Summary
The Kuja Pirates sail home to Amazon Lily heavy with plunder, and the whole island turns out to welcome the returning “Snake Princess.” Boa Hancock — empress of the nation, captain of the Kuja, and one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea — is finally shown in full: ravishingly beautiful, worshipped by her people, and casually monstrous, smashing a clay statue the village children made of her and ordering “filthy” gifts thrown out. In her chamber the elder Grandma Nyon — revealed to be Gloriosa, a former Empress of Amazon Lily — begs Hancock to obey a summons from the central government and go to war, warning that without her Warlord title the island will be ruined now that outsiders can cross the once-protective Calm Belt. Hancock, “afraid,” refuses and hurls Nyon from the castle. As the village clears out for the Snake Princess’s sacred two-hour bath, an old Kuja recounts the legend of the Gorgon Sisters: the three warriors slew the Gorgon monster, whose dying curse left great stone-turning eyes carved into their backs, which is why they bathe alone. Meanwhile Luffy, stranded and hunting for a ship back to Sabaody Archipelago, slingshots himself into the tallest building to find someone “important,” crashes through the bath-house roof, and lands in Hancock’s bath — where he glimpses the mark on her back and says he has seen it before. Hancock, eyes wide with dread: “You saw it.”

- Boa Hancock fully revealed on-page (pp. 3-19): the Snake Princess is empress of Amazon Lily and captain of the Kuja Pirates. She is adored by her people (“Her beauty is without rival!!”, p. 3) but cruel and vain — she smashes a clay statue the village children made of her, calling it “rubbish,” and believes “everyone will forgive me… on a whim… because, yes… even if I ruin this nation… I’m beautiful” (pp. 5, 10). The gag: “she looks down on someone so much that she actually looks up” (p. 10).
- Hancock is one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. Nyon: “this nation… is protected by your title of Warlord!” — outsiders “don’t dare come to our island… because you’re a Warlord, despite your piratical activities” (p. 9). First on-page confirmation of Hancock’s Warlord seat .
- The central government has summoned Hancock to war. A government ship is anchored offshore with a summons; “they want me to go to war” (pp. 7-8). Nyon: “If you participate, the treaties will hold. You’re strong enough now that you won’t be killed in battle.” Hancock: ”…I’m afraid. But…” (p. 8).
- Grandma Nyon = Gloriosa, former Empress of Amazon Lily (p. 10). She “abandoned [her] people and went to the outer seas,” is branded a traitor, and now “live[s] alone on the outskirts of the village” (p. 11). Still “a warrior of Kuja” — she survives being thrown from the castle (p. 12).
- Calm Belt lore: “In the past, the Calm Belt was a powerful deterrent that protected us from outside enemies.” But “the people from central build ships using new technology that allows them to navigate these waters” — so Amazon Lily’s natural isolation is no longer enough (p. 9). - The Gorgon Sisters legend (pp. 14-15): Hancock, Sandersonia, and Marigold slew the Gorgon, “a monster that once lived in the central oceans”; the monster’s dying screams cursed the three warriors, carving “great eyes” into the flesh of their backs that turn anyone who sees them to stone. This is why the sisters never undress in public and the castle is cleared for two hours during the Snake Princess’s bath.
- Luffy is loose on Amazon Lily looking for a ship to reach Sabaody Archipelago (pp. 16-17); the Kuja are out hunting the “fierce monkey” that appeared from the jungle (p. 6).
