- **Momoo named on-page as 'Momoo the Sea Cow: Heavy Combat Beast, Arlong's Pirates'** (page 6, on-panel name-card). The flipped-Gosa-Village monster from Ch. 70 is identified as Momoo, a Grand-Line creature retained by the Arlong Pirates as a combat-asset. The ten-times-strength fishmen-tier seed (Ch. 70) gets a *non-fishman* expansion — the Arlong Pirates also field a **Grand-Line sea-beast** as a pet/weapon. Pre-loads the Ch. 70 *strange grooves in the ground* / *huge monsters* unresolved question — answered in this chapter.
- **Momoo is explicitly identified as a Grand Line creature in East Blue** (page 7, panel 2): Sanji — *'That's a Grand Line monster!!!'* / Usopp — *'What's that doing in the East Blue?!'* The chapter compounds the Ch. 70 *fishmen-tier-is-Grand-Line-tier* axiom: the Arlong Pirates are *importing* Grand-Line fauna into East Blue. The tier-arbitrage is now *physically-transported-livestock*, not just *racial-statistic*.
- **Hatchan is introduced into Coco Village arc as a comic-relief courier** (pages 2-5, 14). Returning from Ch. 69, Hatchan appears at Arlong Park's front entrance summoning Momoo with his trumpet (*TOOT-TOOOOT*). Encounters Sanji on the dock; mistakes him for a guest (*'A GUEST?'*); reveals **he cannot tell humans apart from fishmen** (page 4: *'Are you a fishman too?'* / Sanji: *'But you look HUMAN!!'* / Hatchan: *'Of course!! I'm a cuddly octopus fishman!!'*). Volunteers to row Sanji to Coco Village to find Usopp. The chapter weaponizes Hatchan's cheerful-big-mouth temperament (Ch. 69 install) into **active aid-to-the-enemy** — the redeemability-pre-load now plays as *operational naivete*.
- **Hatchan calls himself a 'cuddly octopus fishman'** (page 4, panel 5). Self-introduced species-subtype. The Ch. 69 *octopus-pot-helmet* visual tell is now species-self-named. Forward-payoff: the Sun Pirates / Fish-Man Island arc taxonomy (Sabaody Ch. 491+ where Hatchan recurs as a takoyaki chef leans on the same octopus-fishman species identity).
- **The chapter title — 'Monsters of the Grand Line' — is plural** (page 1 title-card). The plural is on-page: Momoo is shown *and* implied to be one of several Grand-Line-origin assets the Arlong Pirates retain. The chapter generalizes Momoo into a *category* (*monsters*, plural), pre-loading the Arlong Park interior reveal in subsequent chapters.
- **Sanji names his first attack: 'Collier'** (page 11, panel 2-3, footnote: *COLLIER IS THE FRENCH TERM FOR 'NECK MEAT'*). First on-page Sanji *named-attack* in the series — a kick to Momoo's neck. The chapter installs the **French-culinary-term naming convention** for Sanji's kicks, the convention the entire Black-Leg combat-vocabulary will run on for the rest of the series (Mouton Shot, Concassé, Sélection, Anti-Manner Kick Course, Diable Jambe, etc.). The Ch. 73 *Collier* is the **first taxon** of the **Black-Leg-attacks-as-French-cuts-of-meat** lexicon.
- **Sanji's Black-Leg style debut against a Grand-Line-tier opponent** (pages 11-12). Sanji one-shots Momoo from above with a flying kick (*COLLIER!!! ...COUP!!! KABAM!!!*) sending the sea-cow plunging into the water (*KER-SPLOOSH!!*). The chapter establishes Sanji as **East-Blue's most-Grand-Line-tier-prepared fighter** alongside Luffy and Zoro — the recruit's combat-tier is *immediately demonstrated against the chapter's Grand-Line opponent*.
- **Luffy's first joint combat-action with Sanji** (pages 8-9). Luffy's *Gum-Gum Pistol* punches Momoo on the snout (*BONG!!*) to defend the food. Sanji on the side: *'You did it, Brother Luffy!! Good job!!'* / *'Keep your flippers off our food!!!'* The Ch. 68-69 recruitment-as-cook-and-fighter compound role lands in **first joint combat sequence** — Luffy hits first, Sanji finishes. Pre-loads the Straw-Hat-vs-Arlong-Pirates combat-pairing grammar.
- **Hatchan ferries Sanji to Coco Village** (page 14). The Arlong Pirates' first-mate is operating as **literal taxi** for an enemy he can't recognize. Hatchan: *'WE'RE HERE!! THIS IS COCO VILLAGE!!'* / Sanji (deadpan thank): *'Thanks.'* / Hatchan: *'GOODBYE!!'* / Sanji (sotto): *'What a strange fishman.'* The Arlong-Pirates-first-mate-aids-Straw-Hat tonal-comic register punctures Arlong-arc threat-grammar for two pages.
- **Arlong Park has been massacred off-screen — chapter cliff** (pages 15-16). Hatchan returns to Arlong Park to find his fellow Arlong Pirates **strewn around the courtyard, beaten unconscious** (*DOOOM!!* with the *ARLONG* signage above, then a wide pan: *RAAAAAAAR* / *BROTHERS!!!*). The chapter holds *who* did this off-page — the Arlong Pirates immediately assume it was **Roronoa Zolo** (page 16): *'HAS HE COME FOR MY HEAD?! THE PIRATE HUNTER?! RORONOA ZOLO!!?'* / *'HE DIDN'T COME...WE BROUGHT HIM!!'* / *'THE ONE IN THE SASH!! THAT WAS ZOLO!!!'* / *'HE WAS OUR CAPTIVE...!!'* The chapter cliffhangs on **(a) Zolo escaped the Arlong-Pirates captivity** and **(b) the courtyard was beaten flat in his wake**.
- **Nami's loyalty hinted as duplicitous on-page** (page 17, multiple panels): Arlong Pirate background mooks — *'BUT HOW DID HE GET FREE?! LORD ARLONG... WAS IT... ZOLO!?'* / *'NAMI!!! ...JUST TO TAKE YOUR HEAD... MAYBE NAMI SMUGGLED HIM IN HERE...'* / *'AYE...'* / *'HMMM, NAMI'S ATTITUDE WAS STRANGE TODAY.'* / *'SHE DID SAVE ZOLO WHEN HE JUMPED IN THE WATER!!'* — the chapter installs **the Arlong Pirates suspecting Nami of double-crossing them** as plot-thread. The Ch. 70-72 *Nami-as-Arlong's-witch* register is now *internally questioned* by the Arlong-Pirates themselves. The Nami-loyalty-axis-inversion seed is on-page.

Summary
Chapter pivots between two scenes. Arlong Park Front Entrance (pages 2-5) — Hatchan (Hachi) appears at the front entrance of Arlong Park, blowing a trumpet (TOOT-TOOOOT) to summon Momoo the Sea Cow, the Arlong Pirates’ Grand-Line-origin combat-beast. “HEY, MOMOO!!! IT’S TIME TO EAT!!!” Momoo is hidden in an underwater cave (page 3, kelp-and-anemone field with Momoo’s silhouette and trumpet-shaped horns). The roast-pig bait sets up a Momoo feeding-time scene. Hatchan turns to find a stranger — Sanji, in chef’s whites with a sword — already on the dock. “WHO ARE YOU!?” / Sanji: “What’s with the trumpet?” Hatchan introduces himself: “I’M HATCHAN!! BUT CALL ME HACHI!!!” The two have a comic-misidentification exchange — Hatchan asks if Sanji is a fishman too and a guest? Are you a navy man?; Sanji deadpans “Um, yeah, that’s it.” Hatchan reveals he cannot tell humans apart from fishmen (page 4: ‘But you look HUMAN!!’ / ‘Of course!! I’m a cuddly octopus fishman!!’). Hatchan grumbles about the recent traffic: ‘That’s our second stranger today. There’s some long-nosed stranger running around.’ — confirming Usopp (Ch. 71-72) was the first stranger. Sanji asks “How do I get to Coco Village?” — Hatchan: “GET IN!! YOU’RE A GUEST, RIGHT? I’LL TAKE YOU!!!” Sanji-internal: “Must be Usopp. I’d better go help him.”
Cut: small fishing-boat with Luffy + Johnny + Yosaku (pages 5-7) — Luffy and the bounty-hunters react to Momoo emerging beside their skiff (DOOOMM!!, two-page-equivalent spread of the spotted sea-cow with horns and nose-ring): ‘B-B-B-BIG… SEA MONSTER!!’ (Johnny / Yosaku). Luffy: ‘WHAT’S WITH HIM?’ / ‘LOOK AT ALL THAT BEEF!!!’ Yosaku: ‘WHAT’S THAT DOING IN THE EAST BLUE!!?’ Sanji (offstage / chronologically later): ‘A HUGE SWIMMING COW! OR IS IT A HIPPO?’ (this is in fact Luffy/Yosaku/Johnny in the boat, with Sanji about to arrive). The chapter installs Momoo’s species-name, captain-affiliation, Grand-Line-origin in three lines. ‘GIVE IT TO HIM, QUICK! HE’LL SWAMP US!!!’ — Yosaku throws the boat’s food overboard. Momoo SNIFFS the food, then attacks the boat anyway.
Combat sequence (pages 8-12) — Luffy enters first: ‘GUM-GUM PISTOL!!!’ (BONG!!), straight punch to Momoo’s snout (SPLOOSH! — Momoo plunges). Sanji (now arrived on Hatchan’s boat — though the boat-arrival is a parallel cut): ‘YOU DID IT, BROTHER LUFFY!! GOOD JOB!!’ / ‘KEEP YOUR FLIPPERS OFF OUR FOOD!!!’ Johnny/Yosaku scolding: ‘DON’T ATTACK THAT POOR HUNGRY CREATURE!!’ / ‘STUPID FOOLS!!’ / ‘NO!! YOU JUST MADE IT MAD!!’ Yosaku tries a peace-offering plate (‘HERE, FELLA, EAT UP.’) — Sanji: ‘IT’S PROBABLY INJURED AND CAN’T FORAGE FOR ITSELF.’ — ‘WHAT A HEART!!’ (Yosaku/Johnny weeping). Momoo bites Yosaku into its mouth (THWACK!!) — ‘WHY, YOU!!!’ — Yosaku: ‘THAT STUPID COW TRIED TO EAT ME ALONG WITH THE FOOD!!’ / ‘WHAT WAS THAT FOR??!’ (‘YOU FIEND!!’). Momoo rears for an attack (SPLASH!!!): ‘IT’S COMING!!! IT’S GONNA SINK US!!!’ Sanji draws a leg back (TA-THUMP!): ‘LET ME HANDLE THIS.’ / Luffy: ‘OKAY, THEN I’LL…’ Sanji launches his attack — COLLIER!!! (footnote: ‘COLLIER IS THE FRENCH TERM FOR ‘NECK MEAT”). RAAAAAAR!!! (Momoo roars) / KABAM!!! (impact) / …COUP!!! (full attack name). Luffy/Johnny in close-up: ‘WHOA!!’ / ‘STUPID HIPPO!’ Momoo KER-SPLOOSH!! into the water — defeated in a single combo. Crew at the boat: ‘THESE GUYS ARE CRAZY.’ (Johnny) / ‘I WORKED UP AN APPETITE.’ / ‘HOORAY! LET’S EAT!!’ (Luffy). Cut: ‘OKAY.’ / ‘TEA!!’ / ‘YOSAKU, TEA!!’
Coco Village arrival (page 14) — Hatchan rows Sanji into shore. ‘WE’RE HERE!! THIS IS COCO VILLAGE!!’ / ‘LORD ARLONG SHOULD BE HERE!!’ Sanji disembarks: ‘THANKS.’ — ‘IT WAS VERY NICE TO MEET ALL OF YOU!!’ (Hatchan, waving — page 14 mid). Sanji (sotto, walking off): ‘WHAT A STRANGE FISHMAN.’ Hatchan: ‘DON’T MENTION IT!! HAVE A NICE DAY!!’ Sanji walking through Coco Village’s empty streets: ‘SO I’D BETTER FIND OUR LONG-NOSE. THAT SAW-NOSE IS AROUND HERE SOMEWHERE.’ (referring to Arlong by his epithet).
Arlong Park interior — chapter cliff (pages 15-17) — Hatchan returns to Arlong Park (DOOOM!! under the ARLONG gate signage) to find the interior strewn with unconscious Arlong Pirates. Wide pan over fishmen down on the courtyard tile. ’…HAPPENED HERE!!?’ / ‘WHAT…’ Hatchan close-up: ‘RAAAAAAAR!!! BROTHERS!!!’ The remaining Arlong Pirates begin to surmise the attacker: ‘HAS HE COME FOR MY HEAD?! THE PIRATE HUNTER?! RORONOA ZOLO?!’ / ‘HE DIDN’T COME…WE BROUGHT HIM!!’ / ‘THE ONE IN THE SASH!! THAT WAS ZOLO!!!’ / ‘HE WAS OUR CAPTIVE…!!’ Another fishman (in the background): ‘WANNA CUT HIS THROAT? IT’LL CHEER YOU UP!’ (re: Zolo, suspended in some manner — SMEK ACK! ACK! / WE CAUGHT ‘IM / SMEK). Hatchan: ‘IN THE MOOD I’M IN, I DON’T KNOW…’ / ‘FWUPFWUPFWUP… RIGHT!! THEN I’LL JUST BE GOING!!’ Pan to a wider courtyard view (DOOOM!!): ‘BUT HOW DID HE GET FREE?! LORD ARLONG… WAS IT… ZOLO?!?’ The crew suspects Nami: ‘NAMI!!! …JUST TO TAKE YOUR HEAD… MAYBE NAMI SMUGGLED HIM IN HERE…’ / ‘AYE…’ / ‘HMMM, NAMI’S ATTITUDE WAS STRANGE TODAY.’ / ‘SHE DID SAVE ZOLO WHEN HE JUMPED IN THE WATER!!’ The chapter cliffhangs on Arlong’s crew internally suspecting Nami — pre-loading the Nami-loyalty-axis-inversion arc-grammar.
Cover (page 1): BUGGY’S CREW: AFTER THE BATTLE! Part 26 — “SORRY TO KEEP YOU WAITING!!” Buggy in pirate-captain regalia (front-and-center, arms-akimbo, DOOM!!); Mohji (left, smaller, smug); the Mystery Woman (Alvida-inferred, right, with checkered scarf). The cover-arc is in a reunion tier — the alliance signaled by Parts 14, 16, 20 is now visualized as shared crew lineup.
Question Corner (page 18) — Q: This is spirit, right? — A: Yes, you show true spirit. / Q: Three haiku of Nobunaga / Hideyoshi / Ieyasu — what would yours be? — A: Oda: ‘If the cuckoo won’t sing, buy me a cola. Meaning: I want a cola right now. (And not a diet cola.)’ / Q: I got a shaved head, do I have what it takes to be like Zolo? — A: ‘Stand up!! … When your hair grows back, challenge that barber again!!’
New reveals
- Momoo named on-page (page 6, panel 5, on-panel name-card): ‘MOMOO THE SEA COW: HEAVY COMBAT BEAST, ARLONG’S PIRATES.’ The Ch. 70 flipped-village monster gets its name, role, and crew-affiliation in a single panel.
- Momoo is from the Grand Line (page 7, Sanji: ‘That’s a Grand Line monster!!!’ / Usopp/Yosaku: ‘What’s that doing in the East Blue?!’). The Ch. 70 fishmen-tier-is-Grand-Line-tier axiom extends to Grand-Line-fauna-also-on-the-Arlong-Park-payroll.
- Hatchan cannot recognize humans on sight (page 4). Comic-relief register; structurally important — Arlong’s first mate is racially-oblivious-in-reverse. The Arlong-Pirates anti-human doctrine of the crew’s captain is not internalized by the first-mate in the same way.
- Hatchan self-identifies as a ‘cuddly octopus fishman’ (page 4). Species-subtype canonized via self-naming.
- Sanji’s named-attack convention installs: French culinary terms (page 11, Collier = neck meat). The Black-Leg combat-vocabulary’s etymological-spine is on-page in Sanji’s first named technique. Forward-payoff: every Sanji-named-attack across the series.
- Sanji one-shots a Grand-Line creature (pages 11-12). Sanji’s combat-tier is demonstrated against a Grand-Line-tier opponent in his first arc-action as a Straw Hat.
- Luffy + Sanji first joint combat sequence (pages 8-9). Pre-loads the Arlong-arc combat-pairing.
- Hatchan unwittingly ferries Sanji into Coco Village (page 14). Arlong’s own first-mate is the transport-vector for the Straw Hat raid on Coco Village.
- Arlong Park interior has been wrecked off-page (pages 15-16). The Arlong Pirates are strewn unconscious in the courtyard; the perpetrator is suspected to be Zolo (escaped captive). The chapter hides the actual attacker’s identity for the next chapter’s reveal.
- The Arlong Pirates suspect Nami of freeing Zolo / sabotaging the crew (page 17). The Nami-loyalty-inversion seed is on-page from the Arlong-Pirates side — the Coco-Village side (Ch. 70-72) has called Nami a witch; the Arlong-Pirates side now suspects her of treachery. The Ch. 70 two-contradictory-reputations doubles into a third-axis-suspicion-from-her-own-faction.
- Buggy’s Crew After The Battle Part 26 — full reunion cover (page 1). Buggy + Mohji + Mystery Woman in a unified-lineup. The cover-arc graduates to shared-crew-lineup tier.
Foreshadowing seeds planted
Payoffs (seeds from earlier chapters that resolve here)
Mentions / appearances
- Hatchan — second appearance (after Ch. 69). Arlong Park front-entrance gatekeeper / Momoo-handler / first-mate. Reveals: cannot tell humans apart from fishmen; self-identifies as a cuddly octopus fishman; ferries Sanji into Coco Village without realizing Sanji is the long-nosed stranger’s ally. Returns to Arlong Park at chapter end to find his crew massacred.
- Sanji — second arc-action as a Straw Hat (after Ch. 69 lunch-cooking debut). First named attack: Collier (page 11). First on-page combat-action: kicks Momoo into the water (pages 11-12). First on-page comic-interlude with a fishman (Hatchan). Disembarks in Coco Village hunting long-nose (Usopp). Uses saw-nose as villain-epithet for Arlong.
- Luffy — first joint combat with Sanji. Defends the boat’s food from Momoo with Gum-Gum Pistol (page 8). Joins the comic-relief register: ‘I WORKED UP AN APPETITE.’ / ‘HOORAY! LET’S EAT!!’ (page 13).
- Johnny / Yosaku — continuing expository-courier role. Yosaku gets bitten by Momoo (page 9). Johnny’s reaction-shots are the chapter’s audience-surrogate register.
- Usopp — off-page but referenced (page 5, Hatchan: ‘There’s some long-nosed stranger running around.’; page 5 Hatchan: ‘Arlong went to Coco Village to capture him!!’) — the chapter installs that Arlong has gone after Usopp in Coco Village, off-page. Sanji’s mid-chapter pivot is to go rescue Usopp.
- Arlong — off-page but heavily referenced. ‘But Lord Arlong isn’t here right now.’ (Hatchan, page 5). ‘Arlong went to Coco Village to capture him!!’ (Hatchan, page 5). Sanji’s saw-nose epithet (page 14). The chapter’s Arlong-in-Coco-Village-off-page register sets up the next chapter’s confrontation.
- Nami — off-page but suspected by the Arlong Pirates of treachery (page 17 — ‘MAYBE NAMI SMUGGLED HIM IN HERE…’ / ‘NAMI’S ATTITUDE WAS STRANGE TODAY.’ / ‘SHE DID SAVE ZOLO WHEN HE JUMPED IN THE WATER’). The chapter compounds the Nami-loyalty-axis with a third-side suspicion.
- Zoro — off-page but suspected of being the Arlong-Park massacre attacker (page 16: ‘RORONOA ZOLO?!’). The Arlong-Pirates ‘HE WAS OUR CAPTIVE’ line confirms Zoro was held captive between Ch. 72 and Ch. 73. The escaped-Zolo grammar is set up for the next-chapter reveal.
- Buggy / Mohji / Alvida — cover-only (page 1). Cover Part 26: ‘Sorry to keep you waiting!!’ Reunion lineup.
- Arlong Pirates — on-page (pages 2-5: Hatchan; pages 15-17: courtyard massacre + remaining crew members). The crew is at low strength — most of the courtyard members are unconscious; Hatchan + a handful of named remain.
- Buggy Pirates — cover-only (page 1).
- Straw Hat Pirates — Luffy + Sanji on the boat; Zoro/Usopp/Nami all off-page in separate locations. Crew is at maximum-dispersion of the East Blue arc.
- Going Merry — off-page this chapter; the small skiff is the chapter’s transport.
- Arlong Park — primary location (pages 2-5: front entrance; pages 15-17: interior courtyard, massacred).
- Coco Village — primary location (page 14: Sanji arrives, walks empty streets).
- Grand Line — referenced as the origin of Momoo (page 7). The Grand-Line-as-tier-reference register continues.
- Fish-Men — Hatchan’s race; the Arlong Pirates’ racial composition is on-page in the courtyard wide-pan.

The footnote is the chapter’s meta-tell — Oda is announcing the convention to the reader.
- Page 12 — Sanji’s Coup completes the attack + Momoo defeated: KABAM!!! / …COUP!!! — Sanji’s full attack-name: Collier … Coup (neck cut). Luffy/Johnny in close-up reaction: ‘WHOA!!’ / ‘STUPID HIPPO!’ Momoo’s MOOOOOO… off-panel as it falls.

RORONOA ZOLO?!’ — close-up of one fishman crew member, sunglasses-and-fanged. Tier-2: ‘HE DIDN’T COME…WE BROUGHT HIM!!’ — ‘THE ONE IN THE SASH!! THAT WAS ZOLO!!!’ / ‘HE WAS OUR CAPTIVE…!!’ — the chapter retroactively confirms that the one in the sash (the bound figure from end of Ch. 72) was Zolo. Tier-3: another fishman (background): ‘WANNA CUT HIS THROAT? IT’LL CHEER YOU UP!’ (re: Zolo, SMEK ACK! ACK! — suspended).
- Page 17 — Nami-loyalty-suspicion seed: tier-1: Hatchan deciding mood: ‘IN THE MOOD I’M IN, I DON’T KNOW…’ — ‘RIGHT!! THEN I’LL JUST BE GOING!!’ (Hatchan exits.) Forward-payoff is the entire Arlong-arc resolution.
- Page 18 — Question Corner (SBS-like): Q: This is spirit, right? — A: Yes, you show true spirit. / Three-warlords-of-Japan haiku question — Oda’s answer is ‘If the cuckoo won’t sing, buy me a cola.’ / Shaved-head Zolo-emulation question — Oda’s ‘Stand up!! … When your hair grows back, challenge that barber again!!’
Open questions raised
- Who actually beat up the Arlong Pirates in the courtyard? The Arlong Pirates’ first guess is Zolo (escaped captive). The reader knows Zolo was just bound and dropped in the water by Yosaku/Johnny in Ch. 70 — but the chapter establishes he was subsequently captured by the Arlong Pirates between Ch. 72 and Ch. 73 (page 16 — ‘HE WAS OUR CAPTIVE…!!’). The actual answer is held off-page for the next chapter.
- Did Nami actually free Zolo? The Arlong Pirates’ second guess is Nami-as-traitor (page 17). The chapter holds whether the suspicion is correct off-page — the seed is the suspicion itself, not the answer.
- Where is Zolo now? Page 16 — ‘HE WAS OUR CAPTIVE’ implies past-tense. Zolo has escaped (or is escaping); chapter holds his on-page location for next-chapter reveal.
- What is Arlong doing in Coco Village? Page 5: ‘Arlong went to Coco Village to capture him [Usopp]!!’ — the chapter installs Arlong-in-Coco-Village as the next chapter’s primary setting and confrontation-pivot.
- What other Grand-Line creatures does the Arlong Pirates field? The chapter title is plural (Monsters of the Grand Line) — is Momoo the only one, or are there others in Arlong Park’s interior?
- Why did Hatchan ferry an obvious enemy? The chapter installs racial-recognition-deficit as the answer; the deeper answer is Hatchan is not yet ideologically anti-human in the same way as Arlong. Pre-loads the Hatchan-redeemability arc.
- What is Arlong’s species? The saw-nose / saw-tooth epithet (Sanji p. 14, plus prior Ch. 69 Saw-Tooth Arlong) is converging on sawshark fishman — confirmation pending Arlong’s full species-self-naming.
- Has Alvida been formally re-acquired by Buggy’s crew? The cover Part 26 visual lineup implies yes; in-text confirmation pending Loguetown.
