arc-fight). Status: arc-fight prediction fully disconfirmed; post-arc-redemption prediction reinforced.
Ch. 83 pages 7-8 — partial-payoff: verbal-pair landed in combat-register
Sanji enters the fray on behalf of Luffy (page 7 — I’VE ENTERED THE FRAY ON BEHALF OF THAT FOOL OF A CAPTAIN. ). Hatchan recognizes Sanji’s strength: ‘YOU’RE PRETTY STRONG, FOR A HUMAN…’ (page 8). Sanji counter-spars in cordial-pejorative register: ‘WANNA TEST MY GALLANTRY, CRAP-FISH?’ (page 8). The Ch. 73 cordial-first-meet is rotated into a verbal-combat-pair register without the pair-locking physically yet. By page 11, Sanji explicitly hands Hatchan to Zoro: ‘OKAY, ZOLO, I’LL LET YOU DEAL WITH THE OCTOPUS.’ — the physical-pair rotates to Zoro-vs-Hatchan . The Sanji-Hatchan pairing-grammar resolves as verbal-pair, not combat-pair for the arc. Status: partial-confirmed.
Why this matters
Oda regularly pre-pairs combat opponents at first-meet via cordial-but-distant registers that are later re-staged in combat . The character-pair-grammar Oda uses for the Straw-Hat vs. Arlong-Pirates officer-matchups (Luffy/Arlong, Zoro/Hatchan-then-Kuroobi, Sanji/Kuroobi-then-Hatchan, Usopp/Chu) is pre-loaded by which Straw Hat encounters which Arlong-officer first . The Ch. 73 Sanji-Hatchan ferry-meet pre-loads their later combat-pairing.
Ch. 84 — Hatchan-combat-slot goes to Zoro, not Sanji
The Hatchan-vs-Zoro duel locks at Ch. 84 page 2; Sanji takes the Choo-combat-slot (page 12). The Ch. 73 cordial-first-meet between Sanji and Hatchan does NOT operationally-restage as combat at the arc-fight point. The combat-pair prediction is partially disconfirmed — the Sanji-Hatchan cordial-meet should be reframed as the Sabaody-redemption-arc pre-load (Ch. 491+) rather than the arc-fight.
