Profile
A pike conger fish-man and fighter of the New Fish-Man Pirates; the first post-timeskip fish-man shown on-page. Confronts the Straw Hats at the deep-sea trench gateway to Fish-Man Island, demanding they submit as vassals or have their ship sunk.
Etymology
Confidence: high · ハモンド Hamondo is built on 鱧 hamo, the Japanese word for the pike conger eel — which is precisely Hammond’s on-page fish-man species (name-caption “Pike Conger Fish-Man,” p. 16; specifically the daggertooth pike conger). Oda routinely names fish-men after their species (Arlong/saw-shark, Hatchan/octopus); here ハモ (hamo) + ‑ンド produces the English-sounding surname “Hammond” (also reading as the Hammond organ / a real English name). The fishing-gear register carries into his named attack “Bay-o-net / Trawl Net” (帆引き網 hobikiami, “sailing trawl net”) — a conger that fights by hauling nets.
