Ch. 75 page 1 —
FINAL EPISODE: ‘Oh, Captain, My Captain!’ — the cover-story arc closes
The 20+-installment Buggy cover-story tour (Parts 1-22+ across Ch. 36-67+) resolves in a triumphant unified-crew tableau . Composition: Buggy in massive heroic fist-raised pose, fur-trimmed captain’s coat, surrounded by cheering crew (Cabaji visible left, Mohji mid-background, Alvida-coded female right) over broken treasure-barrels and a WANTED poster. The cover-arc resolves in captain-restoration register — Buggy is restored as captain after the interim-leadership-vacuum arc (Parts 16-22). The title (‘Oh, Captain, My Captain!’ ) is a direct Walt Whitman quote (1865, on Lincoln’s assassination) — Oda’s first overt-literary-quote-as-cover-title in the series. The Whitman quote’s death-elegy subtext is ironically inverted — Buggy is alive and triumphant. The cover-story arc is operationally completed for the Buggy crew; this is the first full long-arc cover-story payoff in the series.
Ch. 73 — Part 26: lineup-stabilized tier
The cover-arc reaches stabilized-crew tier — the post-defeat survival register graduates to reformation-with-alliances . Cover-line “Sorry to keep you waiting” is Buggy addressing the reader: the cover-arc is coming back to active service after the hiatus.
Ch. 58 page 1 — Part 17
“Intense 12-Hour Battle” : silhouette mystery + crew-reunion signal
The 17th installment shows Buggy in tricorn facing a checkered-cloaked silhouette (likely Mohji), with a bear-or-lion creature carrying an injured Richie-figure in the mid-distance. The cover composition signals a reunion-with-crew payload in the next 1-3 cover installments — the cover-story B-plot is approaching its Buggy-rejoins-his-crew beat. Ch. 48 — Part 10:
‘Farewell to Friends’ (Buggy paddles solo raft away from castaway companions, ‘SHYAAAA!!’)
Page 1 cover splash. Buggy in tricorn, mustache, red-nose silhouette, in a tiny single-occupant raft with two oars and a striped sail-mast affixed. He screams ‘SHYAAAA!!’ as he rows away from a small group of figures visible on a distant beach. The 10-part cover-comic series tracks Buggy’s post-Bazooka survival from Ch. 36 onward; Part 10’s farewell-to-friends beat suggests the cover-story is approaching its in-text payoff (likely Buggy reuniting with his crew or with Alvida in the following arcs). The chapter title (‘STEER CLEAR’) and cover line (‘Farewell to Friends’) echo each other.
Ch. 54 — Part 14:
“Pirate Alliance” (inter-captain alliance installment)
Page 1 cover splash. The cover-story B-plot’s Part 14 introduces an inter-captain alliance (Buggy + Alvida sharing wine on a heart-sailed ship) as the latest installment of the long-running cover-story arc. Ch. 46 — Part 8 cover splash instalment
Continuous tracking of Buggy’s post-Bazooka adventures; pattern of Buggy-vs-fauna slapstick stays consistent (forest duel here, prior instalments showed games-of-wits with ducks etc.). The cover-story-as-serialized-B-plot pattern is now eight installments deep and persisting across arc boundaries (Orange Town → Syrup Village → Baratie). The structural commitment is durable.
Ch. 36 — page 1 (cover-story splash)
Splash page caption: “BUGGY’S CREW: AFTER THE BATTLE! PART TWO: MOHJI AND CABAJI.”
Composition: Cabaji on his unicycle carrying unconscious half-naked Mohji over his shoulder; Richie the lion limps bandaged at their side; wrecked Orange Town street with a smashed Buggy Pirates jolly-roger banner.
The word PART TWO implies a Part One exists in a prior chapter (likely Ch. 21-35; not yet indexed in this vault). The numbered-parts naming reveals that Oda is using the cover-story slot as a serialized, chronologically-ordered B-plot continuation rather than as standalone fan-service art.
Why it matters
The cover-story slot has been used previously (cover characters, single-image splashes) but the Part Two caption is the first explicit serialization marker in this vault’s chapter index . Treats the cover-story as its own canon channel:
Tracks off-screen characters between main-arc appearances.Confirms survival of arc villains beyond their defeat (Mohji, Cabaji, Richie are all alive 13+ chapters after Orange Town).Costume + aesthetic carry over — circus-theme intact (pays off Buggy Crew As Circus ).Survival asymmetry visible : Cabaji is upright and transporting; Mohji is unconscious; Richie is limping. Reading rule for the vault : cover-story pages are not skippable fan-service. They are serialized B-plot canon with chronological ordering — track them as a separate channel. The PART TWO marker is the operational instruction to the reader.
