Chapter 419: Legend of a Hero

Firsts
  • ⭐ Spandam reveals on-page to Robin that his FATHER was Director Spandine — 'the man who was Director of CP9 at the time... the one who exposed your mother's crime and gave the signal for the Buster Call... was my father Spandine!!' This explicitly confirms the Spandine→Spandam father-son link previously only IMPLIED by the shared surname, and ties the present-day CP9 villain directly to the Ohara genocide of 20 years ago
  • Spandam frames his hunt for Robin as an inherited mission — his father placed the bounty on the 8-year-old Robin's head, and now 'I, his son, have hunted the girl that got away'; he set foot on Ohara, 'land of demons,' to finish the job via the Buster Call
  • Robin's mother Olvia (Nico Olvia) is named on-page in Spandam's taunt; the deserter 'traitorous giant' (Saul) is referenced as erased with Ohara, and Robin thinks the name 'Saul'
  • Robin, dragged toward the Gates of Justice, screams the loaded reversal of her earlier death-wish — 'BUT YOU'RE GOING TO DIE!! ...I'M STILL ALIVE!!!' — the I-want-to-live arc beat, charged with Olvia's 'Live, Robin!'
  • The Gates of Justice are thrown WIDE OPEN to admit the Navy warships for the Buster Call barrage — the first time the gates are shown fully open, contradicting Kokoro's belief that they 'would never fully open'
  • Spandam trips his own pre-set land mine at the top of the bridge stairs; the blast (ROKOFF / DOOM) engulfs the bridge with Franky carrying Robin through it ('Franky's gone... to save Robin')
  • Franky (Cutty Flam) survives the land mine because he is made of steel ('A land mine won't work, Spanda... I'm strong, 'cause I'm made of steel'), shielding Robin
  • Sogeking / Sniper King snipes Spandam and his guards from atop the Tower with declared '100 percent accuracy' across a windswept gap to cover Robin's escape
  • Sanji relays via Den Den Mushi that Nami found two more keys in a bundle of red cloth; combined with the keys already gathered, the Straw Hats now hold ALL the keys to Robin's cuffs ('SPECIAL DELIVERY') — cut to a worried Lucci ('This doesn't look good')

Summary

The Gates of Justice slam wide open — not to let anyone out, but to let the Navy warships in for the Buster Call barrage that will erase Enies Lobby and everyone left on it. As Luffy and Lucci’s distant duel rumbles on (Luffy: “I didn’t think you had this much power”; Lucci: “I was careless”), Director Spandam drags the sea-prism-chained Nico Robin up the bridge stairs toward the gates, taunting her that no one will save her and that the Buster Call will “even erase the shame” of pirates firing on the WG’s sacred flag — “just as we erased that traitorous giant at Ohara 20 years ago!” The taunt lands as a confession: Spandam reveals his father was Director Spandine, the man who exposed Olvia’s crime and gave the signal for the Ohara Buster Call, and that he himself set foot on the “land of demons” and has hunted the one child who escaped ever since. Robin, summoning the memory of Saul and her mother, answers the death sentence with the arc’s loaded reversal — “BUT YOU’RE GOING TO DIE!! …I’M STILL ALIVE!!!” Spandam then trips his own land mine at the top of the stairs; the blast (ROKOFF / DOOM) tears through the bridge with Franky carrying Robin through it. Franky walks out of the smoke unharmed, shielding Robin — “A land mine won’t work, Spanda… I’m strong, ‘cause I’m made of steel.” As Spandam’s guards scramble, Sogeking opens fire from atop the Tower of Justice, sniping Spandam and the guards with impossible accuracy across the windswept gap to cover Robin’s escape. Sanji radios through the Den Den Mushi that Nami found two more keys in a bundle of red cloth — the Straw Hats now hold every key to Robin’s cuffs (“SPECIAL DELIVERY”) — and the chapter closes on a worried Lucci: “This doesn’t look good.”
