Why this matters
Wapol is the first negative-template bad king in the Alabasta saga, pre-loading the saga’s central good-king/bad-king axis: Cobra the good king (who would die for his people) vs. Crocodile’s false-king coup (a manufactured civil war). Wapol is the small-scale negative-template version introduced first. Vivi’s visceral horror here defines, in negative, the princess-mandate she carries through the rest of the saga — she articulates what a king must be by recoiling from what Wapol is. Forward-pattern: the Drum arc resolves with Wapol’s defeat and the kingdom re-founded under a better ruler.
