drifting sailboat, passing a Marine-flagged vessel ; a heart-sunglasses figure looks on.
The fateful passing of a Marine ship is the cover-arc’s pickup-point seed — forward-canon
the cover-arc resolves with Django being taken in by the Marines (Hina’s unit). Continues
Oda’s cover-arc grammar of following a defeated minor antagonist’s afterlife (cf. the Buggy
and Koby/Helmeppo cover-arcs). Cross-link the Django character/origin Foreshadowing notes —

Kaya is now a doctor’s apprentice
Ch. 134’s cover-splash continues the Django’s Dance Paradise serial with the caption:
‘DJANGO’S DANCE PARADISE, OUTSIDE ISSUE, REPORT: KAYA IS NOW A DOCTOR’S APPRENTICE AND
DOING FINE.’ Cover art: Kaya carrying a cross-marked doctor’s bag in a bright cobbled
village street, with Django in the background. First on-page report that Kaya is
training to become a doctor — a quiet payoff of her Syrup Village arc: the once-sickly
heiress, healed of her own grief-induced illness, chooses to spend her life healing others
(the I want to be a doctor Ch. 41 pre-load now confirmed). The cover-beat runs in
deliberate thematic parallel with the in-chapter introduction of doctors Dr. Kureha and

The caption — a literal countdown to identity-reveal — frames the cover-arc’s transition toward a forced-identification beat. Cover-splash retitles the serial Django’s Dance Heaven (was Dance Paradise ) and depicts Marines at the Leonhard’s outdoor cafe organizing a Django manhunt. A chunky bearded captain (presumably Eureka) flanked by two tulip-helmeted tutu-clad goons charges in. Continues the cover-arc’s vaudeville register and introduces the Tulip Pirates as the latest cover-side antagonist. Django’s Dance Heaven, Vol. 14: Calculating the outcome of the dance contest (serial sub-title shift)
Fourteenth Django cover-installment, but with a deliberate serial sub-title shift : previously Django’s Dance Paradise (e.g., Ch. 135 Vol. 8 and earlier), now Django’s Dance Heaven Mirror-Ball Island stage. Paradise → Heaven is the kind of small Oda framing-change that often telegraphs a phase-shift (contest-victory? promotion? death ?). (The Ch. 143 reader proposed a separate Foreshadowing/Django Dance Heaven Cover Story Serial Vol 14 note — folded into this canonical serial note rather than split off.)

Ch. 215 p. 8 —
Cover-to-main-story payoff continues: Django in active Marine combat-service
The ~34-installment Django cover-serial’s resolution extends into combat: Django stands on the deck of Hina’s blockade warship in a Marine cap, performing his hypnotist routine on the Straw Hat ship during the Black Spear Formation (“Today I’ll prove to you that I’m not a weirdo!! Look closely at this ring!! …I’ll sink you all!! I’m a lot stronger now… One…” ). Luffy fails to recognize the ex-pirate (“Hey, Mr. Hypnotist, aren’t you a pirate too?!” ). The defeated East-Blue antagonist the cover-serial kept alive and in motion is now a fully-operating Marine under Hina . Cross-link Django Fullbody Conscripted Into Hina Marine Unit (new).
Ch. 214 p. 4 —
Main-story payoff: Django is on-page as a Marine, “Django the Turncoat, Third Mate, Navy”
The ~34-installment Django cover-serial’s forward-canon resolution (Django joins the Marines under Captain Hina) lands in the main story. Django appears at the Nanohana blockade captioned “Django the Turncoat, Third Mate, Navy” under Captain Hina , paired with Fullbody. The cover-arc’s acquittal-by-drumming (Ch. 168 ) → main-story-Marine-induction (Ch. 214 ) arc is complete. The turncoat caption canonizes the Black-Cat → Marine defection that the cover-serial spent its entire run pre-loading.
Why this matters
Ch. 131’s cover-splash (p. 1) is Django’s Dance Paradise, Vol. 5: Getaway Dance — the
Django cover-serial continues, showing the defeated ex-Black-Cat-Pirates first-mate fleeing
in caped silhouette, chased by a distant crowd. Oda’s cover-arc grammar uses these deniable
side-comics to keep minor defeated villains alive and in motion off-page. Forward-canon the
Django cover-arc resolves with Django joining the Marines — a cover-story payoff that
re-enters the main continuity much later.
