Summary

Cover-splash + title-page (pp. 1-2): Chapter 147: FRAUDS — Dr. Kureha (cackling, hat thrown skyward), Sanji (mid-leap, backpacked), and Nami (arms raised, fully recovered) bound across a grassy plain in unison; behind them Luffy and Usopp sprint flat-out. This is the foremost law of the land!!!’ Then he notices the small black pirate-flag on the castle roof — ‘That quack doctor’s flag must come down!!! Bighorn (pp. 13-15). Vivi (sweating, panicked): ‘And Nami’s fever was so high! What if Wapol went up there!? And Dr. Kureha may have come home!! We have to help them!! … Usopp!! Mr. Bushido!! Let’s go up that mountain!!!’ Usopp (sweating, fake-bravado): ‘Calm down, Vivi. You worry too much!!! I have faith in them!! She’s in good hands!! … You’re afraid to go up the mountain, huh?’ Vivi (chastened): ‘You’re right… It’s important to have faith in your friends. Thank you, Usopp.’ The thawed Dalton sits up despite his wounds (SWUMP!!) and declares insurrection: ‘If we don’t fight now, then when will we!? We must fight him now or live as slaves!!! … I’m going to fight, whatever the cost!!! Even if I have to become a villain myself!!!’ Then to Vivi: ‘Get on my back!!! I’ll carry you… to the castle!!!’ (DA-DOOM!!!)

Castle climax (pp. 16-18). Wapol cackles atop the castle ramparts (WOOOOOOOOO MWA HA HA HA HA!). Luffy, Sanji, and Chopper watch — the camera lingers on Chopper’s blank-eyed reaction frame — as the quack doctor’s flag is blasted off the castle (WOOOOOOOO). Luffy: ‘The pirate flag…’ Sanji: ’?’ Luffy: ‘Hey, reindeer, that flag…’ Chopper’s face goes still. Wapol (above): ‘Fools. Kill them!!’ — Wapol’s cannon-arm fires (WHAP!! KAPLOMP!!) and a memory pours through Chopper: a Hiriluk flashback (the X-marked-hat doctor, smiling, tall): ‘But don’t blame all humans. This country is sick now.’ Chopper steps forward and addresses Wapol directly: ‘I won’t hurt you… But leave this country forever!!!’ Dr. Kureha (offscreen, furious): ‘You can’t reason with him!! What are you saying, Chopper!?’

Back-matter (p. 19). SBS Volume 16 — Question Corner opens. Some Small Mistakes Corner: Oda admits ‘Tony Tony Chopper’ in the first printing of Vol 16 is a typo — Chopper’s name should be TonyTony Chopper (no space). Reader/Oda SBS will now begin gag. Oda gloss on Oh Come My Way (‘it’s a place where people who have come out go to walk… I think it exists anywhere’). A reader notices that the Warriors of Elbaph (Dorry and Brogy’s giants) wear a Celtic horned helmet and a Swedish Vendel Period helmet; Oda confirms — ‘the inspiration for the Warriors of Elbaph, the tribe of giants, was my favorite pirates of the north, the Vikings’.

Open questions raised

Who is the quack doctor whose flag flies above Drum Castle? Named on p. 5 only as one quack doctor; the flashback on p. 18 shows him in the X-marked-cross hat. Not yet proper-named Hiriluk on-page in dialogue.
What happened to Hiriluk? The doctors’ line ‘taught us never to give up hope’ (past tense) and the don’t blame all humans, this country is sick now doctrine both imply a fate not yet shown. The flashback’s walking-away-from-the-hut composition is a tell.
How does Chopper know Hiriluk? Chopper’s reaction-frame at the flag’s destruction and his sudden I won’t hurt you… but leave this country forever are not yet motivated on-page. The Chopper-as-Hiriluk’s-heir backstory is set up but not delivered.
Will Chopper’s negotiation work? Kureha says it won’t — but Chopper is acting on Hiriluk’s doctrine. The clash between the country is sick mercy-ethic and Wapol’s defies-the-king-shall-die doctrine is now the chapter’s central question.
