Former Drum Kingdom Evil Magistrate · alive · Tin Tyrant Pirates
Profile
One of Wapol’s two surviving officers in the Tin Tyrant Pirates — the burly afro-haired figure with pom-poms, captioned on-page as the Former Drum Kingdom Evil Magistrate. Serves as Wapol’s enforcer alongside the slim archer Chess. He appears from Ch. 131 (defending Wapol mid-meal during the attack on the Going Merry) but is not named on-page until Ch. 135 — the chapter that finally captions Wapol’s two officers as a pair.
Arc-by-arc updates
Drum Island (Ch. 152) — arrives at Drum Castle after Wapol’s launch, finds the kingdom-seat already changed hands
- Climbs the ropeway to the castle moments after Luffy launches Wapol (pp. 6-7). Arrives with Chess expecting to back up Wapol; instead, finds the Straw Hats and the village delegation in command of the castle. “So that thing that flew across the sky earlier was Wapol!!?” (p. 7) — confirms the launch was visible from the castle base.
- Final on-panel appearance of the Drum arc — dispatches from the chapter without a fight. Wapol’s officers retire from the story without further demonstration.
Drum Island (Ch. 149) — first sustained combat scene; archer-shooter combat grammar
- First on-page extended combat scene — fights Chopper as ranged support alongside Wapol at Drum Castle.
- Named techniques debut:
- Marimo’s Snow-Melting Arrow — flaming pom-pom projectile (p. 5)
- Marimo’s Super Surprise — pom-pom launcher counter (pp. 5, 11)
- Snow-Slicing Blade — slicing-blade salvo that cracks the castle wall (p. 12, SWISH SWISH SWISH)
- Multi-Directional Snow Splitter — three blades fanning out (p. 13, WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH)
- The afro-pom-pom-figure register is now confirmed as a weaponized combat mode — pom-poms double as throwable projectiles and concealed blades. Confirms the Marimo (Japanese moss-ball) etymology as a combat-style: spherical-on-throw, blade-on-release.
Drum Island (Ch. 148) — mocks Chopper as the abominable snowman
- At Drum Castle with Wapol (pp. 6, 11-17). Mocks Chopper (pp. 14-15) for defending the doctor’s flag — KAK KAK KAK — “That snot-nosed kid… lay a finger on King Wapol!!”.
- Names Chopper as the abominable snowman the people used to fear (p. 15) — “You poor thing. I bet you’ve led a lonely life, despised by everyone, ehr? You must be the abominable snowman the people used to fear. But you’re a strange creature. So why risk your life for them!!? What a laugh!!!” — canonizes Chopper as the Drum Island yeti-folklore figure and frames the chapter’s despised-outcast emotional climax.
- Sent flying with Wapol and Chess by Luffy’s SHABAM!!! (p. 17).
- Back in independent-body form. The Ch. 147 Chessmarimo fusion has been undone off-page between chapters.
Drum Island (Ch. 147) — eaten and fused into Chessmarimo
- Wapol swallows Kuromarimo whole via Munch-Munch Factory (p. 9, KRUNCH!! KRACH!! K-RUNCH!!). Kuromarimo and Chess are eaten alive as the Factory-input — the chapter’s king-eats-his-own-men cannibal-grammar (villagers cry ‘CANNIBAL!!! HE’S EATING HIS OWN MEN!!!’).
- Wapol fuses Chess and Kuromarimo into Chessmarimo (pp. 10-11) — Kuromarimo’s afro/pom-pom heads ride piggyback stacked on top of the Chess-bodied composite. ‘I am… the mightiest warrior in Drum Kingdom…!!!’ First on-page Devil-Fruit-induced multi-being fusion in the series. Kuromarimo is still alive but no longer in independent-body form.
- See Baku Baku no Mi, Chessmarimo Officer-Fusion Two-Into-One Beat, Wapol Eats His Own Men Cannibal-King Beat.
Drum Island (Ch. 146) — Marimo’s Static Cling named; combat-grammar revealed
- First on-page combat-technique. Marimo’s Static Cling!!! (pp. 10-12, 17) — launches detachable black hair-pom-poms (WHOOSH / SHOOM / FWIP) that stick to opponents and cannot be pulled off (“It won’t come off!! What’s with this stuff!?”). He has many on his body (“And I’ve got lots more.”) and adds “spins” in a later launch (p. 17). The throwing hair surface-grammar literalizes his name — marimo (round Japanese algae-balls) + kuro (black). See Marimos Static Cling Kuromarimo Hair-Projectile Named.
- Hair is extremely flammable — designed as a stick-and-burn combo with Chess’s flaming-arrow archery (p. 14).
- Gets Air-Assault-kicked off the castle wall with Wapol when Luffy slingshots forward (pp. 17-18).
- Articulates Luffy’s body to Sanji: “Basically, he’s a monster.” (p. 7).
Drum Island (Ch. 142) — flashback; Bailiff, Drum Kingdom under King Wapol
- First on-page reveal of Kuromarimo’s pre-deposition rank: caption p. 5 — KUROMARIMO — BAILIFF, DRUM KINGDOM. Distinct from the Ch. 135 post-deposition caption (Former Drum Kingdom Evil Magistrate). Kuromarimo was Wapol’s law-enforcement-and-judicial official while Wapol was king.
- Backs the iron-fist doctrine in Wapol’s drawing-room (p. 5): “You think too much!!” / “That’s right!! Now drink!!”
Drum Island (Ch. 138) — Snow Powder Makeup technique debut
- First on-page Kuromarimo technique — Snow Powder Makeup / Snow Country Attraction (pp. 5, 7). Kuromarimo hurls his afro-pom-poms as detachable ranged projectiles (WHUP) that aerosolize the snowfield into a blinding white concealment cloud (SHOOM / SHWOO). Wapol echoes the doctrine: “This is snow country combat. The white mantle!!! SNOW POWDER MAKEUP!!!” (p. 7). See Kuromarimo Snow Powder Makeup Pom-Pom Projectile Debut.
- Provokes Luffy to fight despite the no-combat-around-Nami rule (p. 4): “HMPH!! Running won’t save you, coward!!!” — the taunt is what triggers Luffy’s one-punch beat at Wapol.
- Pursuit-cut-off by the Lapin pack (pp. 8-10) — his pom-pom throw strikes the Lapins instead of the Straw Hats; he orders “Don’t let him get away!!!” but the Lapins block pursuit. See Lapins Recognize Luffy Strange-Creature-Recognition Beat.
Drum Island (Ch. 137) — flees the avalanche on Robson
- Mounts Robson with Wapol and Chess to flee the avalanche (p. 14). Named in Wapol’s command: “Let’s get out of here!! Get on!! Chess!! Kuromarimo!!”. See Wapol King Who Abandoned His People.
Drum Island (Ch. 136) — Three Officers reveal, exposits past peer-history
- Reports on the Straw Hats (p. 6) — informs Wapol they’re headed for Drum Castle and that Dr. Kureha has occupied the castle. The first on-page intelligence-officer beat for Kuromarimo.
- Flatters Wapol (p. 5) — the tyrant-flattery dynamic — Wapol: “Tell me why I am so great, Kuromarimo!!”; Kuromarimo: “Because you are King Wapol, your majesty!!”
- Punches Dalton in the head (p. 9) after the regicide attempt — WHUP — “How dare you attack King Wapol!!!” Demonstrated as a brawler-class fighter in addition to his Magistrate role.
- Reveals the Three Officers past-peer history on-page (p. 15): “Once we were equals. They called us the ‘three officers.’ You have no chance against the two of us… We’ve known each other a long time!! Unfortunately for you. Because we know your weaknesses!!!” — the load-bearing exposition line of the chapter; converts Dalton from a sympathetic civilian-guard captain into a fallen-peer who turned on his fellow officers. See Drum Three Officers Past Peer-Trio Reveal.
- Renounces Dalton’s good-king doctrine (p. 15): rebuts Dalton’s “A country whose king runs off at the first sign of danger is better off without him!!!” line — “I’m sick of you people!!” Establishes Kuromarimo as ideologically aligned with Wapol’s tyranny, not opportunistically following him.
Drum Island (Ch. 135) — named on-page
- First named on-page — formally introduced by caption-box as Wapol’s Former Drum Kingdom Evil Magistrate (p. 15): a burly figure with an afro and pom-poms.
- With Wapol’s other officer Chess (Former Drum Kingdom Evil Chief-of-Staff), reports tracking footprints leading from the Straw Hats’ ship toward Bighorn (pp. 14-15). The two are established as Wapol’s surviving enforcer-pair.
Drum Island (Ch. 131) — appears unnamed
- Appears in Ch. 131 as Wapol’s afro-haired second retainer — defends Wapol mid-meal during the attack on the Going Merry and overpowers the Straw Hats’ first counterattack (“They’re all show…”, p. 15). Not named on-page in Ch. 131; recorded as the unnamed afro-haired retainer until his Ch. 135 caption-naming.
Notes
- Appears unnamed from Ch. 131; first named on-page in Ch. 135 (p. 15) via caption-box.
first_appearance/first_mentionedare reconciled to the earliest chapter he is on-page (Ch. 131) rather than the chapter he is named — consistent with the Chess note, which records the same Ch. 131 first-appearance for the parallel officer. - The Ch. 134 reader proposed creating this character as Kuromarimo, but he was not named on-page until Ch. 135; the deferred note is created here.
