The seed
Ch. 59 pages 15-16: Luffy grips Sanji by the chest and articulates the doctrine in prototype form: “Getting killed is no way to repay your debt!!! …so you could throw it away! He didn’t save your life… only a coward would do that!!!”
The payoff
Forward-payoff: every later Luffy reaction to attempted-martyrdom is a callback to this articulation. The Ch. 59 line is the prototype — Luffy’s survive-for-the-debt ethic in first-articulated form.
Why this matters
Luffy’s anti-self-sacrifice doctrine is the defining ethical axiom that distinguishes him from the pirate-honor / revenge / martyrdom codes that East Blue villains operate by. The doctrine’s later iterations (Marineford, Whole Cake, Enies Lobby, Wano) all trace back to Ch. 59 as the first articulation.
