Gin Order To Kill Sanji Loyalty Test

The seed
Ch. 62 page 3 —
Gin refuses the order :
“This one person, I cannot kill!!!”
Gin (kneeling on the Krieg flagship): “And I thank you. I respect your strength. And I don’t regret anything I’ve done in your service. I’m sorry, I would never betray you. … This one person, I cannot kill!!!” The Ch. 60 contract-installation (minimum-acknowledgment register) breaks 2 chapters later as an explicit refusal-while-affirming-loyalty . The grammar: debt-of-gratitude-as-narrowest-possible-exception. Krieg’s response is to disown Gin (page 6) and execute him by gas (page 15). The contract-break-via-death prediction is paid off in-chapter (page 18: mask-handoff; page 19: Gin dying). Status: confirmed .
Ch. 60 page 15 — Krieg’s direct order to Gin
“Gin! Do your duty and send that cook to hell!!” — Krieg orders Gin to kill the man (Sanji) who fed him in Ch. 44. The order is the first direct-test of Gin’s loyalty-split since Gin Loyalty Split (Ch. 45) opened the seed.
Ch. 60 page 16 — Gin’s minimum-acknowledgment response
Gin, small in the foreground beneath Krieg’s spiked-mace silhouette: “Understood, Don Krieg.” The wording is the minimum-acknowledgment register — no aye aye , no enthusiasm, no objection. Compare to the Krieg crew’s page-6 full-throated “Aye aye!!” (TA-TUMP!! ) — Gin’s compliance is structurally distinct from his crewmates’.
Ch. 60 page 16 — Gin’s apology to Sanji
Gin (sad expression, sweating): “Sorry, Sanji.” The fighter who is about to obey the order apologizes to the target in advance. The order is accepted in the captain-axis and refused in the moral-axis simultaneously.
Forward-payoff
Gin’s eventual refusal to deliver the killing blow (Ch. 67-68) and his self-sacrificial death by Krieg’s MH5 (the gas he refused to use on Sanji is the same gas his captain uses on him ). The chapter is the contract-installation ; the contract-break-via-death is the arc’s emotional payoff.
Ch. 61 page 17 — Gin REFUSES the direct order
“DON KRIEG!!! I CAN’T DO IT!!!! …KILL THIS MAN!!! I can’t…” The contract installed in Ch. 60 is broken within one chapter. The Ch. 45-48 loyalty-arc chain → Ch. 59 proxy-defiance → Ch. 60 minimum-acknowledgment → Ch. 61 direct-refusal . The contract-break-from-Gin’s-side is operational; the contract-break-from-Sanji’s-side and captain’s-retaliation are pending. (Captain’s-retaliation pays off in Ch. 62 with Krieg’s expulsion order and MH5 deployment.)
Ch. 67 pages 3-5 —
the order is refused via renunciation-of-the-captain
The Ch. 60 page-15 “Gin! Do your duty and send that cook to hell!!” contract is definitively broken from the Gin-side : Sanji is alive, Gin walks away, and Gin’s response to the order is renunciation-of-the-captain-who-issued-it rather than refusal-of-the-killing-blow . The contract-break is structurally larger than the contract — Gin doesn’t just refuse the order, he renounces the entire authority-relationship. Status paid-off.
