Summary

Chapter opens mid-combat with no preamble. Don Krieg swings his massive spiked-mace (the Ch. 60 page-16 silhouette tease) at Luffy off-page — WHRRRRR!! / “I’LL SMASH YOU TO A PULP!!!” (page 1). On the Baratie deck, the parallel combat is also live: Krieg-crew chants “PULVERIZE HIS SKULL, GIN!!” / “HA HA! THE COMMANDER’S FINALLY HIS OLD SELF AGAIN!!” as Gin (in silhouette, tonfa-club raised) advances on Sanji (“SANJI!!!”). The chapter is two duels running in parallel — Luffy-vs-Krieg on the Krieg flagship, Sanji-vs-Gin on the Baratie — cross-cut throughout.

The color spread (pages 2-3) interrupts the combat with a ONE PIECE logo and a pastoral tableau: Nami reading a book under a tree, Usopp aiming a slingshot-pole in a meadow with a distant cottage; right side, Luffy mid-tumble with Zoro behind him, a barrel of food and a squid/octopus construct. Krieg pivots: “Hey.” — WHOOM! — Luffy: “UMF!!” Krieg deploys his circular jolly-roger shield (page 9, SWUP): “Don’t get your hopes up.” Page 10 — the shield is shown in full: KA-CH… ANG!! — concentric metal disc with skull-and-crossbones center, clawed segments around the rim. Luffy bolts (SPLUMP!); Krieg flicks a trigger (FWIK!) — KA-BOOM!! Luffy: “YIKES!!”

Page 11 — the shield’s outer ring fires bullets: BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM. Krieg: “YOU’RE DEAD MEAT NOW!!!” Luffy dodges (WHOOSH SHOOSH); spike-stakes extend from the shield (“STAKES!!!”); Luffy “WAAH!” Page 12 — Luffy dives (FWISH!!), nearly falls off the ship’s edge into the ocean (“THE OCEAN!!” / FWUMP / OOF!!) before catching himself on the rail. Cooks gasp “ANCHOR BOY!!” — the Anchor wardrobe-tell (Ch. 1 shirt) fires on-page in dialogue. Page 13 — Luffy back on his feet: “You wanna fight!? You lousy jerk!!” Krieg slams his foot down (THUD! If only Sanji hadn’t taken that beating from the shield man!!” / Krieg-crew laugh: “HA HA HA HA HA BWAH HA HA HA HA… his bones are in shards!!” / “Kill him!” Quiet panel — Sanji (cigarette hanging, sweat, eye half-closed): “…small-fry scoundrel.” / “I’m in trouble, this guy’s tough!!!” Sanji to Gin (smirking through bruise): “Those skewered dumplings you’re swinging aren’t much good, are they?” Gin: ”…!! huff…” Gin swings (WHOOM!!): “Don’t squirm!!!
