Ace Great Search For Blackbeard Cover Serial Loads Marineford
Status: pending · Technique: cover-story-payoff + parallel-arc-structure
Confidence: high (the manhunt is on-cover-explicit; only the precise payoff
chapter is forward-canon / uncaptured)
The seed
A counted cover serial on the Skypiea-arc title pages, image-verified across four
chapters, shows Ace literally hunting Blackbeard
through port towns — played entirely for comedy.
Ch. 305 p. 1 —
FINAL VOLUME: “In the Name of Pirates.”
The serial concludes. Ace, seated before his Whitebeard-crest jolly roger, has not caught Blackbeard but vows to keep hunting him. The cover B-plot ends here and threads directly into the forward-canon Ace-vs-Blackbeard collision. The full Vol. 2 → Vol. 28 → FINAL run (Ch. 0273–0305) is logged in Aces-Great-Search-for-Blackbeard .
This is the resumed, re-titled phase of the earlier “Short-Term Cover Series No. 4:
Escapee” run (Ch. 0177–0182) — see Aces-Adventures . The cover
serial is now concluded on-cover (@0305) ; only the main-plot payoff
(Banaro → Marineford) remains forward / uncaptured, so this entry stays pending.
Ch. 434 p. 20 — the cover-serial chase enters the main narrative
The cover-serial search pays into the main narrative: Ace arrives at Blackbeard (Teach)‘s ship and confronts him directly (“I’ve been looking for you!”) — the hinge that loads the Marineford war. (status stays pending — Banaro and Marineford are forward.)
Ch. 440 — the cover-B-plot collides with main canon
The “Ace’s Great Search for Blackbeard” cover serial pays into the main story here: Ace catches Blackbeard at Banaro Island (pp. 11–19). The Banaro collision is on-page; the Marineford payoff the serial pre-loads is still forward. (PARTIAL — leave status: pending until Marineford.)
What it pays off
Cover comedy now → tragedy later
The on-cover manhunt is the set-up half of the series’ most consequential
cover→main payoff. In hard main canon Ace catches Blackbeard at Banaro
Island (Ch. 440 ), loses , is captured, and his scheduled execution
triggers the Marineford / Summit War (~Ch. 0550+) and his death. The
lighthearted “wrong person / thrown in the river” register is deliberate
dramatic irony in hindsight.
Payoff is forward-canon / uncaptured
Frontier of the current vault read is Ch. 0277. The Banaro and Marineford
chapters are not yet read in . status: pending; no payoff_chapter set .
When those chapters are captured, re-key the
Aces-Great-Search-for-Blackbeard note to
merged-into-main-plot, set payoff_chapter: [[Chapters/0440]], and promote
this entry’s status. (Caribou → Wano is the precedent template.)
