Firsts
  • Caesar Clown names his new weapon of mass destruction: 'Land of the Dead' — the artificial gas-creature Smiley reformed and supercharged into 'a perfect killing machine'
  • Smiley is 'an incarnation of the toxic H2S [hydrogen-sulfide] gas'; Caesar used Smiley to kill Punk Hazard once, four years ago — the flaw last time was that poisoned victims could still evacuate in a weakened state
  • Caesar feeds Smiley an 'enormous meal of special food' (a giant candy ball) so its toxic gas gains a lethal added effect — the fragmented 'Smiles' coalesce from the burning side back to the center of the icy side to reunite into the whole Smiley
  • Caesar broadcasts the live demonstration to underworld 'criminal brokers around the New World' via a wall video Den Den Mushi — and sacrifices his own gas-suited soldiers as the test subjects
  • Vergo physically holds and crushes the heart Caesar took from Law as collateral; Caesar reveals Monet shape-shifted to shadow Law and overheard his entire plan
  • Luffy is amazed Law is still alive with his heart removed — 'they have your heart, and you're still ALIVE?!' — and Caesar gloats 'I've got it RIGHT HEEERE!'
  • Vergo, frightened of the captured Smoker's presence ('I broke out in a cold sweat when I saw that Smoker was here'), is shown as Caesar's enforcer commanding his own men
  • The captive child Mocha refuses the drugged 'candy' despite withdrawal and flees the lab through a high door/window rather than return — the first child to break the addiction-control
  • Smiley melts Caesar's dragon-sled with a chemical and devours one of Vegapunk's small dragons

Summary

Caesar Clown unveils his masterwork to a hidden audience of New-World underworld brokers watching by video Den Den Mushi: the gas-creature Smiley, an incarnation of the toxic H₂S gas with which he once killed Punk Hazard four years ago, reformed from its fragmented “Smiles” and force-fed an enormous “special food” until it becomes “a perfect killing machine” he names “Land of the Dead.” As the new weapon bears down on the icy side, Caesar coldly orders his own gas-suited soldiers — the live test subjects of the demonstration — to run and to strip off the suits that won’t save them. In the lab, Vergo crushes the heart Caesar extracted from Law as collateral while Caesar reveals that Monet shape-shifted to shadow Law and overheard his whole plan; a captive Luffy marvels that Law is alive without his heart, and a captured Smoker demands to know where his heart is. Meanwhile the drugged children are herded back toward the “biscuits room,” but Mocha, terrified, refuses her candy and throws herself out of a high door to escape rather than go back. Smiley melts the lab’s dragon-sled, devours one of Vegapunk’s small dragons, and surges after the fleeing soldiers as Caesar happily welcomes his old weapon home.
