  • Gin Order To Kill Sanji Loyalty Test
  • **Gin's rank canonized as 'Battle Commander of the Pirate Armada'** (page 2). Krieg states the title directly: *'I named you Battle Commander of my pirate armada.'* This overwrites the earlier Ch. 45 *Pirate-at-Arms* label — Gin's actual rank is **Battle Commander** (the same role-name Pearl held in Ch. 60 page 3, suggesting *Battle Commander* may be a tier-name held by multiple officers, or that Pearl's *battle commander* mention was either a general descriptor or a junior role; Gin's title is for the *armada*). This is a meaningful officer-hierarchy clarification: Gin is **the** Battle Commander of the *armada* (the 50-ship fleet), positioning him as Krieg's second-in-command across the *entire* fleet, not just one ship.
  • **Gin's strikes Krieg directly** (pages 8-10) — first on-page act of *physical* aggression against Krieg by a Krieg-Pirates member. When Krieg orders *'Drop that mask!!!'* (page 7) and prepares to fire the MH5, Gin **fires his tonfa-clubs** at Krieg with a *'FWOOSH!! WIP!! BOOM BOOM BOOM!!'* — direct attack on the captain. Krieg shoots his shoulder-cannons back (*'OUTTA THE WAY!!! You won't hit me again!!'* page 8) — confirming Gin **already hit Krieg before** (likely off-page or in an implied earlier moment). Gin is hit and goes down (*'SKREK SKREK SKREK / FWUMP!!'*). Krieg (page 9, kicking down at Gin): *'I'd have killed you even if you hadn't interfered!! Anchor boy!!!'* — Krieg confirms his intention to kill Luffy was independent of Gin's refusal. The Ch. 60 spiked-mace silhouette **swings** here — Krieg's mace shatters into the Baratie deck (*'KRAK!!!'* page 9; *'SPLAS!! WAAH! It's going under!'* page 9 bottom — a Baratie cook is hit into the water). The Luffy-Krieg duel-frame is **partially activated** but interrupted by the MH5 deployment.
  • **Krieg disowns Gin from the crew on-page** (page 6): *'You are no longer part of this crew.'* — direct expulsion-line. Followed immediately by *'Drop your gas mask, Gin!'* The expulsion-line is the verbal companion to the Ch. 49 *terror-loyalty axiom*: those who refuse the captain's principles are **removed from the crew by execution-by-WMD**. The Krieg crew themselves are *shocked* (*'But... Don Krieg... Aye, nobody ever served him as loyally as Gin. Gin's Don Krieg's right hand! You're addled!! He wouldn't go that far!! The Don's gonna kill Gin!!'* page 6 — the crew explicitly registers that this is a *break with even the Krieg-Pirates' own norms*). The chapter installs a new doctrine: **the loyalty-bond is conditional on terror-compliance, and the Captain will kill his own right-hand officer for mercy**. The Ch. 49 *shoot-the-cowardly-crewman* doctrine is here **escalated** to *gas-the-most-loyal-officer*.
  • **Gin's backstory revealed via Krieg crew witnesses** (page 7) — first on-page Krieg-crew historical recollection. Page 7's flashback panel shows the Krieg flagship (now whole, mast intact) being pursued by Marine ships flying the **Iron-Fist Fullbody flag**: *'Ironfist Fullbody's squadron was chasing us... We had just escaped from the Grand Line... And Commander Gin disguised himself as the Don, and acted as a decoy! Remember that time!?'* / *'Aye, he always executed the Don's orders with demonic ferocity!'* / *'He's put his life on the line many times for Don Krieg.'* / *'How could the Don kill a man like that!?'* This is the **first canonical Gin-backstory beat**: Gin *physically disguises himself as Krieg* to draw enemy fire and protect his captain. It also retroactively explains the Ch. 4-44 **Iron-Fist Fullbody** subplot — Fullbody (the early-Ch. 4 Marine officer) was *pursuing Krieg's flagship after Krieg's Grand-Line escape*. The Fullbody-as-Krieg-pursuer thread links the Ch. 4 antagonist to the Baratie arc retroactively. **First Marine character to canonically pursue Krieg** is the same one Sanji and Luffy met at the Baratie.

Summary

The chapter opens with the cover splash (page 1) — “Adventures of Ritchie’s Pirate Crew! Part One: ‘The Indigenous Kumate Tribe!’” The Buggy survival cover-story has ended; a new sub-arc begins, starring Ritchie (Buggy’s lion) as captain with Buggy reduced to a thought-bubble overhead. The tribesmen frame Ritchie in primitive striped-robes and feather-headdresses.

The chapter proper opens on the Krieg flagship deck (page 2). Gin kneels before Don Krieg, head bowed. Krieg looms in a full upper-body close-up: “I thought that you, of all my men, would faithfully execute… the principles of Krieg’s pirates. You can’t bring yourself to kill him? You disappoint me, Gin. I believed that you were unsurpassed in these things… because of your strength and ruthlessness in the pursuit of victory. I named you Battle Commander of my pirate armada…” Page 3 — Gin (sweat-soaked, head bowed): “And I thank you. I respect your strength. And I don’t regret anything I’ve done in your service. I’m sorry, I would never betray you. … This one person, I cannot kill!!! … Don Krieg, is there any way… any way at all…” Page 4 (full-face Gin close-up, weeping with sweat): “…that this ship… could possibly be spared!?” The Krieg crew (in horror panels below): “What’s gotten into you, Gin!!?” / “Commander, you stink!!” / “Has Gin lost his mind!!?”“CHONK!!!” Krieg headbutts Gin (page 5, “KLANG!!” — Gin’s body crumpled, the iconic Krieg-emblem cannon-skull on his cape visible). Krieg: “What madness has possessed you!!? It’s inexcusable that you, my most trusted officer, should refuse to obey my order!!! This time it’s for real!! Put your masks on!” “AAAH! The MH5!!” (Krieg crew terrified). Cuts to the Baratie: “These cooks saved all of our lives! Don Krieg!!” / Luffy: “Why, you rotten…” / “A poison gas bomb!!?”

Page 6 — Krieg in close-up, weight-bearing face: “You are no longer part of this crew. Drop your gas mask, Gin!” Gin: “But… Don Krieg…”“WHAT!!?” The Krieg crew murmur in the foreground (Luffy and Sanji visible below): “Aye, nobody ever served him as loyally as Gin. Gin’s Don Krieg’s right hand! You’re addled!! He wouldn’t go that far!! The Don’s gonna kill Gin!!”

Page 7 — flashback: the Krieg flagship (whole, masted) being pursued by Marine warships; the lead Marine flag is Ironfist Fullbody’s. “Ironfist Fullbody’s squadron was chasing us… We had just escaped from the Grand Line… And Commander Gin disguised himself as the Don, and acted as a decoy! Remember that time!?” / “Aye, he always executed the Don’s orders with demonic ferocity!” / “He’s put his life on the line many times for Don Krieg.” / “How could the Don kill a man like that!?” Back to Gin (page 7 bottom): a small “WUP” SFX as Gin’s hand moves to his mask. Then Krieg shouting: “DROP THAT MASK!!!”

Page 8 — explosive cuts. Luffy and Zoro (panel 1, both faces close-up, Luffy alarmed, Zoro neutral). “FWOOSH!!” — Gin throws his tonfa-clubs into projectile-strike at Krieg (page 8 panel 2-3). Krieg: “You think I’d let you shoot that!!?”“WIP!! BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM!!” — Krieg’s shoulder/chest-mounted cannons return fire. “OUTTA THE WAY!!! You won’t hit me again!!” Gin hit by the barrage (“SKREK SKREK SKREK”), tumbles forward (“FWUMP!!”).

Page 9 — Krieg kicks down at the fallen Gin: “I’d have killed you even if you hadn’t interfered!! Anchor boy!!!” Krieg’s spiked-mace swings overhead — “KRAK!!!” — the mace shatters down into the Baratie deck-railing/walkway. A Baratie cook is hit into the water (“SPLASH!!” / “WAAH! It’s going under!”).

Page 10 — Luffy (panel 1): “AAAH!!” and Krieg’s cannons continue (“BOOM BOOM BOOM!!”). “THA-WUMP!!” / “PHEW!” (Luffy ducking the barrage). Then small panels (page 10 bottom): Luffy (gasping at Gin, “Chore boy…” / “I’m gonna clobber him!!!”) and Sanji shouting: “Don’t obey that pansy Krieg! GIN!!”

Page 11 — Krieg (close-up, bandaged eye, panel 1): “Don Krieg is the mightiest man alive. A runt like you could never defeat him.” Luffy: “Don’t belittle Don Krieg!!! Hey, brat!!” Gin (page 11 left bottom, sweating): “I’m a coward who let foolish sentiment get in the way of duty! Of course.” — Sanji rushes to Gin (“WAP”): “Wake up, Gin!!! Your hero’s trying to kill you!!” Gin (head-down, sad): “I deserve to die!!”“SPL… ASH…!” The Krieg flagship’s gun-mount fires.

Page 12 — full upper splash. “MH5!!! DEATHLY POISON GAS BOMB!!! KABOOM!!!” Krieg, gas-masked, fires the actual MH5 round. Page 12 lower panel: the Baratie, viewed from outside, with “WOOOOO” SFX as the gas-cloud arcs toward it. The cooks (small figures): ”!!?”

Page 13 — “KA-CHAK!!” (a cook’s footsteps, panicking). “ARGH!! DIVE DEEP!!” (Krieg crewmen) / “HERE IT COMES!!! PLUMP! WHAP!!” — Krieg crew jump overboard in masks. On the Baratie deck: Sanji’s face, “HUH? OOO!!” — Luffy mid-panic. “WHOOSH!” — Sanji throws something: “Here, you guys!! UNH!! I’m too weak to move. NO!! I’m borrowing these!!”“POP!” Sanji (or someone) seizes a mask, but the registers are confused.

Page 14 — “WHEEEEE” — a small bomb-like projectile arcing. “I need a mask, too!! Huh!? They all went under!! TUMP!! SHHHH” — Sanji running on the deck, in the haze. Luffy (panicked, “KLUNK!!”): “Huh? AAAAH! What am I gonna do!!?”“TOMP TOMP TOMP TOMP” — running. “Chef!! Head aft!!” Then Krieg in his gas mask: “This is military might.” The Baratie’s outline visible behind him through the haze.

Page 15 — “KA-FWOOSHHH!!!” full-page splash. The Baratie engulfed in the poison gas; ”!!!” triple-shocks. Bottom panel: the Krieg flagship in fog, “FSS FSS FSS FSS” dispersal SFX.

Page 16 — Luffy (panel 1, mask on, lying flat): “I’m alive… huff fwoo… Good thing this mask happened to be lying around. huff fwoo…” Page 16 middle: Gin (gas-masked, his own mask still on from the Krieg-flagship deck, where he had defied orders to drop it) walks through the dissipating gas toward the Baratie. Page 16 bottom: Krieg crewmen on the water (huffing, masks on): “These guys are monsters!! What’s the world coming to? Pirates using poison gas? PLOOSH!”

Page 17 — top panel (the Baratie cooks now outside, masks/cloths on faces): “Look, the poisonous fog is clearing. Are Sanji and Chore Boy okay!? It’s been five minutes now.” Middle panel: a wide horizontal panoramic of the Baratie, severely damaged (the “BARATIE” sign visible, with rings of dispersing gas — circle SFX “OOOOO”), the deck pockmarked, gas curling away. Bottom panels: Gin (mask on) grabs Sanji from below (Sanji on his back) — “GET OFF ME!!!” / “GIN!!!”

Page 18 — “GIN!!!” (large upper panel: Gin pinning Sanji on the wreckage, Sanji’s body limp, Luffy small in the distance). “GACK!!!” / “SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE!!” / “PLP PLP” — Sanji’s chest spasms, lung-cough. Luffy (panel right): “Where’s your gas mask!!? Hey!!!” Bottom panels: “BLOOF!!” (a gas-mask popping off) — “GIN!!!” / Luffy: “The mask… You threw your gas mask to me!!? TUNK…” Sanji on his back, dawning horror; Gin slumped in the foreground.

Page 19 — Gin (head bowed, dying register, panel 1): “Well… they say death is the only cure for fools.” Sanji (cigarette, sweating, calm): “The sin of gratitude brought him to this state. And all for a little food.” Krieg (from his ship in the distance, page 19 panel 2, gas mask off, laughing): “HA HA HA!! Ha ha!! What a fool.” Page 19 middle: Sanji (panel left, addressing Gin): “Gin… You made a mistake in choosing to follow that man.” Gin (panel right, with Sanji shaking him “SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE”“D-Don Krieg!!?”) Bottom — full-width: Luffy’s enraged face, fists clenched, scream-marks across the panel: “KRIEG!!!!”

Open questions raised

  • Does Gin survive the chapter? Page 19 shows him being shaken (alive but dying) and responding “D-Don Krieg!!?”alive at chapter-end, fate ambiguous. The Ch. 67-68 prediction is that Gin survives the Baratie arc but in a critical condition (and possibly leaves with the cooks, or stays with the now-defeated Krieg). Forward-question.
  • What is the actual scale of the MH5? The on-page deployment was ship-scale; the village-annihilation boast (Ch. 60 page 14) remains forward-canon. Does Krieg deploy a second MH5 later in the arc at village-scale? Or does the village-scale capability remain unverified?
  • Will the Krieg crew rebel against Krieg after Gin’s gassing? Page 6 showed multiple crewmen vocally protest the order. The internal-discipline is visibly fragile. Forward-question for the next chapters: does the Krieg crew split, or does the terror-loyalty axiom hold?
  • How does Luffy now fight Krieg? The chapter ends with Luffy’s emotional-locked “KRIEG!!!!” and the implicit captain-versus-captain duel-frame. Krieg’s spiked-mace has swung (page 9); Krieg’s MH5 has fired (page 15); Krieg’s body-as-arsenal exposition has not yet been operationally activated against Luffy. The full Krieg-arsenal-versus-Luffy combat is forward-payload for Ch. 63+.
  • Will Sanji now decide to leave the Baratie with the Straw Hats? Sanji’s Ch. 59 enormous-debt-to-Zeff arc-question + the chapter-62 captain-choice-determines-death-or-life doctrine he articulates → the moral-condition for Sanji’s recruitment is now installed: Sanji has just witnessed what wrong-captain-choice does to a loyal officer. Forward-payoff: Sanji’s recruitment by Luffy as the right captain to whose service no loyalty-trap exists.
  • Will the Fullbody-as-Krieg-pursuer thread resurface? The page-7 flashback is the first canonical link between the Ch. 4 Marine character and the Baratie arc. Does Fullbody eventually appear and have an I-finally-caught-Krieg beat? Or is the flashback a closure-only retroactive narrative-loop?
  • Was Gin’s mask-handoff to Sanji a planned act or an impulse? Gin walked through the gas already masked (page 16); the mask-transfer (page 18) is post-hoc — Gin sought Sanji out and transferred the mask under self-knowledge of the consequence. The act is deliberate not reflexive. Forward-question: was Gin also planning to refuse-the-kill from the start, or did the refusal coalesce on the Krieg flagship deck (page 2-4)?
  • Does the Ritchie cover-story Kumate Tribe sub-arc become a recurring B-plot? The Part-1 framing implies a multi-part sub-arc. Forward-question.
