The payoff (dark inversion) — the same reveal weaponized as a slave auction
Why this matters
Oda restages the same full-figure “adored, rivalless Kuja beauty, flanked by a swooning crowd” panel three times: Hancock’s canonical entrance (Ch. 517 p3), her predecessor Shakuyaku’s Pirate-Island entrance (Ch. 1157 p14), and — two chapters on — Shakuyaku displayed as the God Valley auction’s grand prize (Ch. 1159 p16). The first two run the composition straight (streaming cape + footfall-SFX + adoring flanks) to silently stamp young Shakky as the same idol-empress archetype the Kuja lineage runs on (Shakuyaku → the Gloriosa/Grandma Nyon era → eventually Hancock). The third weaponizes that very composition: the identical lone-beauty + swoon-chorus layout, now staged as a slave auction where the “worshippers” are Celestial Dragons bidding to own her — the reveal-of-adoration flipped into a reveal-of-commodification. When a character is introduced in an already-iconic full-page pose (centered lone figure, flanking swoon-chorus), read it as Oda asserting their role — and watch for the same pose re-run inverted to expose what that adoration curdles into (here, the World Nobles’ claim on the “object of the world’s desire”).
