Chapter 609: Adventure

Summary

The Straw Hats arrive at last on Fish-Man Island — the Kingdom of Ryugu — and reunite with Camie and Pappag at a coral inlet, where Sanji’s near-fatal mermaid nosebleeds open the chapter as comic peril (pp. 1–4). Luffy learns his friend “Big Boss Jimbei,” with whom he promised to reunite here two years ago, has left the island along with all former fish-man pirates and resigned the Warlords after the war (pp. 5–6). When a royal gondola arrives the mermaid girls hide the crew, and Ryugu Kingdom’s three princes — Fukaboshi, Ryuboshi and Manboshi, the “Neptune brothers” — appear hunting an illegal entry, only to dance off after the girls deflect them (pp. 7–10). Sanji’s blood erupts in a geyser, exposing the crew (pp. 10–11). Chopper begs for a transfusion, but a fish-man named Hammond of the Fish-Man District reveals the island’s law forbidding humans to mix blood with fish-men — the same refusal that let the wounded hero Fisher Tiger bleed to death — and demands Luffy come to the Fish-Man District in the name of Captain Hody Jones of the New Fish-Man Pirates (pp. 12–14). Luffy answers with a Jet Pistol, downs Hammond, and stares a charging sea beast into surrender without a blow (pp. 15–16). Camie commandeers the princes’ gondola and a tamed sea beast to rush Sanji toward the port town for a donor (pp. 17–18), while back at the inlet Fukaboshi reveals the truth: the princes weren’t there to arrest the Straw Hats but to deliver a message from Jimbei — and they have now missed their chance (pp. 18–19).
