  • **Chapter title-page reveals the new arc location is *Whisky Peak* on *Cactus Island*; cover splash is a two-page in-arc tableau** (pages 1-2). Page 1 (header): *Chapter 107: MOONLIGHT AND TOMBSTONES*. The title-page composition is a single in-color tableau (no cover-story B-plot this chapter — the page IS the chapter-opening splash): Zoro face-down sprawled at the bottom in front of an antique flower-print sofa; Nami standing in a green-and-yellow plaid mini-dress next to a tall vanity mirror; a curly-black-haired man in a black suit holding a hand-painted sign reading **DON'T FUNK** to camera-left. Page 2 (right side of spread): Luffy perched upper-left in a vest holding a wine goblet to his lips with a hand-painted **It's funky** sign; Sanji center-frame seated on the same sofa, sunglasses on, holding a **GOAL?** sign with a small skull-and-crossbones doodle in the corner; Usopp lower-right partly obscured wearing an owl-mask. The composition codes the crew as having just *finished a party* — passed-out Zoro, dressed-up Nami, posed-up Luffy/Sanji/Usopp with funky-themed signage. The splash visually pre-loads the chapter-body reveal: the *moonlight* of the title is the **post-celebration moonlit graveyard**, and the *tombstones* are **the Cactus Island cactus-shaped boulders**. The *don't funk / it's funky / goal?* signage matches Usopp's *FUNKY* sticker-graphic from his Ch. 23+ register, signaling the **Usopp-cover-style funky-aesthetic** carrying into the Alabasta saga's opening chapter.
  • **Whisky Peak is named on-page; *Cactus Island* is the macro-island name; the *cactus-rocks-shaped-like-tombstones* geography tell is canonized** (page 3, page 8). Page 3 opens (post-splash) on a wide moonrise establishing-shot — a black silhouette of a row of tall, segmented, cactus-shaped rock-formations on a coastline against a full moon — captions: *'THE MOON RISES… …OVER THE REVELRY AT WHISKY PEAK…'* Page 8 reprises the cactus-rocks composition (Luffy/Nami/Sanji passed out in foreground, cactus-rocks in the background, full moon overhead) with the line: *'…THE CACTUS ROCKS SEEM TO DANCE… …SO BEAUTIFULLY IN THE MOONLIGHT.'* Page 14 (Zoro's *I'll take you on, Baroque Works* showdown): captions of cactus-rocks as background icons recurring across the action panels. The chapter installs the **Whisky Peak / Cactus Island geography** — a town built among tombstone-shaped cactus-rocks, the *first* island the Straw Hats land on inside the Grand Line proper. The cactus-rock geography is **functionally and visually identical to a graveyard** — the chapter-title *MOONLIGHT AND TOMBSTONES* is the literal description of the establishing shot. Pre-loads the **welcome-trap-as-graveyard doctrine**: bounty-hunters dress the island as a hospitable celebration-town for incoming Grand-Line pirates, then add the pirates' own corpses to the cactus-rock-tombstone iconography. Forward-pattern: every Baroque Works trap-town across the Alabasta saga (Little Garden, Drum, the Sandora desert) reuses the *welcome-trap-with-tombstone-iconography* template installed here.
  • **Whisky Peak's welcome-trap doctrine — *get-them-drunk-then-collect-their-bounties* — is the entire town's economic model** (pages 3-7). Page 3 lower-tier — Usopp in mid-victorious-storytelling pose with a beer mug, *DOOOM SMAK* SFX, embellishing the Calm-Belt-escape: *'HEY, YOU SEA MONSTERS, GET YOUR FLIPPERS OFF MY FRIENDS!! …WITH DELIGHT! AND SO THEN, I SAID IN A VERY COOL WAY… I MUST ADMIT, OUR GREAT ESCAPE FROM THE CALM BELT HAD ME SHAKING…'* — the surrounding townspeople (depicted as a crowd of fawning, mostly-female devotees with hearts and *SIGH* word-balloons): *'CAPTAIN USOPP IS SO COOL!! YAAAAH-HOORAH!!!'* Page 4 — the celebration cascades across the crew: Zoro out-drinking ten men (*'WOW! AMAZING! HE DRANK TEN MEN UNDER THE TABLE!!!'* — *BURP*, *THUD!*), Nami out-ranking 12 in a drinking competition (*'WOW! SHE OUTRANKED 12!'* — *FWUMP*, *DA-DOOM TADAH!*), Luffy eating enough food for 20 (*'GASP! THE CAPTAIN OVER THERE'S EATEN ENOUGH FOOD FOR 20! GIMME MORE!! NO MORE… THE COOK'S DOWN!'* — *DA-DOOM YAY YAY YAY*). Page 5 — Sanji *flirting with 20 girls at once*: *'…FLIRTING WITH 20 GIRLS AT ONCE! WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE, ANYWAY!?'* (Nami's voice). The surrounding townspeople (faces obscured by swirly-laughter spirals): *'HA HA HA! THIS ONE'S… I'M SO PLEASED YOU'RE HAVING FUN. MI-MI-MI… AN ENJOYABLE EVENING! AH-EH! HA HA HA! THIS CERTAINLY HAS BEEN…'* with Igarappoi's swirl-faced delight: *'I TRULY AM… HRMPH! INDEED…'* The chapter installs the **Whisky-Peak-as-bounty-hunter-celebration-trap** doctrine: the town's *entire economy* is the welcome-drug-them-then-collect-their-bounties business model. The townspeople are not townspeople — they are **a hundred bounty hunters in costume**, performing the *adoring-fans-of-newly-arrived-pirates* welcome-routine as the trap-mechanism. Forward-pattern: this is the *first Grand-Line town the Straw Hats encounter*, and Oda uses it to install the **Grand-Line-is-not-what-it-appears** baseline — the first town is **a literal corpse-economy** disguised as a celebration.
  • **Baroque Works — *secret society* — named on-page for the first time; codename-hierarchy + total-secrecy-within-the-ranks doctrine installed** (pages 6, 13-14). Page 6 — after the townspeople (now post-celebration) walk through Whisky Peak's stone-arch logo: *'BAROQUE'* / *BAROQUE DOON!* — a giant skull-and-feather emblem with the word *BAROQUE* arching above it appears in the page-bottom panel-spread, with a parallel-track caption: *'…FOR US.'* The crewmate-courier-vulture (the *Unluckies*' vulture, named in a later chapter) is shown carrying the report-document toward a mailbox stamped with the same Baroque skull-feather emblem. The mailbox-emblem reads: *BAROQUE*. The hand-off composition installs the **Baroque-Works-as-secret-society-with-formal-mail-courier-infrastructure** doctrine. Page 13 — Zoro confronts Igarappoi: *'I'LL TAKE YOU ON, BAROQUE WORKS.'* Igarappoi (shocked, exclamation-mark over his swirl-styled coif): *'WHY, YOU…!! HOW DO YOU KNOW THE NAME OF OUR SECRET SOCIETY!!?'* Zoro then enumerates the secret-society properties: *'YOU EVEN USE CODE-NAMES. THERE'S TOTAL SECRECY WITHIN YOUR RANKS. YOUR ORGANIZATION TRIED TO RECRUIT ME. NATURALLY, I TURNED YOU DOWN. LONG AGO, WHEN I WAS IN YOUR LINE OF WORK… YOU'RE BAROQUE WORKS, A BUNCH OF CROOKS WHO LOYALLY OBEY HIM. AND OF COURSE, THE IDENTITY OF THE BOSS AND HIS WHEREABOUTS ARE A MYSTERY TO EVERYONE.'* Igarappoi (sweating, swirls visibly tightening): *'THIS IS UNEXPECTED! BUT IF YOU KNOW ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION, YOU MUST DIE.'* The chapter installs the **Baroque Works** organization name + its **structural properties**: (a) a *secret society*, (b) *codename-hierarchy*, (c) *total internal secrecy* — *no agent knows another's true identity*, (d) the **identity and whereabouts of the *boss* are unknown even to members**, (e) *recruitment-targets-strong-criminals* — Zoro himself was a recruitment target during his pre-Romance-Dawn bounty-hunting career. Forward-pattern: the entire Alabasta-saga reveal-cascade (Mr. 0 = Crocodile, Miss All-Sunday = Nico Robin, Mr. 2 = Bon Clay, etc.) operates within the Ch. 107-installed codename-secrecy-with-mystery-boss framework. **The chapter is the first canonical articulation of the *secret-society-with-numbered-codenames* villain-organization template** — every later such organization (CP9, SWORD, etc.) re-keys to this Ch. 107 install.
  • **Mr. 8 / Igarappoi — Baroque Works field agent — first on-page named appearance** (pages 9, 13-14, 17-18). Page 9 lower-tier — Igarappoi enters the conversation from a doorway. Visual: tall, lean man with an enormous, sculpted **swirl-styled afro** (described in-text via the visual *DO-DOOM*), wearing a black double-breasted coat with bowtie, swirly *DOOM* aura, with closed eyes and serene expression. Caption-tier label: *IGARAPPOI A.K.A. MR. 8*. His first line: *'…INTO THE ABYSS.'* (completing his own line of poetry from page 8: *'TONIGHT… THE CACTUS ROCKS SEEM TO DANCE… SO BEAUTIFULLY IN THE MOONLIGHT.'* answered by Mr. 9: *'YOU'RE A POET… MR. 8!'*). Page 17 — Igarappoi exhibits his **saxophone-functioning-as-shotgun** combat gimmick: *'BRUPOW POW POW PE / IGARAPPA!!!'* — a wide-burst shotgun-blast emerges from the bell of his saxophone, hitting his own teammates by accident (*GAAAGH!!*). Page 18 — Nami (with Sanji): *'PHEW… WAS THAT A SHOTGUN? YOU COULD HURT SOMEONE WITH THAT. WE'LL HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WITH THEM…'* The chapter installs **Mr. 8 / Igarappoi** — Baroque Works' codename-8 field agent, dual-identity as **Whisky Peak's mayor / town-leader-cover-persona**, with a **saxophone-shotgun weapon** that fires shotgun-blasts via the wind-instrument bell (*IGARAPPA!!* attack-name). The dual-identity register (town-mayor-by-day, bounty-hunter-by-night, with formal swirly-styled-hair aesthetic and *poet* speech-pattern) installs the **Baroque-Works-agent-as-town-pillar disguise template** that the Alabasta saga repeatedly reuses. Forward-payoff: Igarappoi is later revealed as **Igaram, captain of Alabasta's royal guard**, undercover in Baroque Works to gather intel on the organization that's trying to destroy his country. The Ch. 107 swirly-formal *poet*-aesthetic pre-loads the *royal-guard-captain* register reveal.
  • **Mr. 9 — Baroque Works field agent — first on-page named appearance** (pages 6, 8-9, 17). Page 6 lower-tier — Mr. 9 is shown in mid-conversation with Miss Wednesday at the Unluckies' mailbox: *'LET'S HURRY AND PUT THE REPORT IN THE UNLUCKIES' MAILBOX. YES. DONE. I HOPE THAT PUTS US BACK IN THE BOSS'S GOOD GRACES.'* Visual: a slim man with a crown-shaped headdress / hat-piece, lips painted blue, wearing a bat-print blue tights costume with cape (the *Mr. 9 silhouette*), with a tally-counter / scepter prop. Page 8 — Mr. 9 standing on the cactus-rocks against the moon: *'YOU'RE A POET… MR. 8!'* Page 11 (after the Calm-Belt-escape report-card discussion): Mr. 9 reading from a posted bounty-notice — *'THIRTY MILLION BERRIES!!?'* / *'WHAT THE…!?'* Page 12 — *'TAKE EVERYTHING OF VALUE FROM THEIR SHIP AND TIE THEM UP IMMEDIATELY! IF WE HAVE TO KILL THEM, THEIR VALUE DROPS BY 30 PERCENT. THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO EXECUTE THEM PUBLICLY.'* Page 17 — Mr. 9 panics during the failed-shotgun-fire-on-Zoro sequence: *'STOP, YOU IDIOTS! YOU'LL SHOOT ME AS WELL!'* The chapter installs **Mr. 9** as a Baroque Works codename-9 field agent operating in Whisky Peak alongside Miss Wednesday as a *paired-mission unit*. The bat-tights / blue-lipstick / crown-hat aesthetic codes Mr. 9 as the *comic-relief flamboyant villain* register that recurs across the Baroque-Works numbered agents. The *paired-male-and-female-agent* pattern (Mr. N + Miss [Weekday]) is canonized here for the first time.
  • Vivi
  • **Miss Monday / *The Sister* — Baroque Works field agent — first on-page named appearance** (pages 4, 10, 14-15). Page 4 top tier — Miss Monday is the figure who out-drank Zoro: *'I GIVE UP. BURP.'* (Miss Monday post-drinking-victory). Page 7 — *'ISN'T IT TIME YOU STOPPED, TOO? HEY… ZOLO! WHAT A WIMP. THE GIRL'S ON HER 15TH! AND HER OPPONENT'S THE SISTER!! HE GAVE UP AFTER BESTING 13 PEOPLE!'* (townspeople, watching Zoro and Miss Monday's drinking contest). Page 10 — Miss Monday enters the saloon backroom in proper Baroque-Works briefing-context. Visual: a broad-shouldered, square-faced woman dressed as a Catholic-nun (black habit, white wimple), with strongman-tier musculature. Caption-tier label: *THE SISTER A.K.A. MS. MONDAY*. Her dialogue: *'BURP… THEY SURE CAN PUT AWAY THE BOOZE AND THE FOOD. AND I WAS ONLY DRINKING CARBONATED BARLEY TEA! BUT WAS A CELEBRATION REALLY NECESSARY… …FOR FIVE SCRAWNY KIDS!? WE SHOULD HAVE FINISHED THEM AT THE PORT. AS IT IS, THERE'S A FOOD SHORTAGE. AND NO WHALE MEAT IS HEADING THIS WAY.'* Page 15 — Miss Monday in combat-formation against Zoro. The chapter installs **Miss Monday** as a Baroque Works codename-Monday field agent, **dual-identity as one of the Sisters of the Cactus Island church / nun cover-persona**, with **brute-strength combat register** (out-drank Zoro, beat 13 men, the *Sister* combat-codename). The nun-disguise + strongman-power combination is the **first canonical Baroque-Works gender-paired strongman agent template** — every later Baroque-Works *Miss* numbered-day agent re-keys to the Ch. 107 Miss-Monday install. **First on-page articulation of the *Miss-[Weekday]* codename-grammar** as distinct from the *Miss-[Holiday]* register (Miss Valentine, Miss Doublefinger, Miss All-Sunday) that the later chapters reveal.
  • **The *Unluckies* — Baroque Works otter-and-vulture courier-and-spy team** (pages 6, 11-12). Page 6 — the Unluckies are first shown as the **mailbox-recipient pair**: a small black-feathered vulture-bird perched on top of a wooden mailbox stamped with the Baroque-skull-feather emblem (*KLAK!* — the mailbox-door clicking), and an otter visible in the corner of the panel reading: *'…FOR US. THEY'LL DELIVER IT TO THE BOSS… SKREEEE'* (vulture-screech). Page 11 — Mr. 9 references the courier-relay: *'I'VE TAKEN CARE OF THEM. WE CAN STILL MAKE A FAVORABLE REPORT TO THE BOSS. ONLY A FOOL JUDGES A PIRATE BY HIS APPEARANCE, MISS BUNBAY…'* The chapter installs the **Unluckies** — a **paired animal-courier team** (otter + vulture) that operates as the **field-to-boss communication channel** for the Baroque Works organization. They are *named* via the mailbox-label (*UNLUCKIES* on the mailbox in Mr. 9's earlier line: *'PUT THE REPORT IN THE UNLUCKIES' MAILBOX'*) but not visually full-named yet. The animal-courier-pair is the **first canonical *trained-animal-as-Baroque-Works-asset* register** — every later Baroque Works animal-handler (Mr. 4's gun-dog Lasoo, Miss Goldenweek's painting-monkey, Mr. 5/Miss Valentine's giant-camera-pelican, the Bananawani) re-keys to this install.
  • **Zoro is the *only one* who didn't actually get drunk — *a true swordsman never drinks himself into a stupor* — first on-page articulation of the doctrine** (pages 11-12). Page 11 (lower-tier, post-bounty-poster reaction) — Miss Monday: *'I'VE TAKEN CARE OF THEM. WE CAN STILL MAKE A FAVORABLE REPORT TO THE BOSS.'* Page 12 — the Baroque-Works agents approach the *passed-out Straw Hats* tableau (Luffy, Sanji, Nami, Usopp all face-down in food / barrels) under moonlight. Mr. 8: *'TAKE EVERYTHING OF VALUE FROM THEIR SHIP AND TIE THEM UP IMMEDIATELY!'* Then — *DOOM!!* — silhouette-reveal of **Zoro standing on the roof of the building above them, sword drawn, in full moonlight, with the full moon framing his head as a halo**. Caption-tier: *'A TRUE SWORDSMAN… …NEVER DRINKS HIMSELF INTO A STUPOR.'* Page 13 (top tier): close-up on Zoro, smirking, with a swords-and-bandana profile: *'YOU TRICK PIRATES INTO CELEBRATING THEIR PASSAGE ON THE GRAND LINE! AND A DEN OF BOUNTY HUNTERS CAN BE A DANGEROUS PLACE.'* Page 14 — Zoro mid-monologue with the bounty-hunters (a hundred-strong silhouetted-crowd in a *DOOM!!* wide-shot) leveling rifles at him: *'I'LL TAKE YOU ON, BAROQUE WORKS.'* The chapter installs **Zoro's *true-swordsman-never-drinks-himself-into-a-stupor* doctrine** as canon — the moonlight-rooftop-with-sword-drawn composition is the iconic Zoro-introduces-himself-as-the-arc's-first-combatant tableau. The *crew-asleep, captain-figure-awake* inversion is structurally significant: Luffy (the actual captain) is **also passed out** on the ground; Zoro is the one *standing guard*. The chapter installs the **Zoro-as-night-watch / Zoro-as-the-one-who-doesn't-trust-the-welcome** character register that recurs across every later arc (Zoro's pre-Whole Cake skepticism, his Wano-arc fasting-vigilance, etc.). Pre-loads the **'I should have figured this'-tier Sanji skepticism** that follows in later Whisky Peak chapters.
  • **Zoro reveals he was *in this line of work* (bounty hunting) and was recruited by Baroque Works** (pages 13-14). Page 13 (Zoro mid-monologue, hands on hips, smirking at Igarappoi): *'YOUR ORGANIZATION TRIED TO RECRUIT ME. NATURALLY, I TURNED YOU DOWN. LONG AGO, WHEN I WAS IN YOUR LINE OF WORK… YOU'RE BAROQUE WORKS, A BUNCH OF CROOKS WHO LOYALLY OBEY HIM.'* The chapter installs **Zoro's pre-Romance-Dawn bounty-hunter past as having intersected with Baroque Works**: at some point during his *Pirate Hunter Zolo* career (Ch. 3-22), the organization tried to recruit him into their numbered-agent ranks. Zoro turned them down. The exposition retroactively re-frames the **Ch. 3-7 *Pirate Hunter* register**: Zoro's bounty-hunter past was *industrialized enough* to attract Baroque-Works-grade recruitment attention. The line **directly contradicts the *Yosaku-and-Johnny bounty-hunter-pair* (Ch. 42+) frame** of bounty hunters as small-time freelancers — Baroque Works exists as a *organized recruitment-pipeline* for high-tier bounty hunters, and Zoro was visible enough on that pipeline to receive a recruitment offer. Forward-pattern: every later Zoro-and-Baroque-Works-agent encounter (Mr. 1 Daz Bones at Alabasta, the future Mr. 1 swordfighter-class enemy) re-keys to this Ch. 107 *Zoro-was-on-their-recruitment-radar* establish.
  • **Baroque-Works combat-tier reveal — *a hundred bounty hunters* are assembled to face Zoro alone** (pages 13-14). Page 14 — *DOOM!!* — the panel widens to show **a hundred-strong crowd of bounty-hunters in costume**, silhouetted against the cactus-rocks, leveling muskets and rifles at the lone Zoro on the rooftop. Mr. 8 (Igarappoi): *'LOOKS TO BE ABOUT A HUNDRED BOUNTY HUNTERS.'* Then: *'TOMBSTONE TO ADORN THE CACTUS ROCKS!!! ONE MORE… …!!!'* The chapter installs the **Whisky-Peak-bounty-hunter-headcount-tier** as roughly a hundred field operatives — the *entire town* is the operational cell. The line *'tombstone to adorn the cactus rocks'* lands the **chapter-title literal pay-off**: the cactus-rocks are *literally* the local tombstone-iconography. Forward-pattern: the *hundred-agents-per-island* scale-tier installed here is the **Baroque-Works operational-scale baseline** that the Alabasta saga then escalates from.

Summary

The chapter opens on a two-page in-arc color-splash tableau (pages 1-2) — the East-Blue Straw Hats arranged in a stylized funky-aesthetic post-celebration portrait: Zoro face-down on a flower-print rug, Nami in a plaid mini-dress next to a vanity, Sanji on a vintage sofa with a GOAL? sign, Luffy upper-frame with wine goblet and It’s funky sign, Usopp partly hidden in an owl-mask, and a curly-haired figure (Mr. 8 / Igarappoi) holding a DON’T FUNK sign. Page 1 carries the chapter banner: Chapter 107: MOONLIGHT AND TOMBSTONES. There is no cover-story B-plot in this chapter — the in-color splash IS the arc-opening title splash, marking the saga-transition from East Blue to Alabasta.

Page 3 — establishing shot: a moonlit silhouette of tall cactus-shaped rock-formations overlooking a town, with captions: “The moon rises… over the revelry at Whisky Peak…”Whisky Peak / Cactus Island named on-page for the first time. Usopp is in mid-storytelling at the celebration, dramatically embellishing the off-page Calm Belt escape (“Hey, you sea monsters, get your flippers off my friends!! …with delight!”) to a crowd of fawning townspeople: “Captain Usopp is so cool!!”

Pages 3-5 — the celebration cascades across the crew. Zoro out-drinks ten men; Nami out-drinks 12; Luffy eats food for 20; Sanji flirts with 20 girls at once. Nami (suspicious-aside): “Who are these people, anyway!?” The townspeople (all rendered with swirly-eye laughter-spirals to obscure their faces): “Ha ha ha! I truly am… Indeed…” — including Mr. 8 / Igarappoi in mayoral-cover-persona.

Page 6 — cut to two cloaked figures walking through a hayfield toward a small log cabin marked with a vulture-mounted mailbox stamped BAROQUE. They are debriefing: “That’s what we’ll report. ‘However, to restore our honor, we succeeded in inducing this group to come to Cactus Island.’” / “Our efforts to procure food for our town failed.” / “Let’s hurry and put the report in the Unluckies’ mailbox.” / “Done. I hope that puts us back in the boss’s good graces.” — and the mailbox-skull-feather emblem is shown in full: BAROQUE. The mailbox: stamped with the same crest. A vulture (SKREEE) is shown perched atop: “They’ll deliver it to the boss… for us.” The two figures are Mr. 9 (slim, crown-hat, blue lipstick, bat-tights with cape, scepter) and Miss Wednesday (the disguised princess Vivi, kerchief-headband and wavy hair).

Page 7 — back at the celebration: townspeople note Zoro and the Sister are tied in a drinking contest. “The girl’s on her 15th! And her opponent’s the Sister!! He gave up after besting 13 people!” (Zoro just gave up — “I give up. BURP.”). Each Straw Hat (Luffy, Sanji, Nami, Usopp) eventually passes out — “Sorry, I’ve had it…” / “This is paradise.” — leaving the celebration with bodies sprawled across the tables.

Page 8 — wide moonlit composition. “They’re all passed out… cold. Sweet dreams… brave adventurers. Tonight… the cactus rocks seem to dance… so beautifully in the moonlight.” Mr. 9 stands on the cactus-rocks against the moon, completing the line — “You’re a poet… Mr. 8!”

Page 9 — close-up on Mr. 8 / Igarappoi (tall, lean, sculpted-swirl black afro coiffure, black formal coat with bowtie, eyes closed, DO-DOOM aura): “…into the abyss.” Caption-label: IGARAPPOI A.K.A. MR. 8. He asks: “How are they?” Mr. 9 + Miss Wednesday (approaching, TMP TMP): “They’ve all fallen…” / “Oh, it’s you two.”

Page 10 — saloon backroom. Miss Monday enters — broad-shouldered nun-habit-wearing strongwoman: “Burp… they sure can put away the booze and the food. And I was only drinking carbonated barley tea! But was a celebration really necessary… for five scrawny kids!? We should have finished them at the port. As it is, there’s a food shortage. And no whale meat is heading this way.” Caption-label: THE SISTER A.K.A. MS. MONDAY. Mr. 8: “I did some checking up on them. Calm down. Take a look at this.” Miss Wednesday + Mr. 9: “Yeah! We did our best!” / “Don’t say that!”

Page 11 — Mr. 8 holds up a WANTED poster of Luffy. “Thirty million berries!!?” / “What the…!?” — the Baroque-Works agents react in shock to Luffy’s 30M-berry bounty (revealed Ch. 96 cover-arc). Mr. 8: “Oh well, I’ve taken care of them. We can still make a favorable report to the boss. Only a fool judges a pirate by his appearance, Miss Bunbay…” / “I’m so ashamed. Those guys are… (Ms. Monday♪)” (Mr. 9). Mr. 8: “If we have to kill them, their value drops by 30 percent. The government wants to execute them publicly. Take everything of value from their ship and tie them up immediately!”

Page 12 — the agents stride out to the passed-out Straw Hats tableau in the moonlit street. Mr. 9: “Sorry, but… would you let them sleep a while longer? They’re tired from the voyage.” (mock-fake plea). Then !!?“One of them got away! You! But you were passed out!” (Mr. 9, looking up). Wide-shot reveal: Zoro stands on a rooftop above them, sword drawn, framed by the full moon, in halo-composition. Caption-tier: “A true swordsman… …never drinks himself into a stupor.” (DOOM!!)

Page 13 — close-up: Zoro smirks, hair wet, sword in hand. “You trick pirates into celebrating their passage on the Grand Line! And a den of bounty hunters can be a dangerous place.” (The chapter is the first canonical articulation of Zoro’s a true swordsman never drinks himself into a stupor doctrine.) The panel widens to a wide-shot: a hundred bounty hunters in costume (cocking rifles, KLIK CHAK CHAK) silhouetted across the moonlit town square below. “Looks to be about a hundred bounty hunters.” Zoro (overlaid on the wide-shot): “I’ll take you on, Baroque Works.”

Page 14 — Igarappoi rears back in shock (ZING!!), swirls visibly tightening: “Why, you…!! How do you know the name of our secret society!!?” Zoro: “You even use code-names. There’s total secrecy within your ranks. Your organization tried to recruit me. Naturally, I turned you down. Long ago, when I was in your line of work… You’re Baroque Works, a bunch of crooks who loyally obey him. And of course, the identity of the boss and his whereabouts are a mystery to everyone.” Igarappoi: “Heh heh… was that a secret? This is unexpected! But if you know about our organization, you must die.” / “…tombstone to adorn the cactus rocks!!! One more…!!!”

Pages 15-17 — combat. The bounty hunters open fire (DOOOM!! WOO…); Zoro vanishes in the smoke (“Huh!? Where did he go!? He’s gone!!”); reappears with sword at Igarappoi’s throat (”…!!! Prefer a dozen new tombstones?”). The bounty hunters panic and try to shoot anyway; Igarappoi reflexively defends himself by firing his saxophone-shotgunBRUPOW POW POW PE / IGARAPPA!!! — and the wide-cone shotgun-blast hits his own teammates (GAAAGH!!).

Page 18 — chapter close. Two figures emerge into the moonlit street — Sanji and Nami, awake and walking up. Sanji (lighting a cigarette, SNUFF SNUFF): “Phew… was that a shotgun? You could hurt someone with that.” Nami: “We’ll have to be careful with them… it appears…!!” The chapter ends with three Straw Hats awake (Zoro + Sanji + Nami) vs. a hundred bounty hunters across the moonlit town, with Luffy and Usopp still passed out somewhere off-page — opening the structural-possibility that this entire combat will resolve without the captain present, for the first time in the series.

New reveals

  • Whisky Peak / Cactus Island named on-page (pages 3, 8) — the Straw Hats’ first Grand-Line landfall after Reverse Mountain.
  • Baroque Works — secret society — named on-page by Zoro (page 13). Doctrine installed: codename-hierarchy, total-secrecy-within-ranks, mystery-boss, recruits high-tier criminals.
  • Mr. 8 / Igarappoi debut — saxophone-shotgun gimmick (IGARAPPA!!!), Whisky Peak mayoral cover-persona (page 9, 17).
  • Mr. 9 debut — bat-tights, crown-hat, blue-lipstick aesthetic; paired-agent with Miss Wednesday (pages 6, 8, 11).

  • The Unluckies — Baroque Works otter-and-vulture courier-pair operating from a stamped mailbox in a hayfield log cabin (page 6).
  • Welcome-trap-with-tombstone-iconography doctrine — the entire town economy is the bounty-hunting trap (pages 3-7, 8).
  • Dead-vs-alive bounty doctrine: government pays 30% reduced for dead pirates because public execution is itself an asset (page 11).
  • Luffy’s 30M-berry Wanted poster reaches Baroque Works’ tactical-assessment radar (page 11).
  • Zoro’s a true swordsman never drinks himself into a stupor doctrine canonized; halo-moon-rooftop tableau (page 12).
  • Zoro was recruited by Baroque Works during his pre-Romance-Dawn bounty-hunter career and turned them down — re-frames the Pirate Hunter Zolo era (page 13).
  • Calm Belt escape referenced off-page (page 3) — first canonical mention of the Calm Belt as a navigable-but-deadly obstacle the crew already survived.

Notable panels

  • Pages 1-2 (color title splash, MOONLIGHT AND TOMBSTONES) — two-page funky-aesthetic in-color tableau of the East-Blue Straw Hats arranged in a stylized post-celebration portrait with hand-painted signs (It’s funky, GOAL?, DON’T FUNK). No cover-story B-plot. Marks the East-Blue-saga-closed / Alabasta-saga-opening transition.
  • Page 3 (top) — moonlit silhouette of cactus-shaped rock-formations: “The moon rises… over the revelry at Whisky Peak…” The chapter-title literally describes this panel.
  • Page 6 (bottom-tier) — the BAROQUE-emblem mailbox with the Unluckies’ perched vulture: first canonical Baroque Works visual logo.
  • Page 8 (full-page) — wide moonlit composition of all five Straw Hats passed out among barrels and platters, with the cactus-rock graveyard-iconography in the background and a poetic narration caption (“the cactus rocks seem to dance… so beautifully in the moonlight”) that lands the chapter-title.
  • Page 9 (top-tier silhouette → label-panel) — Igarappoi’s silhouette-debut against the rising moon, with the IGARAPPOI A.K.A. MR. 8 caption-label panel-frame. The villain-codename-label-panel grammar (cf. Villain Label-Panel Grammar First Installed) is here re-keyed for the Baroque-Works numbered-agent template.
  • Page 10 (middle-tier label-panel)THE SISTER A.K.A. MS. MONDAY close-up with the same villain-codename-label-panel grammar.
  • Page 12 (full-page reveal) — Zoro on the moonlit rooftop, sword drawn, framed by the full moon: the chapter’s iconic image and the first arc-opening Zoro-as-lead-combatant composition.
  • Page 13 (close-up smirking-Zoro)“I’ll take you on, Baroque Works” — the chapter’s load-bearing combat-declaration.
  • Page 14 (wide-shot) — a hundred bounty-hunters silhouetted across the cactus-rock-town, leveling rifles at the lone Zoro on the rooftop.
  • Page 17 (silhouette-displacement) — Zoro reappears behind Igarappoi with sword at his throat — first canonical Zoro mid-combat displacement.
  • Page 18 (cigarette-light close-up of Sanji + Nami) — chapter-closing reveal that two more Straw Hats are awake.

Open questions raised

  • Who is the Baroque Works boss? (Identity reserved, not named in Ch. 107. Forward-payoff: Mr. 0 = Sir Crocodile, revealed across Ch. 155-174. See Imu Identity adjacency via the Alabasta-saga-political-machinery context.)
  • Why did Baroque Works try to recruit Zoro? (Zoro’s pre-Romance-Dawn bounty-hunter career was visible enough to attract recruitment attention — what was his profile on Baroque-Works’ books during the Ch. 3-22 Pirate Hunter Zolo era?)
  • What is the broader organization-structure of Baroque Works? (How many numbered agents? Are there agents above Mr. 8 / Miss Monday with higher operational rank? Forward-payoff: the Officer-Agent vs. Frontier-Agent hierarchy reveal across the Alabasta saga.)
  • Who are Miss Wednesday and Mr. 9 really? (Mr. 9’s true identity is never fleshed out; Miss Wednesday is later canonized as Vivi. The cover-persona-true-identity dichotomy is the Baroque-Works structural mystery.)
  • What does Igarappoi’s poet-aesthetic encode? (The swirly-formal poet register is not a typical bounty-hunter affect — pre-loads the Igaram-is-actually-Alabasta-royal-guard-captain reveal.)
  • Did the Straw Hats actually escape the Calm Belt by their own power? (Usopp’s storytelling embellishes the escape — “got your flippers off my friends!!” — but the off-page actual mechanism is reserved. Forward-payoff: Ch. 101-106 contain the Reverse-Mountain-to-Whisky-Peak voyage including the Laboon and the Calm Belt encounter.)
