• Ch. 42 — First mention: Johnny names the Baratie as a destination near the Grand Line, frequented by Hawk-Eye Mihawk.
• Ch. 43 — First on-page appearance of Sanji (assistant chef, named via splash) and Zeff (head chef, named via splash). Sanji one-punch K.O.’s Marine Lt. Fullbody.
• Ch. 44 — Three Tough Cooks. Patty named (apron-tag), Carne identifiable, Gin walks in. Luffy declares Sanji his cook.
• Ch. 46 — An Uninvited Guest. Krieg’s wrecked galleon strikes the Baratie; the cooks unite as anti-Krieg chorus (Patty laughs in Krieg’s face page 14, delivers white-flag-duplicity exposition page 17, fork-punches Krieg page 16); Sanji silently inverts the consensus by feeding Krieg via Gin intermediary (pages 16-17). The crew is stress-tested by the first arc-villain visit; the public-vs-deeper-doctrine architecture is reaffirmed.
• Ch. 48 — Steer Clear. Sanji’s name on-page in-dialogue + Feed-the-Hungry doctrine articulated in cleanest form (pages 14-15: ‘As a cook, I consider it my duty to feed the hungry.’) + save-then-kill rule (page 16). The kitchen-line cooks (Patty, Carne, others) frame Sanji’s pro-feeding stance as ambition for Zeff’s chair — the false-motive misread (page 14). Zeff explodes (‘SHUT UP, YOU EGGPLANTS!!!’) and backs Sanji’s axiom — the master-then-disciple grammar reaffirmed. Cooks’ loyalty as cast-out-saved-by-Zeff articulated (page 15: ‘Chef Zeff is our savior! He took us in when no one else would!’ / ‘We’ve been cast out from everywhere else.’ / ‘You can’t have it! This ship’s all we’ve got in the world.’) — the savior-captain-of-the-rejected archetype at East Blue scale. Patty’s sceptical ‘Hmph. First you save ‘em, then you kill ‘em?’ (page 16) is the outsider-cannot-track-the-doctrine reaction. • Ch. 47 — The Don’s Offer. The crew is physically fractured: the cooking line draws guns on Sanji (page 6) to prevent him from feeding Krieg’s men; Sanji spreads his arms between the guns and the hungry (page 7) and declares the axiom “If a man is hungry, I feed him!!!” (page 8); Patty knocks Sanji unconscious (page 8); Patty fires the Meatball of Doom directly at Krieg (pages 9-10) with no effect; Krieg trivializes the cooks in two full pages (pages 14-15) with his integrated firearms. Zeff overrides the cooking line and brings the 100-portion food sack himself (page 18) — the head chef enacts Sanji’s axiom against the cooks’ enforcement. The crew’s doctrinal authority resolves to Zeff’s, not the cooks’. The crew’s Ferocious Fighting Cooks identity is stress-tested and found insufficient against a Grand-Line-tier opponent. Forward-tell: a Grand-Line-tier defender (Zeff, then Mihawk, then a grown Sanji) will be required.
• Ch. 49 — Storm. Patty reads the Mihawk-armada-wreck headline aloud (page 2: “KRIEG’S ARMADA WAS WRECKED BY ONE MAN!?”) — the crew’s news-prompt voice continues. Zeff identifies the attacker as Hawk-Eye (pages 2-3) by reputation and eye-description — the head chef has prior personal knowledge of Mihawk. Sanji’s on-page presence continues: pages 6-8, 12; first insult-trade with Zoro installed on first contact (page 6); cynical→operational-alarm tone pivot (page 7); cook-officer authority register (page 12: “Stand down, you cooks!!!”). Patty wields a pitchfork as combat tool (page 2), THONKs Usopp (page 7), and rallies the defense at the Krieg-attack pivot (page 12: “They’re coming! That’s their battle cry!” / “We must defend our restaurant!!!”). Patty’s personal Hawk-Eye grievance named on-page (page 5: “He murdered my crewmates!!”) — long-burn seed for Patty’s backstory.
• Ch. 52 — Witness/crowd role through the Mihawk-Zoro duel. Cook (Carne or Patty) identifies the arriving Krieg-reinforcement fleet as “the locusts” (page 19). Zeff verbally agrees to Sanji’s recruitment-bargain (“What? That’s a deal!” — page 19, panel 5).
• Ch. 53 — The Baratie’s multi-layer naval-combat-vessel architecture is revealed for the first time. The restaurant is not just staffed by fighting cooks; it is a fighting ship. Three operational systems are revealed in-chapter: (1) Mackerel Head I — a giant fish-headed ramming-bow with three eyes, side-fins, and a paddlewheel propulsion system (pages 10-14, 17); (2) paddlewheel propulsion via manual chef-cranking (page 12 interior-engine-room shot); (3) deployable fighting-deck that rises from the ocean depths to keep the restaurant from getting damaged (page 15); plus (4) a giant scythe defensive mechanism that intercepts mid-air projectiles (page 9 — fires on Luffy’s Gum-Gum Rocket, drops him into the sea). The vessel is two-layer: kitchen-and-dining on top, combat-systems below. The Baratie-as-disguise-vessel is the chapter’s structural mirror to Krieg’s planned-Baratie-as-disguise-vessel: the chapter installs the disguise-vessel-as-weapon doctrine bilaterally (works for both villains and protagonists). Patty and Carne pilot the Mackerel Head; Sanji functionally commands the combat-action; Zeff sends off the Straw Hats. • Ch. 54 — The Baratie’s exile fighting-cook recruitment principle is articulated on-page in cook-chorus (page 5): “FIGHTING IS OUR PROFESSION!! …HERE YOU CAN COOK AND FIGHT TO YOUR HEART’S CONTENT! …AFTER WANDERING FOR YEARS, WE FINALLY FOUND A HOME HERE! …BUT WE ALWAYS GOT FIRED FOR FIGHTING. …WE’VE BEEN COOKS FOR MORE’N 10 YEARS! WE WORKED IN 300 RESTAURANTS!” The Baratie is explicitly framed as a home for exile fighting-cooks — chefs fired everywhere else for the fight half of their identity. The cooks out-fight the Krieg-Pirates rank-and-file in the opening melee (pages 4-6). Patty and Carne are knocked unconscious off-page by Pearl’s “Pearl Surprise” (page 9). Sanji becomes the chapter’s cook-champion against Pearl, articulating two cook-doctrines (chef’s-knife-is-his-soul page 12; cook’s-hands-are-his-life page 15). • Ch. 55 — Jungle Blood. The Baratie catches fire (Pearl’s flame-eruption, page 4); Sanji wades into the fire-zone and engages Pearl (pages 8-17); Zeff performs his first on-page combat feat (page 14, wind-blast kick extinguishes the fire-wall). The cooks’ Red-Leg-Zeff reverence is operationally confirmed (page 15: ‘It’s a miracle!!! Red-Shoes Zeff is alive and kickin’!’). The crew’s Ferocious Fighting Cooks identity is stress-tested-at-officer-tier and confirmed: Sanji wins against a Krieg-officer, Zeff as backup tier. The Ch. 47 stress-test failure (Krieg trivialized the cooks) is counter-balanced — the cook crew can handle an officer-class Krieg-Pirate. • Ch. 56 — Sanji defeats Pearl on behalf of the cooks (page 14); Zeff is down (peg leg broken) but the cook-crew remains intact and chorus-reactive throughout. The chapter’s emotional pivot — what did Sanji take from chef — is delivered as a cooks-collective question (page 15). The All Blue is named on-page by Sanji in response (page 15-16): “Yes… The ‘All Blue’.” — the cooks’ question dialogically triggers the recruitment-MacGuffin reveal. The crew’s reaction-chorus role is load-bearing for the chapter’s emotional pivot.
• Ch. 59 — The Baratie’s fin/figurehead is destroyed on-page by Luffy’s mistargeted Gum-Gum Battle-Ax (pages 10-11). First structural damage to the restaurant in the arc. Patty, Carne, and the cook chorus function as the chapter’s recap-and-reaction layer (page 3: the cooks deliver the Zeff/Sanji backstory recap — “Chef ate his foot… so Sanji wouldn’t starve… he was paying chef back!!”). Zeff is held hostage by Krieg throughout the chapter (chains visible). Sanji declares his enormous debt in operational combat-dialogue (page 14): the cooks’ arc-long “why does Sanji stay” question is answered in their hearing.
